Rekonstrukcija defektov prednjega dela ustnega dna s centralnim otočnim vezanim režnjem jezika = Reconstruction of anterior floor of the mouth defects with a central island pedicled tongue flap

Different reconstruction methods are used for the reparation of defects causedby the excision of large T2 and small T1 carcinoma in the anterior floorof the mouth. Reconstruction using a central ...pedicled island tongue flap is not a new method. The indications and technique of this method are described. A slight modification to the original technique has been made. The modification consists of a 90 degrees rotation of the pedicle before suturing the flap into the defect of the floor of the mouth. Our present experience consists of seven cases. Despite the small number of patients who were treatedwith this method at our clinic, the results so far have been good. The advantages of a central pedicled tongue flap are that surgery is easy to perform and that its results with respect to recovery of function and cosmeticeffects are good. In our opinion, this technique does not enjoy the popularity it deserves.
