  • Naše izkušnje pri zdravljenju bolnikov z aspirinsko intoleranco = Our experiences with the treatment of patients with aspirin intolerance
    Boršoš, Imre ; Podboj, Jernej
Introduction: Aspirin intolerance is a clearly-defined clinical syndrome with distinct clinical features. Clinically, the aspirin intolerance syndrome presents with rhinitis, nasal polyposis and ... asthma. Diagnosis is based on the history and clinical picture. Treatment is medical and surgical. Patients: Thestudy was based on the follow-up of patients treated from 1987 to 1999. There were 727 patients, 132 of whom had aspirin intolerance. All patients were treated using both drugs and surgery. Results: Of 595 patients with nasalpolyps and without aspirin intolerance, 79% were male and 21% female; of 132 with nasal polyps and aspirin intolerance, 21% were male and 79% female. In patients with AI, more recurrences (60%) were observed than in those without aspirin intolerance (32%). There were 1 major and 5 minor complications. Discussion: The importance of correct diagnosis, correct medical and surgical treatment and continuous co-operation between the doctorsand the patient are emphasised. Every patient must be treated individually with drugs and, if necessary, with surgery. Asthma must be treated as well.
