  • Poškodbe maksilofacialne regije = Injuries of the maxillofacial region
    Kansky, Andrej
Road traffic accidents, violent attacks, falls, injuries at work and sports injuries are the most common causes of maxillofacial trauma. The clinical picture includes the following signs: asymmetry ... of the face, soft tissue edema, bleeding from wounds, nose and mouth, hematoma. Disturbances of occlusion and mouth opening are common in mandibular as well as in maxillary fractures. Midfacial injuries may involve eye injuries, altered eye movements and anaesthesia or paresthesia of the face. Initial resuscitation includes airway and breathing control, management of haemorrhage and preventing of aspiration. Basic radiographic examination consists of the panoramic radiograph, occipitomental projection and computerised tomography. The therapyshould be provided in a well equipped hospital. Anatomic reposition andfixation of the fractures are the main goals of treatment. Better results are achieved by early treatment.
