  • Zdravljenje endobronhialnih tumorjev z elektrokavterjem = Treatment of endobronchial tumors with electrocautery

    Background. We present our initial experiences with endobronchial electrosurgery. Patients and methods. We have studied with unresectable intraluminal tumours. Fifteen patients (12 men, 3women, ... median age 62 years, range 44-77) with endobronchial tumours were treated with electrocautery. Theywere admitted because of symptoms, caused by tracheobronchial obstruction.All procedures were performed under local anaesthesia with lidocain. We used flexible or rigid bronchoscopeand electrosurgical unit with unipolar blunt cautery probes. Results. Successful improvement has been obtained in 73% (11/15) of our patients. No major complications were encountered. Twelve of our patients were additionally treated with radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy. Conclusions. Our analysis demonstratesthat unresectable exophytic tracheobronchial tumours or benign tumours could be successfully removed by endobronchial electrosurgery through flexible or rigidbronchoscope. The procedure is simple. Immediate relief of symptoms improves patients quality of life.
