    Isotopic investigation of carbon in water column, the sediment and the pore water of a eurotropic freshwater lake (Lake Bled) was performed. Measurements of the carbon isotopic composition provides ... an excellent way to study the carbon cycle and at the same time to gain knowledge of the processes involved in the decomposition of organic matter in the aquatic environment. It was found that the major contribution (31-80 %) of DIC is derived from methanogenesis which prevalently (approx. 2/3) proceeds via CO [sub] 2 reduction. The contribution of calcite dissolution is important only in Zaka Bay where the highest contribution was observed in spring (13 %).
