  • Study of conventional mould design for gate location and cooling channels
Devos, S. ; Cardon, Ludwig ; Drstvenšek, Igor
Injection moulding is a technique to shape melted plastic in the desired form. To become a good product there are a lot of parameters. In this paper we will discuss problems that can occur while ... manufacturing a product with injection moulding. One of the main problems we will discuss is the gate location of the product and the cooling of the mould. All these problems will be exanimate on a specific product. The product is the cover of an LPG tank of an car. It shows some design problems with the manufacturing cycle at the moment. Now some burned spots, warpage and flow lines are observed. When we examine the product it is noticed that the gate is positioned on a bad location. Actually, the gate location is located at a not symmetrical place. To avoid problems with the design it is suggested to put the location on a symmetrical position. To solve the burned spots and the warpage it is better to add some cooling. Once the calculated cooling is added and the correct gate location is chosen, we will do an analyse on the two different product. The results will show that with a good gate location and good cooling a lot of problems can be solved.
