  • Novosti v zdravljenju revmatodinega artritisa in vloga družinskega zdravnika = New therapies in rgeumatoid arthritis and position of the general practitioner
    Golja, Mojca, 1943-
The author describes rheumatoid arthritis, the inflammatory rheumatic disease in which the irreparable joint changes can appear and cause different degree of invalidity. The new and more efficient ... therapies of rheumatoid arthritis are described, with the special emphasis on the biological anticytokine agents. At present, most often used biological anticytokine drugs are tumour necrosis factor alpha blocking agents, infliximab and etanercept. Anticytokinedrugs have many advantages in comparison to the currently used immunomodulating drugs. They are more selective, more effective and can prevent the disease progression and the sequences of rheumatic inflammation. Of the newer drugs, although not anticytokine one, leflunomide is mentioned. It acts differently from the currently used therapies. It is emphasised that biological anticytokine drugs must be used very selectively, since they are much more expensive than the currently used therapeutic modalities. The article describes the role of general practitioner, who has to be familiar with the efficacy, the mode of action, advantages and possible side effects ofthe new agents.
