    The aim of the study was to investigate the expression of multidrug resistance(MDR) associated proteins (P-glycoprotein, MRP, LRP and DNA topoisomerase II-alpha) and the level of functional dye ... efflux, as well as theapoptosis in the primary and dislocated tumor cells of the small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients using flow cytometry. In addition, clinical response tothe therapy with cisplatin and etoposide will be studied, as well as the prognostic value of MDR markers. Increased multidrug resistance is expected tobe predictive of lower response rate. The SCLC patients with a high responseat the inititation of treatment are expected to show low and equally distributed expression of MDR markers. However, as a short-term SCLC sensitivity very often results in relapse, a considerably increased expressionof P-gp and MRP is to be anticipated, along with changes in the dye efflux and expression of the topoisomerase II-alpha.
