  • Presaditev kostnega mozga pri otrocih v Sloveniji = Bone marrow transplantation in children in Slovenia
    Jazbec, Janez, 1962-
The first bone marrow transplantation in a Slovenian child was performed in 1989. In the registry of the Unit for oncology and haematology of the Paediatric clinic in Ljubljana we found 32 children, ... who had undergone bone marrow transplantation until July 2002. 17 transplantations were performed at the Paediatric clinic and 15 children were transplanted elsewhere. In 16 cases(50 %), the donor was a HLA-matched relative, in 10 cases transplants were autologous, 4 cases were transplants of cells of a matched unrelated donor and two haplodentical transplantations were performed. The most common cause for transplant was acute leukaemia in 15 cases (46 %) (8 cases of lymphoblastic and 7 cases of myeloblastic), followed by aplastic anaemia in 5 cases (15 %), solid tumours in five cases, lymphoma in 4 cases, two cases of metabolic diseases and a patient with juvenile myelomonocytic leukaemia. The overall two-year survival after transplantation is 34 %. It is expected that the number of bone marrow transplants performed annually in our centre will increase slightly due to matched unrelated transplants.
