    Topical corticosteroids are frequently used in dermatology for the treatment of eczematoid, erythematosquamous and some bullous dermatoses. The choice of the topical corticosteroids depends on ... several factors like the type of dermatosis and its localisation, spreadness as well as the age of the treated patient. We recommend creams for acute diseases and ointments for chronical ones. Lotions are preferred for the scalp treatment. Systemic corticosteroid treatment for dermatologic diseases in childhood is limited to some rare autoimmune bullous diseases and large hemangiomas and must be individually adjusted. While treating the children with topical corticosteroids we should be aware of the serious adverse effects.
