    The causes of obstructive nephropathy in early infancy are congenital malformations of the urinary tract that lead to obstruction of urine flow at various levels of the urinary tract. Infants with ... congenital urethral valves have the least favourable prognosis. They develop chronic renal failure in early childhood and many have micturition disturbances and irreparable urinaryincontinence. In this article the clinical characteristics of congenital posterior urethral valves, diagnostic protocol and treatment options are described. Renal function in these children in later years is largely dependent on early recognition and effective treatment in the first days of life.
