  • Korelacija med sagitalnimi nepravilnostmi sprednjega in zadnjega predela zobnega loka = Correlation between malocclusions in the intercanine and transcanine sectors in the sagittal plane
    Zupančič, Sanja ...
Background: Research has shown that the degree of overjet in class III malocclusions is not always a reliable measure of jaw relations in the sagittal plane. The aim of our study was to assess the ... correlation between malocclusions in the intercanine and transcanine sectors in the sagittal plane. Subjects and methods: We examined 650 randomly chosen patients who had been referred for treatment to the Orthodontic Unit of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana. Eighty-six patients met our selection criteria (permanent dentition, no aplasia, no missing teeth, no supernumerary teeth, no previous orthodontic treatment) and were included in the study. Among them, 30 had Class I malocclusion, 30 Class II malocclusion and 26 Class III malocclusion. The degree of overjet and the distance between the cusp of the upper first premolar and the embrasure between the lower premolars (cusp-embrasure distance) were measured on study casts. Mean values, standard deviations and correlations between the parameters were calculated. Results: A statistically significant correlation (p < 0.01) was found between the degree of overjet andthe cusp-embrasure distance, as well as between the cuspembrasure distanceson the left and right sides. Conclusions: We conclude that an increase in overjet leads to an increase in the cusp-embrasure distances and vice versa.
