  • Stanje obzobnih tkiv pri ženskah z motnjami v reprodukciji = Periodontal status in women with disorders of reproduction
    Salamun Čok, Karmen ...
Background: The results of contemporary studies suggest an association betweeninflammatory periodontal disease and adverse pregnancy outcome. The aimof our study was to investigate the periodontal ... status of women with a history of repeated spontaneous abortion. Methods: We enrolled 28 women who had had three spontaneous miscarriages in the past and compared their periodontal status with that of 25 randomly selected women of comparable age. In both groups, the IL 1 genotype status was determined in samples of buccal epithelial cells. Results: The test subjects had significantly more sites thatbled on probing than the control subjects (21.4% vs 8.9%, p=0.001). Also the surface area of the active periodontal wound was greater in the test group, but the difference was not statistically significant (137.6 mm2 vs 82.4mm2, p=0.067). The composite IL-1 genotype was present in 60.7% of women in the test group and in 44% of those in the control group, the difference being statistically insignificant (p=0.347). Conclusions: The results of our study do not provide conclusive evidence that the periodontal status and IL-1 genotype can be responsible for spontaneous abortion, but they suggest a correlation between poor periodontal status and increased frequency of adversepregnancy outcomes.
