  • Attitudes of Slovenian citizens towards European Union 2004-2013
    Haček, Miro ; Kukovič, Simona
The Republic of Slovenia has - already at the time of promulgation of the independence - expressed the willingness and aim to become a full member of the European Union (EU). The official ... negotiations for the entry launched in March 1998 and in May 2004 Slovenia became a full member of the EU. Since then, Slovenia is represented in all EU institutions and it is involved in the decision making process within those institutions. EU law became part of the national legislation especially in areas where Slovenia transferred its sovereign rights to the EU. In the paper the authors put an emphasis on the attitudes of the Slovenian citizens towards the European Union and its institutions from the accession in 2004 until today; authors conclude that citizens' positive attitudes towards the integration have dropped signifi cantly since the accession in 2004, and drops are especially visible in the last few years when Slovenian and also Union are facing not only economic, but also political crisis.
