    This review essay on Randall Curren's Aristotle on the Necessity of Public Education explores a number of issues related to the book's central arguments. It addresses, first, the nature of the ... fundamental ethic which Curren attributes to Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, and the relationship between that ethic and a state's educational responsibilities. It goes on to examine the relationships between law and education explored in the book, and argues that although the book accomplishes a great deal, Curren's argument from the foundations of corrective justice falls just short of establishing a universal fundamental right to education.
