Highlights • Malformation of the vermis is a heritable and recessive trait. • Inbred mice exhibit variation in the pattern of cerebellar folia. • Malformation of the vermis is unrelated to folia ...patterning.
Optical inspection of 1191 silicon micro-strip sensors was performed using a custom made optical inspection setup, employing a machine-learning based approach for the defect analysis and subsequent ...quality assurance. Furthermore, metrological control of the sensor’s surface was performed. In this manuscript, we present the analysis of various sensor surface defects. Among these are implant breaks, p-stop breaks, aluminium strip opens, aluminium strip shorts, surface scratches, double metallization layer defects, passivation layer defects, bias resistor defects as well as dust particle identification. The defect detection was done using the application of Convolutional Deep Neural Networks (CDNNs). From this, defective strips and defect clusters were identified, as well as a 2D map of the defects using their geometrical positions on the sensor was performed. Based on the total number of defects found on the sensor’s surface, a method for the estimation of sensor’s overall quality grade and quality score was proposed.
Olive oil phenols are potent antioxidants in vitro. If this were to be also demonstrated in vivo, it would help to explain the beneficial effects of this typical ingredient of the Mediterranean diet. ...This study was designed to determine the presence in lipoprotein fractions of two phenolic compounds peculiar to extra virgin olive oil, namely tyrosol and OH-tyrosol, and whether their absorption induces an antioxidant effect in vivo.
Two trials were performed. In the first (Long-term), 14 healthy volunteers followed two diets, each for one month. The only difference between the diets was that the first supplied 50 g of extra virgin olive oil per day, where-as the second one supplied 50 g of refined olive oil with no simple phenols, as demonstrated by GC-MS analysis. There were no changes in LDL oxidizability and tyrosol and OH-tyrosol were not recovered in lipoproteins and plasma from fasting samples drawn at the end of each diet period. In the second study (Postprandial), eight healthy volunteers received an oral fat load consisting of 100 g of extra virgin olive oil. Blood was drawn at times 0', 30', 60', 120', 240', 360', and major plasma lipoprotein classes were separated. The concentration of tyrosol, OH-tyrosol and vitamin E was determined in lipoprotein fractions. Plasma antioxidant capacity was measured by a crocin-bleaching test and expressed as mM Trolox C equivalents. Tyrosol and OH-tyrosol were recovered in all lipoprotein fractions, except VLDL, with concentrations peaking between 60' and 120'. However, a very high variability in tyrosol and OH-tyrosol absorption was observed among subjects. Vitamin E content of LDL and HDL did not vary significantly throughout the study. Plasma antioxidant capacity increased significantly at time 120' (baseline 0.96 mM Trolox; 120' 1.19 mM Trolox; p = 0.02), and then returned almost to baseline values after 360' (1.1 mM Trolox).
These findings suggest that phenolic compounds in olive oil are absorbed from the intestine, though not through a pathway dependent on chylomicron formation, and may exert a significant antioxidant effect in vivo, probably in the postprandial phase.
The first measurement of the dielectron continuum at RHIC energies was performed by the PHENIX experiment for Au+Au collisions at =200 GeV. Mass spectra for different centralities are presented and ...compared with the expectations from hadron decays.

The operation and performance of the online ring recognition hardware which is a component of the second level trigger of the HADES detector is described. Its goal is to identify Cherenkov rings from ...electrons traversing a hadron blind RICH. This information is used in the second level trigger to select electron/positron pairs within a given invariant mass range.
The ring recognition hardware has been operated in several commissioning beamtimes. The obtained event rates are in accordance with expectations and the full system performance. For C+C collisions an event reduction factor higher than 15 can be achieved using only conditions on the online ring recognition. Higher reduction factors are reached using the full second level trigger functionality.
The physics goal of the strong interaction program of the NA61/SHINE experiment at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is to study the phase diagram of hadronic matter by a scan of particle ...production in collisions of nuclei with various sizes at a set of energies covering the SPS energy range. This paper presents differential inclusive spectra of transverse momentum, transverse mass and rapidity of π- mesons produced in central40Ar+45Sc collisions at beam momenta of 13A, 19A, 30A, 40A, 75A and 150AGeV/c. Energy and system size dependence of parameters of these distributions – mean transverse mass, the inverse slope parameter of transverse mass spectra, width of the rapidity distribution and mean multiplicity – are presented and discussed. Furthermore, the dependence of the ratio of the mean number of produced pions to the mean number of wounded nucleons on the collision energy was derived. The results are compared to predictions of several models.
