Background and objectiveCritical thinking is a crucial skill in nursing that nursing students should apply in their work environment. This study in Iran aimed to evaluate factors associated with nursing students' critical thinking ability.Study methodFollowing the STROBE guidelines, an analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in Ardabil province, northwest Iran. The study collected data through convenience sampling at nursing schools in Ardabil province, with a sample of 246 nursing students participating. The data collected from a demographic information form and the Persian version of the Nursing Critical Thinking in Clinical Practice Questionnaire were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0 software.ResultsThe study found that the overall mean score of clinical critical thinking among nursing students was 313.87 ± 25.80 (range = 109–436). Based on this score, most students reported low (63%) or moderate (37%) clinical critical thinking levels. The highest and lowest mean scores between dimensions were related to the intellectual and cognitive (127.99 ± 13.30) and technical (17.25 ± 3.43), respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that semester and college were predictors of clinical critical thinking among nursing students. The selected predictors accounted for 19.3% of the total variance in clinical critical thinking scores (F = 9.396, p < 0.001).ConclusionThe study results showed that nursing students could have performed better in critical thinking ability. The study suggests that nursing education programs should prioritize teaching critical thinking skills in clinical settings as it is an essential subject in nursing education. With significant changes in nursing clinical environments, enhancing clinical critical thinking can improve nursing student performance clinically. Therefore, one of the crucial learning objectives in a clinical nursing course is to develop clinical critical thinking skills for nursing students.
This study aimed to investigate the association between different types of dietary fats with ischemic heart disease (IHD).
This case-control study was conducted on 443 cases and 453 controls aged ...40-80 years in Tehran, Iran. The semi-quantitative 237-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was used to assess the amount of food intake. Nutritionist IV was applied to test the amount of consumption of dietary fats.
The case group had a lower intake of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (11.36 ± 12.58 vs. 14.19 ± 19.57, P = 0.01) than the control group. A negative association was found between IHD and DHA (OR 0.98, CI 95% 0.97-0.99, P = 0.01). No significant association was observed between IHD with the intake of cholesterol, trans fatty acids (TFA), saturated fatty acids (SFA), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), eicosatetraenoic acid (EPA), and α-Linolenic acid (ALA).
It was found that DHA may reduce the risk of IHD, whereas there was no significant association between other types of dietary fats with the odds of IHD. If the results of this study are confirmed in future research, a higher intake of DHA in diet can be recommended as a strategy to prevent IHD events.

In the current randomized, clinical trial, a total of 120 patients with peptic ulcers who failed to respond to treatment were enrolled. In the OLA group, a regimen of omeprazole 40 mg/day, levofloxacin 1 g/day, and amoxicillin 2 g/ day was prescribed; however, a regimen of omeprazole 40 mg/day, bismuth sub-citrate 480 mg/day, furazolidone 400 mg/day, and amoxicillin 2 g/day was administered to the OFAB group. Both groups were treated for 2 weeks, and 6 weeks after the treatment, the urea breath test (UBT) was performed in the subjects. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS Version 18. At the end, 58 patients in group OLA and 57 patients in the OFAB group were analyzed.
According to the results of the current study, 96.7% of the subjects in the OLA and 95% in the OFAB groups completed the treatment course and the eradication rates were 86.7% and 78.3% in the OLA and OFAB groups, respectively (P=0.23). Treatment side effects were observed in 51.7% and 11.7% of the subjects in the OLA and OFAB groups, respectively (P<0.01).
Both regimens were applicable as the second-line therapy due to insignificant difference between the results of the 2 groups; however, OLA regimen was superior to OFAB, due to lower side effects.
