The matamatas (Chelus fimbriata and the recently described Chelus orinocensis) are the largest species in the family Chelidae, easily identified by their distinct morphological characteristics. The ...matamatas have a wide distribution in South America, occurring in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, French Guiana, Peru, and Venezuela, as well as Trinidad and Tobago. However, there are many gaps in the knowledge of its distribution. The objective of this study was to present new records of occurrence for the C. fimbriata species complex and describe the area of distribution. We compiled data from published papers, databases in museums and other scientific collections, and research institutes and conservation organizations. From these data we mapped the species distribution, considering 3 types of river drainages based on water color in the Amazon Basin. We added 182 new records in Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, and Peru, demonstrating that the C. fimbriata species complex has a wide distribution, totaling 6,907,551 km2 across all 3 river types. Most records were concentrated in areas lower than 200 m above sea level.
Abstract This study presents a survey of small-stream fish species from the Purus-Madeira interfluve, collected in four streams near Humaitá on the highway BR-319. The results reveal a rich and ...diversified ichthyofauna with 3016 collected individuals distributed in 84 species, six orders, 25 families, and 60 genera. Of all the specimens collected, the Characiformes was the most representative, with eight families, 26 genera, and 42 species, followed Siluriformes, with nine families, 20 genera, and 23 species. In terms of families, Characidae had the highest number of species (25), followed by Loricariidae (9), and Cichlidae (8). Among the 95 captured species,s 11 are the first records for the region, evidencing a high diversity in these environments. Of the 84 species recorded in this study, 15 have not been assessed by the IUCN, while the remaining 62 include 23 listed as Least Concern (LC), three as data deficient (DD), and one as Near Threatened (NT). The southeastern Amazon region still has few fish surveys, especially in the region comprising the Purus-Madeira Interfluve, which highlights the importance of surveys to fill gaps and understand the biodiversity distribution patterns in the region.
Resumo Este estudo apresenta um levantamento das espécies de peixes de pequenos riachos do interflúvio Purus-Madeira, coletadas em quatro riachos perto de Huimaitá na rodovia BR-319. Os resultados revelam uma ictiofauna rica e diversificada com 3016 indivíduos distribuídos em 84 espécies, seis ordens, 25 famílias e 60 gêneros. De todos os espécimes coletados, Characiformes foi a mais representativa, com oito famílias, 26 gêneros e 42 espécies, seguida da Siluriformes, com 9 famílias, 20 gêneros e 23 espécies. Em termos de famílias, Characidae apresentou o maior número de espécies (25), seguida de Loricariidae (9) e Cichlidae (8). Dentre as espécies capturadas, do total de 84 espécies, 11 são o primeiro registro da região, evidenciando uma alta diversidade nesses ambientes. Das 84 espécies registradas neste trabalho, 15 não foram avaliadas pela IUCN, 63 listadas como Menos Preocupante (LC), quatro como Deficientes em Dados (DD) e uma como Quase Ameaçada (NT). A região sudoeste da Amazônia ainda conta com poucos levantamentos de peixes, principalmente na região que compreende o Interflúvio Purus-Madeira, por isso é importante realizar levantamentos para preencher lacunas de coletas e compreender padrões de distribuição da biodiversidade da região.
Foi estudada a fauna de parasitos de 45 Serrasalmus rhombeus (Linnaeus, 1776) coletados na estaçãode seca em seis lagos de várzea do rio Solimões. Aprevalência foi 73,3%, a intensidade média 20,5 e ...aabundância média de 15 crustáceos por peixe. Três espécies de crustáceos ocorreram parasitando S. rhombeus. Duas de Copepoda parasitando os filamentos branquiais, Ergasilus yumaricus Malta, 1995 e Myracetyma piraya Malta & Varella, 1993 e uma de Branchiura parasitando a nadadeira peitoral e a cavidade branquial, Argulus chicomendesi Malta & Varella, 2000. Ergasilus yumaricus foi a espécie dominante (92,3%) e a única que apresentou diferenças significativas em suas abundâncias entre os seis lagos amostrados. Os peixes do lago Baixio apresentaram a maior média de abundância (H=11.2986; p= 0,04). Houve correlação positiva entre a abundância e o comprimento total de S. rhombeus. Não houve correlação entre o número de parasitas e o sexo de S. rhombeus.

The parasites fauna of 45 Serrasalmus rhombeus colleted in dry season from six;
floodplain lakes of the Solimões River, in December of 2007, were studied. Seventeen;
were males and 28 females and 44 (97.7%) of fish were parasitized. A total of 2017;
parasites were collected, 17 species of Monogenoidea: Amphithecium diclonophallum;;
A. falcatum; A. muricatum; Anacanthorus amazonicus; A. jegui; A. scapanus; A.;
sciponophalus; A. serrasalmi; Anacanthorus sp.1, Anacanthorus sp.2, Anacanthorus;
sp.3, Anacanthorus sp.4, Anacanthorus sp.5. Notothecium cyphophalum; Notothecium;
sp.1; Notozothecium aegidatum; N. teinodendrum. Two species of Digenea,;
Clinostomum sp. e metacercariae. One species of Nematoda, Procamallanus (S);
inopinatus. Two species of Copepoda, Ergasilus yumaricus e Myracetyma piraya and;
one of Branchiura, Argulus chicomendesi. The parasites were most abundant.;
Procamallanus (S) inopinatus, Ergasilus yumaricus and A. chicomendesi are new;
records of occurrence in S. rhombeus. Thirty-five S. rhombeus were infected with cysts;
of metacercariae of digenetic in the skin. Fish that had the highest numbers of parasites;
were the Campina and Ananá lakes. The prevalence of fish from all lakes studied was;
100%, except in Lake Maraca which was 90%. The number of parasites in the males of;
S. rhombeus was higher than in females. Larger fish had higher number of parasites.

com larvas de digenéticos encistadas na pele. Os peixes que apresentaram os índices;
parasitários mais elevados foram dos lagos Campina e Anana. Os machos de S.;
rhombeus estavam mais parasitados que as fêmeas. Os peixes maiores apresentaram;
maiores quantidades de parasitos.
