The Universe is shaped as a web-like structure, formed by clusters, filaments, and walls that leave large low number-density volumes in between named voids. Galaxies in voids have been found to be of ...a later type, bluer, less massive, and to have a slower evolution than galaxies in denser environments (filaments and walls). However, the effect of the void environment on their stellar population properties is still unclear. We aim to address this question using 118 optical integral field unit datacubes from the Calar Alto Void Integral-field Treasury surveY (CAVITY), observed with the PMAS/PPaK spectrograph at the 3.5 m telescope at the Calar Alto Observatory (Almería, Spain). We fitted their spectra from 3750 Å to 7000 Å with the non-parametric full spectral fitting code STARLIGHT to estimate their stellar population properties: stellar mass, stellar mass surface density, age, star formation rate (SFR), and specific star formation rate (sSFR). We analysed the results through the global properties, assessing the behaviour of the whole galaxy, and the spatially resolved information, by obtaining the radial profiles from the 2D maps up to the 2 half-light radius of each stellar population property. The results were examined with respect to their morphological type and stellar mass. Then, we compared them with a control sample of galaxies in filaments and walls, selected from the CALIFA survey and analysed following the same procedure. To make a fair comparison between the samples, we selected a twin filament galaxy for each void galaxy of the same morphological type and closest stellar mass, to match the void galaxy sample as much as possible in morphology and mass. Key findings from our global and spatially resolved analysis include void galaxies having a slightly higher half-light radius (HLR), lower stellar mass surface density, and younger ages across all morphological types, and slightly elevated SFR and sSFR (only significant enough for Sas). Many of these differences appear in the outer parts of spiral galaxies (HLR > 1), where discs are younger and exhibit a higher sSFR compared to galaxies in filaments and walls, indicative of less evolved discs. This trend is also found for early-type spirals, suggesting a slower transition from star-forming to quiescent states in voids. Our analysis indicates that void galaxies, influenced by their surroundings, undergo a more gradual evolution, especially in their outer regions, with a more pronounced effect for low-mass galaxies. We find that below a certain mass threshold, environmental processes play a more influential role in galactic evolution.
Abstract
Background
The Clinical Trial of Sarilumab in Adults With COVID-19 (SARICOR) showed that patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia and increased levels of interleukin ...(IL)-6 might benefit from blockade of the IL-6 pathway. However, the benefit from this intervention might not be uniform. In this subanalysis, we sought to determine if other immunoactivation markers, besides IL-6, could identify which subgroup of patients benefit most from this intervention.
Methods
The SARICOR trial was a phase II, open-label, multicenter, controlled trial (July 2020–March 2021) in which patients were randomized to receive usual care (UC; control group), UC plus a single dose of sarilumab 200 mg (sarilumab-200 group), or UC plus a single dose of sarilumab 400 mg (sarilumab-400 group). Patients who had baseline serum samples for cytokine determination (IL-8, IL-10, monocyte chemoattractant protein–1, interferon-inducible protein IP-10) were included in this secondary analysis. Progression to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) according to cytokine levels and treatment received was evaluated.
Results
One hundred one (88%) of 115 patients enrolled in the SARICOR trial had serum samples (control group: n = 33; sarilumab-200: n = 33; sarilumab-400: n = 35). Among all evaluated biomarkers, IP-10 showed the strongest association with treatment outcome. Patients with IP-10 ≥2500 pg/mL treated with sarilumab-400 had a lower probability of progression (13%) compared with the control group (58%; hazard ratio, 0.19; 95% CI, 0.04–0.90; P = .04). Conversely, patients with IP-10 <2500 pg/mL did not show these differences.
Conclusions
IP-10 may predict progression to ARDS in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and IL-6 levels >40 pg/mL. Importantly, IP-10 value <2500 pg/mL might discriminate those individuals who might not benefit from sarilumab therapy among those with high IL-6 levels.

Objective: To conduct a proof-of-concept study of the detection of two synthetic models of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) using polarimetric imaging. Methods: Two ...SARS-CoV-2 models were prepared as engineered lentiviruses pseudotyped with the G protein of the vesicular stomatitis virus, and with the characteristic Spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. Samples were preparations in two biofluids (saline solution and artificial saliva), in four concentrations, and deposited as 5-{\mu}L droplets on a supporting plate. The angles of maximal degree of linear polarization (DLP) of light diffusely scattered from dry residues were determined using Mueller polarimetry of 87 samples at 405 nm and 514 nm. A polarimetric camera was used for simultaneous imaging of several samples under 380-420 nm illumination at angles similar to those of maximal DLP. A per-pixel image analysis included quantification and combination of polarization feature descriptors in other 475 samples. Results: The angles (from sample surface) of maximal DLP were 3 degrees for 405 nm and 6 degrees for 514 nm. Similar viral particles that differ only in the characteristic spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2, their corresponding negative controls, fluids, and the sample holder were discerned from polarimetric image analysis at 10-degree and 15-degree configurations. Conclusion: Polarimetric imaging in the visible spectrum has the potential for non-contact, reagent-free detection of viruses in multiple dry fluid residues simultaneously. Further analysis including real SARS-CoV-2 in human samples -- particularly, fresh saliva -- are required. Significance: Polarimetric imaging under visible light could contribute to fast, cost-effective screening of SARS-CoV-2 and other pathogens.
Introducción: El objetivo de este escrito es dar a conocer un taller de creación cinematográfica para personas con Trastorno Mental Grave (TMG) llevado a cabo en una unidad de rehabilitación de salud ...mental, basado en el modelo de recuperación y coordinado por enfermería de salud mental y un trabajador social.
Desarrollo: El taller se basa en la creación cinematográfica y la improvisación teatral. El proceso creativo parte de las ideas aportadas por el grupo relacionadas con situaciones variadas de carácter cómico habitualmente. Sobre esas ideas se hacen improvisaciones, que se graban y visualizan. Después se escogen aquellas ideas de mayor potencial y se definen unos guiones orientativos sobre los que seguir improvisando y grabando hasta configurar un corto.
Conclusiones: Poner en marcha grupos terapéuticos no convencionales según el modelo de recuperación, puede obtener mejoras psicosociales en usuarios con TMG (creatividad, comunicación, autoestima, habilidades sociales, por ejemplo) y sirve como fuente de motivación profesional, sin suponer recursos costosos.
The objective of this study was to define the epidemiological pattern of meningococcal disease in the autonomous region of Valencia, Spain, and the impact of a mass immunization campaign against ...serogroup C meningococcus. Data were obtained from a prospective surveillance program for invasive bacterial diseases in children < 15 y of age that began in the Valencia region on 1 December, 1995. During the period 1996?98, 213 cases of meningococcal disease were detected, representing an annual incidence of 11.3/100,000 children < 15 y. Serogroup C accounted for 31% and 38.5% of cases in 1996 and 1997, respectively (annual incidences of 2.9 and 5.4 cases/100,000 children < 15 y). An immunization campaign with the meningococcal C polysaccharide vaccine, which included all persons between 18 months and 19 y of age, began in late 1997 (vaccination coverage of 86%). In 1998, the annual incidence of meningococcal C disease fell to 1.4 cases per 100,000 children < 15 y of age. These results mirror the increase in the reported incidence of serogroup C meningococcal disease in Spain in the 1990s, a trend that was reversed after the introduction of the mass vaccination campaign. Meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine seems to be an effective public health tool for the management of this serious communicable disease.
