The ...Dual-Directional-Backlight using a double-sided prism sheet can change the direction of light by switching the LED light sources. The OCB panel using Feed-Forward Drive can realize frame rate of 120 Hz. As a result, the Scan-backlight Stereoscopic display works at its original resolving power, and produces flicker-free stereoscopic images. This auto- stereoscopic display can resolved the problems of the double images and the pseudoscopic images in case of watching at oblique angles.

Two silicon strip detectors, the Trigger Tracker(TT) and the Inner Tracker(IT) will be constructed for the LHCb experiment. Transverse momentum information extracted from the TT will be used in the ...Level 1 trigger. The IT is part of the main tracking system behind the magnet. Both silicon detectors will be read out using a custom-developed chip by the ASIC lab in Heidelberg. The signal-over-noise behavior and performance of various geometrical designs of the silicon sensors, in conjunction with the Beetle read-out chip, have been extensively studied in test beam experiments. Results from those experiments are presented, and have been used in the final choice of sensor geometry.

Deposits similar to corpora amylacea were observed by electron microscopy and light microscopy within thin myelinated axons in the spinal gray matter in various diseases. By electron microscopy the ...deposits consisted of randomly interlacing short linear structures of various thickness which were different from tangles of neurofilaments. Sometimes they contained dense granules and electron-dense floccules. Though their incidence was relatively high in some cases of degenerative or metabolic disease of the central nervous system, they were not specific to any disease but seemed to be related to aging, indicating a peculiar aspect of chronic degeneration of the axons.
The CRISPR-Cas system is a prokaryotic host defense system against genetic elements. The Type III-B CRISPR-Cas system of the bacterium Thermus thermophilus, the TtCmr complex, is composed of six ...different protein subunits (Cmr1-6) and one crRNA with a stoichiometry of Cmr112131445361:crRNA1. The TtCmr complex copurifies with crRNA species of 40 and 46 nt, originating from a distinct subset of CRISPR loci and spacers. The TtCmr complex cleaves the target RNA at multiple sites with 6 nt intervals via a 5′ ruler mechanism. Electron microscopy revealed that the structure of TtCmr resembles a “sea worm” and is composed of a Cmr2-3 heterodimer “tail,” a helical backbone of Cmr4 subunits capped by Cmr5 subunits, and a curled “head” containing Cmr1 and Cmr6. Despite having a backbone of only four Cmr4 subunits and being both longer and narrower, the overall architecture of TtCmr resembles that of Type I Cascade complexes.

The success of deep brain stimulation (DBS) depends heavily on surgical accuracy, and brain shift is recognized as a significant factor influencing accuracy. We investigated the factors associated ...with surgical accuracy and showed the effectiveness of a dural sealant system for preventing brain shift in 32 consecutive cases receiving DBS. Thirty-two patients receiving DBS between March 2014 and May 2015 were included in this study. We employed conventional burr hole techniques for the first 18 cases (Group I) and a dural sealant system (DuraSeal) for the subsequent 14 cases (Group II). We measured gaps between the actual positions of electrodes and the predetermined target positions. We then retrospectively evaluated the factors involved in surgical accuracy. The average gap between an electrode’s actual and target positions was 1.55 ± 0.83 mm in all cases. Postoperative subdural air volume e, the only factor associated with surgical accuracy (r = 0.536, P < 0.0001), was significantly smaller in Group II (Group I: 43.9 ± 27.7, Group II: 12.1 ± 12.5 ml, P = 0.0006). The average electrode position gap was also significantly smaller in Group II (Group I: 1.77 ± 0.91, Group II: 1.27 ± 0.59 mm, P = 0.035). Use of a dural sealant system could significantly reduce intracranial air volume, which should improve surgical accuracy.
