Maritime transportation systems (MTS) based on software-defined networks (SDN) offer reliability, efficiency, and flexibility in network connection and configuration. However, these abilities make an ...SDN-based MTS with a single controller vulnerable to cyber-attacks. A centralized-based intrusion detection system (IDS) technique requires uploading the network traffic features as well as training data to the cloud server. An SDN-based MTS that is concerned with data privacy makes it challenging. This study proposes a blockchain-based federated cyber-attacks classification framework to maintain data in a decentralized manner, raise privacy concerns, and perform a secure decentralized aggregation mechanism. A proof-of-authority (PoA)-based blockchain network with an interplanetary file system (IPFS) as off-chain distributed storage is implemented to provide a secure and trusted federated IDS framework. Moreover, the proposed lightweight CNN-based IDS model used a residual connection and factorized convolution structure to fix the gradient vanishing issue and provide a low-complexity network structure. The model measurement shows that the proposed model performs better than state-of-the-art models in terms of accuracy, computing cost, and model design complexity.
Rett syndrome is a rare inherited neurodegenerative disease which mostly affects females but has a lethal impact on males. Rett syndrome is mostly caused by mutations of Methyl CpG binding protein-2 ...(MECP2) gene located on chromosome Xq28. A 7-year girl from a consanguineous Pakistani family presented with history of abnormal social behavior, tonic colonic seizures, limb'sataxia, intellectual disability, growth retardation and speech abnormalities. Physical and neurological examinations established likely clinical features of Rett syndrome with abnormal electroencephalogram (EEG). Genetic testing of MECP2 gene did not identify any functional nucleotide variation indicating the involvement of another gene mutation in this patient.A consanguineous case of Rett syndrome did not carry the mutation of MECP2 gene. Due to heterogeneity of the phenotype, it is proposed that there might be involvement of another locus for this disease. In future, targeted next generation sequence can be helpful to identify the causative mutation in this patient.
In this study, Raman spectroscopy along with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is used for the characterization of pure essential oil (pure EO) isolated from the leaves of the Hemp (Cannabis sativa ...L.,) as well as its different fractions obtained by fractional distillation process. Raman spectra of pure Hemp essential oil and its different fractions show characteristic key bands of main volatile terpenes and terpenoids, which significantly differentiate them from each other. These bands provide information about the chemical composition of sample under investigation and hence can be used as Raman spectral markers for the qualitative monitoring of the pure EO and different fractions containing different active compounds. PCA differentiates the Raman spectral data into different clusters and loadings of the PCA further confirm the biological origin of the different fractions of the essential oil.
Penicillin G acylase (PGA) is one of the most widely used enzymes at an industrial scale. It is used to hydrolyze penicillin G to produce 6- aminopenicillanic acid (6-APA), a required intermediate in ...the production of semi-synthetic penicillins. Escherichia coli is the most abundantly used organism for PGA production. Present study was focused on the kinetics of growth and PGA production of three local E. coli isolates, FH6-NIAB, FMu2-NIAB and FD25-NIAB. Optimal enzyme production was reached after 18 hr. For longer incubations, the enzymatic activity decreased slightly. PGA activity was detectable after about 6 hours of incubation. For the selected isolates, PGA production was determined for various concentrations of glucose and phenylacetic acid in the medium. PGA production by E. coli isolates was completely repressed by glucose concentration above 5 g/l. Production of PGA by E. coli isolates was completely dependent upon the presence of PAA in the medium and optimal enzyme activity was obtained between 1 g/l and 2 g/l of PAA. Enzyme activity was found to be highest when PAA was used as an inducer. PGA production by our local E. coli isolates was completely inducible.
We studied 38 patients with acute renal failure (ARF) due to malaria over a 5-year period between 1990 and 1994 at the Institute of Urology and Transplantation. There were 30 males and 8 females who ...ranged in age from 13 to 75 years. Most were critically ill on presentation with blood urea levels between 116 and 587 mg% and serum creatinine concentrations between 3 and 30 mg%. Anemia accompanied by hyperbilirubinemia was a result of severe hemolysis. Antimalarial therapy consisted of quinine sulfate, chloroquine, or both. Of the 38 patients, 32 required hemodialysis and eventually recovered normal (n = 29) or near normal (n = 3) function. Six patients died.
