Background. The obesity epidemic is considered one of the main challenges for modern medicine. It has been proven that bariatric surgery is more effective than nonsurgical interventions to manage ...weight-related comorbidities. The general surgeon needs to understand how tooth erosion advances in gastroesophageal reflux in people who have had bariatric surgery. Dental erosion caused due to gastric reflux begins with the enamel, which is the tough, protective coating that covers our teeth. While it is tough, it is prone to an extremely acidic environment with a low pH, where it begins to soften and demineralize, gradually wearing away and exposing the more sensitive areas of the tooth. Because of the growing popularity of this subspecialty, general surgeons should develop a basic clinical and surgical understanding of these standard procedures and complications, regardless of their interest in obesity surgery. Aim. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the awareness and attitude of surgeons regarding dental erosion on patients who underwent bariatric surgery. Materials and Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted on general surgeons from different regions of Saudi Arabia who perform bariatric surgeries. Data collection was done by sending the questionnaire to the general surgeons by different means of social media (WhatsApp, e-mail, Facebook, etc.), and it was also distributed through the Saudi Arabia Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Results. A total of 25 general surgeons responded to the survey. Half of the respondents know what dental erosion is, 52%. Most of them, 72%, are not aware of the relationship between dental erosion and acid reflux or vomiting. They reported that 52% of patients complain of gastroesophageal reflux disorder. Conclusion. The general surgeons had inadequate awareness and attitude regarding dental erosion on bariatric surgery patients. Our findings suggest that a lack of adequate awareness and a negative attitude among general surgeons are grounds for concern and that more should be done to avoid oral health complications.
The aim of this study was to study the prevalence of ocular findings in patients with orbital fractures in a tertiary center in Saudi Arabia.
A cross-sectional observational study was performed. The ...participants were patients who presented with orbital trauma to the emergency department of King Saud Medical City (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia). Subjects included those diagnosed with isolated orbital fracture using clinical evaluation and CT examination. We performed direct evaluation of ocular findings for all patients. Variables studied included age, gender, site of ocular fracture, cause of trauma, side of fracture, and ocular findings.
In total, 74 patients with orbital fractures were included in this study (
= 74). Of the 74 patients, 69 (93.2%) were males and only 5 patients (6.8%) were females. The age range was 8-70 years, with a median age of 27 years. The 27.5-32.6-year age group was the most affected (95.0%). The left orbital bone was involved in the majority of bone fractures 48 (64.9%). The orbital floor (
= 52, 41.9%) and lateral wall (
= 31, 25.0%) were the most prevalent sites of bone fracture among the study patients. Road traffic accidents (RTAs) were the most common causes (64.9%) of orbital fractures, followed by assaults (16.2%) and then sports injuries and falls (9.5% and 8.1%, respectively). Animal attacks were the least cause of trauma (only 1 patient, 1.4%). The occurrence of ocular findings, either alone or in combination, showed that subconjunctival hemorrhage had the highest percentage (52.0%), followed by edema (17.6%) and ecchymosis (13.6%). A statistically significant correlation was reported between the site of bone fracture and orbital findings, with r = 0.251 * and
< 0.05.
Subconjunctival bleeding, edema, and ecchymosis were the most frequent ocular abnormalities, in that order. There were a few instances of diplopia, exophthalmos, and paresthesia. Other ocular discoveries were incredibly uncommon. The location of bone fractures was found to be significantly correlated with ocular results.

The records of patients treated with SLA/SLActive Straumann implants were screened. This enabled us to have a minimum of 12 months of follow-up. Eligible patients, according to the inclusion criteria, were contacted and invited to undergo a follow-up assessment. Success was accounted for and defined in a comprehensive manner by considering four different categories: implant perspective, peri-implant soft tissue perspective, prosthetic perspective, and patient satisfaction. The patient investigations included a clinical examination of the implant mobility, suppuration, width of keratinized mucosa, probing depth, plaque accumulation, prosthetic complications, and patient satisfaction. In addition, a periapical radiograph was taken to evaluate bone loss and peri-implant radiolucency. The data were analysed using SPSS version 26.
Thirty-eight patients with 84 SLA/SLActive Straumann implants were available for the assessment. The mean age of the patients at implant surgery was 49.05 ± 13.19 years. Over the mean follow-up period of 26 months, no implant fractures were noted. Overall, eight implants were considered failures (9.5%). Two out of six patients with a history of periodontitis (HoP) and two out of five smokers exhibited failed implants. The patients' satisfaction responses showed that all the responses were statistically higher than the test median value of three. The median value of general satisfaction using a visual analogue scale was 9 out of 10.
The implants placed on partially and fully edentulous patients revealed high survival and success rates (100% and 90.5%, respectively) at a mean follow-up time of 26 months. It can be concluded that the implant practise among trainees in the programme is satisfactory. A history of periodontitis and a lack of patient compliance with supportive periodontal therapy in some cases have been shown to be risk factors associated with increased implant failure, mainly peri-implantitis.
This in vitro research aimed to evaluate the Tensile Bond Strength of Poly Ether Ether Ketone and Zirconia copings using resin cement with or without Visio.link adhesive. From commercially available ...Zirconia and PEEK, blocks were machined milled using (CAD)/(CAM) to obtain 20 Zirconia and 20 PEEK copings. These specimens were sandblasted using 110 μm of alumina. The two main groups (20 Zirconia and 20 PEEK copings) were divided further into 4 subgroups, GROUP 1 (n = 10) PEEK substructure with self-adhesive resin cement without pretreatment, and GROUP 2 (n = 10) PEEK substructure with self-adhesive resin cement pre-treated with Visio.link adhesive. GROUP 3 (n = 10) Zirconia copings with self-adhesive resin cement without pretreatment. GROUP 4 (n = 10) Zirconia copings with self-adhesive resin cement pre-treated with Visio.link adhesive. Universal testing machine was used to evaluate the tensile bond strength of these copings. The results were analyzed using SPSS software Version 25.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). One-way ANOVA and independent t-test were used to compare the mean scores. Statistically significant increase was observed in Tensile Bond Strength of samples when Visio.link adhesive was used. Tensile Bond Strength of PEEK copings and Zirconia copings with Visio.link adhesive is considerably greater than PEEK copings and Zirconia copings without adhesive. The mean Tensile Bond Strength of Zirconia (with or without adhesive) is less as compared to Tensile Bond Strength of PEEK (with or without adhesive), but the difference is not statistically significant.

Treatment of large periapical defects using GTR increases overall treatment success.

The aim of this in vitro study was to assess the dimensional stability of 3D-printed edentulous and fully dentate hollowed maxillary models with 50-micrometer resolution over 1 day, 14 days, and 28 days using surface matching software.
Scanned edentulous and fully dentate maxillary typodont models were used as references. The models were scanned by a desktop lab scanner of 15-micrometer accuracy (D900, 3Shape). Then, the files were used in designing software (Meshmixer, Autodesk) to create hollowed maxillary casts. Fifteen edentulous and 15 fully dentate (total of 30) models were printed using a DLP lab printer (Cara print 4.0, Kulzer). The 3D-printed models were scanned using the same desktop lab scanner of 15-micrometer accuracy at intervals of baseline days, 1 day, 14 days, and 28 days to assess the effect of aging (n = 120). The dimensional changes were quantified and compared using the root mean square (RMS) method, expressed in micrometres (µm). The study employed repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) to assess and compare the root mean square (RMS) values across the variables. The data was analysed using SPSS (26, Chicago, Illinois, USA).
The RMS of the edentulous models rapidly increased from a mean value of 0.257 at the beginning of the study to 0.384 after twenty-eight days. However, the mean RMS values for the dentate models did not change much over the four intervals. It varied only from 0.355 to 0.347. The mean values for edentulous patients increased from 0.014 to 0.029 during the period from baseline to twenty-eight days. However, the mean average values decreased for the dentate models from 0.033 to 0.014 during this period. By utilizing ANOVA, mean RMS values increased insignificantly till one day but significantly to fourteen and twenty-eight days. Dentate model mean values differed insignificantly across four intervals. Repeated measures ANOVA for combined and separated data showed no significant differences across edentulous, dentate, and total models over times.
The study revealed changes in the dimensions of 3D-printed edentulous models over a span of 3 and 4 weeks. Caution should be applied when using 3D-printed dental master models for constructing definitive prostheses on edentulous models over a period of 3 to 4 weeks.

The manuscript search was carried out in six electronic databases-PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO, Cochrane, Web of Science and DOAJ, without publication year limits. Only manuscripts in English (including the translated articles) were selected, and the last search was performed in December 2020. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement was followed.
From the 128 potentially eligible studies, 48 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility. After eligibility assessment and exclusions, 14 studies were considered for systematic review and seven studies for meta-analysis. Amongst the selected studies for meta-analysis, three had a medium and four had a low risk of bias.
It was evidenced by the available data that Proanthocyanidin is the most efficient natural cross-linker to date, in preserving the bond strength even after ageing.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the clinical endodontic diagnostic skills amongst undergraduate dental students at pre-clinical and clinical levels at Cardiff University School of Dentistry. ...An online questionnaire containing eight questions about endodontic diagnosis and hypothetical clinical scenarios was sent to all year 3rd, 4th, and 5th-year undergraduate dental students who were divided into G1, G2, and G3 groups. The data were analysed descriptively and reported in percentages. Around 121 students out of 226 responded to the questionnaire with a response rate of 53.5%. The overall correct response from G1 (3rd year) was 31.6% to 65.8%, G2 (4th year) was 73% to 93%, and G3 (5th year) was 73.2% to 92.7%. The study concludes that the 4th and 5th-year undergraduate dental students’ responses to the hypothetical clinical scenarios were higher than the 3rd-year students. However, regarding questions about the endodontic diagnosis, the percentages of correct answers were similar among all the 3rd, 4th, and 5th-year students. Therefore, further studies assessing endodontic diagnostic skills amongst the same cohort of students during their progression in the undergraduate course are recommended.

A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Najran region of Saudi Arabia for 6 months. A stratified cluster random sampling of 252 teachers was taken to represent all the teachers of Najran region of Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire contains 2 parts, sociodemographic part that include age, gender, education, teaching level, and income of the participants. The second part contains 25 items that assess the OHL (HelD-14 questions), knowledge (6 questions), and attitude (5 questions) of the participants. SPSS software version 26 was used to enter and analyze the data (IBM SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA software version 26.0). Multiple Logistic regression was applied to check the relationship between OHL and the associated factors. The Chi-square test was applied to evaluate knowledge of study participants. The level of significance was set up at p < 0.05.
A total of 252 school teachers with a Mean age of school teachers 32.25 ± 8.46 participated in the study. The multiple logistic regression model shows the association between age, education, and OHL level of school teachers. After adjustment for sociodemographic factors age (OR = 0.219, 95% CI: 0.058-0.834), education (OR = 9.053, 95% CI: 1.135-72,023) were significantly associated with OHL of school teachers. Female participants showed better performance with respect to all the knowledge questions, a significantly higher level of knowledge (p-value < 0.05) was reported with all the questions except the second question (dental plaques causes). 94.8% of teachers agreed that children's teeth should be checked by a dentist on a regular basis, while 96.8% agreed that dental health education should be included in the primary school curriculum and that all teachers should receive dental health education training.
Overall, school teachers have high oral health literacy, adequate knowledge, and a positive attitude toward oral health. The female teachers had more knowledge about dentistry than their male counterparts.
Background: Immediate implant is a subtype of implant that is placed following tooth extraction within the socket without further delay. These implants are known to preserve the alveolar bone and ...minimize the total number of surgical interventions in a patient. 4 Photodynamic therapy (PDT) augments nonsurgical periodontal therapy using antibacterial mechanisms. PTD can be more effective in conjunction with scaling and root planing (SRP). The aim of this study is to assess the effects of PDT on the early outcomes of implants placed on patients with periodontitis with and without SRP at 9 months of follow-up. Materials and methods: A total of 23 implants were placed in 14 patients, with 11 in the test group and 12 in the control group. SRP was carried out prior to immediate implant placement in control sites, and PDT adjunctive to SRP (SRP + PDT) was performed in test sites before immediate implant placement. Plaque index, gingival index, probing pocket depth, clinical attachment level, and radiovisiographs were procured at baseline, 3 months, 6 months, and 9 months. Primary stability was examined at the time of implant placement, and the healing index was recorded a week later. Results: At the end of the 9 months of the study period, (SRP + PDT) group had a mean marginal bone loss of 0.95 mm, and the control group had 1.08 mm. Clinical parameters such as plaque index, gingival index, clinical attachment level, and probing depth showed definitive improvement after 9 months, compared with the baseline, but when the test and control groups were compared, the difference was statistically significant for plaque index and probing depth. The implants in both groups were followed up for a period of 9 months. There was an improvement in marginal bone loss but was not statistically significant. The survival of immediate implants in the PDT group was not different from those in the scaling and root planing group. Conclusion: The effect of PTD can be beneficially used as an adjunct to SRP. However, the effects were not significant. Photodynamic therapy can be effectively used as an adjunct to SRP owing to the better outcomes using PDT.
