In this paper, we present a novel way to manufacture the bulk Micromegas detector. A simple process based on the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology is employed to produce the entire sensitive ...detector. Such a fabrication process could be extended to very large area detectors made by the industry. The low cost fabrication together with the robustness of the electrode materials will make it attractive for several applications ranging from particle physics and astrophysics to medicine.

A new neutron detector based on Micromegas technology has been developed for the measurement of the simulated neutron spectrum in the ADS project. After the presentation of simulated neutron spectra ...obtained in the interaction of 140
MeV protons with the spallation target inside the TRIGA core, a full description of the new detector configuration is given. The advantage of this detector compared to conventional neutron flux detectors and the results obtained with the first prototype at the CELINA 14
MeV neutron source facility at CEA-Cadarache are presented. The future developments of operational Piccolo-Micromegas for fast neutron reactors are also described.
The absolute efficiency of a high purity germanium (HPGe) detector was determined with a point-like calibrated
152Eu source at two distances from the detector and three pure metallic thorium foils of ...different thicknesses. The experimental values are compared with the ones determined with the simulation codes MCNP4B and GEANT 3.21. A procedure for HPGe absolute efficiency calibration is proposed for
γ-ray energies higher than 200
keV.
After a short description of the Micromegas principle, a concept of new neutron detectors based on this technique is presented. It is illustrated by an overall picture of the use of these detectors ...in different domains such as: nuclear physics, inertial fusion and industrial applications. A particular description will be devoted to two topics. The first one concerns the compact detector named ldquoPiccolo- Micromegasrdquo. This detector, capable of measuring a neutron flux in a broad range of neutron energies, is developed for the measurements of the in-core neutrons flux of future generations of nuclear reactors. The second one based on the new micro-bulk concept is developed for a monitoring detector of a neutron beam.

We present a new type of gaseous detectors, the spherical proportional counter. It consists of a small metallic ball, 16 mm in diameter, located at the centre of curvature of a large spherical ...vessel, acting as a proportional amplification structure. It allows high gas gains to be reached and operates from low to high gas pressure. This simple and robust structure allows large volumes to be read out with a single electronic channel. The detector performance presently achieved is already close to fulfil the demands of many challenging projects from low energy neutrino physics to dark matter detection with applications in neutron, alpha, gamma spectroscopy. Preliminary results of neutron flux measurements currently going on in underground laboratory will be presented.

The micropattern gaseous detector Micromegas has been developed for several years in Saclay and presents good performance for neutron detection. A prototype for neutron imaging has been designed and ...new results obtained in thermal neutron beams are presented. Based on previous results demonstrating a good 1D spatial resolution, a tomographic image of a multiwire cable has been performed using a 1D Micromegas prototype. The number of pillars supporting the micromesh is too large and leads to local losses of efficiency that distort the tomographic reconstruction. Nevertheless, this first tomographic image achieved with this kind of detector is very encouraging. The next worthwhile development for neutron imaging is to achieve a bi-dimensional detector, which is presented in the second part of this study. The purpose of measurements was to investigate various operational parameters to optimize the spatial resolution. Through these measurements the optimum spatial resolution has been found to be around 160 /spl mu/m (standard deviation) using Micromegas operating in double amplification mode. Several 2D imaging tests have been carried out. Some of these results have revealed fabrication defects that occurred during the manufacture of Micromegas and that are limiting the full potential of the present neutron imaging system.
