Haemangiopericytoma is an aggressive vascular tumour with a high propensity for recurrence and metastasis. It typically occurs in the soft tissues of the extremities and trunk, and is rarely seen in ...the oral cavity. A case of haemangiopericytoma of the hard palate is presented. A 48-year-old woman presented with a gradually enlarging mass on the left side of her hard palate for 3 months. CT scans revealed a mass on the left side of the hard palate which extended to the nasal cavity and left maxillary sinus by causing erosion in the bones. Due to the possibility of local recurrence and occasional metastasis, a wide local excision was performed. There was no recurrence over 1 year's follow up.
We are developing a hand-held imaging probe intended for intra-operative use. This probe is to be used after the bulk of a tumor has been removed. It will locate residual malignant tissue labeled by ...a pre-operative injection of a tumor-seeking radiopharmaceutical. The device presented here is a prototype system that consists of a 4/spl times/8 array of 925 /spl mu/m diameter plastic scintillating fibers. The imaging array is coupled to Visible Light Photon Counters (VLPCs) via 2 meters of optical fiber. We have obtained an intrinsic spatial resolution of <1.0 mm with a highly collimated beta source, and a 2.0 mm resolution with a 1 mm, uncollimated source. Standard deviations of the relative gain and sensitivity over the 32 imaging elements were found to be 9.6% and 11.7% of the mean, respectively.< >

In the course of research and development of a fiber detector for CDF Run II we have made measurments of the light yield increase due to fiber mirroring, and both the noise and rate capability of ...visible light photon detectors (VLPCs). We found the reflection coefficient, R=0.65±0.01 could be obtained using aluminum sputtering. We also found that both the noise level and the rate capability of the VLPCs were acceptable for use in CDF for collider Run II.
Main features of gas-ionization sampling calorimeters are outlined and compared with acrylic scintillator wave-length shifter calorimeters. Calorimetry by track counting using Geiger and limited ...streamer modes is discussed.
We report the first observation of dijet events with a double Pomeron exchange topology produced in p collisions at sqrts = 1800 GeV. The events are characterized by a leading antiproton, two jets in ...the central pseudorapidity region, and a large rapidity gap on the outgoing proton side. We present results on jet kinematics and production rates, compare them with corresponding results from single diffractive and inclusive dijet production, and test factorization.
