Abstract Introduction Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is today the gold standard treatment of the end-stage liver disease. Different solutions are used for graft preservation. Our objective ...was to compare the results of cadaveric donor OLT, preserved with the University of Wisconsin (UW) or Celsior solutions in the portal vein and Euro-Collins in the aorta. Methods We evaluated retrospectively 72 OLT recipients, including 36 with UW solution (group UW) and 36 with Celsior (group CS). Donors were perfused in situ with 1000 mL UW or Celsior in the portal vein of and 3000 mL of Euro-Collins in the aortia and on the back table managed with 500 mL UW or Celsior in the portal vein, 250 mL in the hepatic artery, and 250 mL in the biliary duct. We evaluated the following variables: donor characteristics, recipient features, intraoperative details, reperfusion injury, and steatosis via a biopsy after reperfusion. We noted grafts with primary nonfunction (PNF), initial poor function (IPF), rejection episodes, biliary duct complications, hepatic artery complications, re-OLT, and recipient death in the first year after OLT. Results The average age was 33.6 years in the UW group versus 41 years in the CS group ( P = .048). There was a longer duration of surgery in the UW group ( P = .001). The other recipient characteristics, ischemia-reperfusion injury, steatosis, PNF, IPF, rejection, re-OLT, and recipient survival were not different. Stenosis of the biliary duct occured in 3 (8.3%) cases in the UW group and 8 (22.2%) in the CS ( P = .19) with hepatic artery thrombosis in 4 (11.1%) CS versus none in the UW group ( P = .11). Conclusion Cadaveric donor OLT showed similar results with organs preserved with UW or Celsior in the portal vein and Euro-Collins in the aorta.
We used data from 78 individuals at 26 microsatellite loci to infer parental and sibling relationships within a community of fish-eating ("resident") eastern North Pacific killer whales (Orcinus ...orca). Paternity analysis involving 15 mother/calf pairs and 8 potential fathers and whole-pedigree analysis of the entire sample produced consistent results. The variance in male reproductive success was greater than expected by chance and similar to that of other aquatic mammals. Although the number of confirmed paternities was small, reproductive success appeared to increase with male age and size. We found no evidence that males from outside this small population sired any of the sampled individuals. In contrast to previous results in a different population, many offspring were the result of matings within the same "pod" (long-term social group). Despite this pattern of breeding within social groups, we found no evidence of offspring produced by matings between close relatives, and the average internal relatedness of individuals was significantly less than expected if mating were random. The population's estimated effective size was <30 or about 1/3 of the current census size. Patterns of allele frequency variation were consistent with a population bottleneck.
We found 140 neutrino-induced muons in 854.24 live days in the MINOS far detector. We looked for evidence of neutrino disappearance in this data set by computing the ratio of the number of low ...momentum muons to the sum of the number of high momentum and unknown momentum muons for both data and Monte Carlo expectation in the absence of neutrino oscillations. The ratio of data and Monte Carlo ratios is consistent with an oscillation signal. A fit to the data for the oscillation parameters excludes the null oscillation hypothesis at the 94% confidence level. We separated the muons by charge sign in both the data and Monte Carlo events and found the ratio of the total number of negative to positive muons in both samples. The ratio of those ratios is a test of CPT conservation. The result is consistent with CPT conservation.
The (re) emergence of arboviruses around the world is a public health concern once severe outbreaks are usually associated with these infections. The co-circulation of Dengue (DENV), Zika (ZIKV) and ...Chikungunya (CHIKV) viruses in the past few years has caused a unique epidemic situation in Brazil. The northeast region of the country was the most affected by clinical complications from such arboviruses’ infections, including neurological disorders caused by ZIKV. In this particular region,
Aedes
mosquitoes are the main vectors of DENV, ZIKV and CHIKV, with
Culex quinquefasciatus
also considered as a potential vector of ZIKV. Therefore, virological surveillance in mosquitoes contributes to understanding the epidemiological profile of these diseases. Here, we report the circulation of DENV, ZIKV and CHIKV in
Aedes
spp. and
Cx. quinquefasciatus
female mosquitoes collected in areas with a high arbovirus circulation in humans in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, during the triple-epidemics of 2015-17. All the field-caught mosquitoes were sent to the laboratory for arbovirus screening after RNA extraction and RT-PCR/RT-qPCR. A total of 6,227 females were evaluated and, as a result, DENV, ZIKV and CHIKV were identified in
Ae. aegypti
,
Ae. taeniorhynchus
and
Cx. quinquefasciatus
mosquito pools. In addition, DENV and ZIKV were isolated in C6/36 cells. In conclusion, it is important to highlight that arbovirus surveillance performed in mosquitoes from DENV-ZIKV-CHIKV hotspots areas can serve as an early-warning system to target vector control actions more efficiently in each studied area.
The studies that have examined this process have largely focused on physical education teachers or preservice teachers (Hopper, 2009; O'Leary, 2014) and have been limited in their duration.
Furthermore, the study identified the organizational values, behaviors, and practices that enabled the organization and coaches to embrace and fully adopt the change in pedagogical philosophy and ...practice.
The findings suggest the positive impact a bespoke GCA coach education program can have on both the philosophical beliefs and pedagogical practice of coaches engaging in the program.

Burkitt lymphoma (BL) is a very rare non-Hodgkin lymphoma with an extremely short doubling time that tends to affect children in the jaw. Here we report the case of a 6-year-old boy who visited the ...emergency service complaining of jaw pain, jaw swelling, and dental mobility for 20 days. Biopsy was performed and the diagnosis of BL was established. The patient was immediately admitted at the oncohematology center of a pediatric institute for treatment. Admission examination revealed generalized lymphadenopathy, sagittal sinus thrombosis, and tumor infiltration in the sphenoidal and maxillary sinuses, liver, lung, both kidneys, pancreas, and spinal canal, curving the spinal cord backwards. Treatment started immediately according to the non-Hodgkin lymphoma Berlin-Frankfurt-Munster-95 (NHL-BFM-95) protocol and currently, the patient is in complete remission without signs of disease. This report demonstrates that rapid and precise diagnosis with immediate treatment was essential for therapeutic effectiveness and should be considered for improved BL prognosis.
