In the context of global aging, cardiovascular disease has become the number one cause of death among Chinese women. Lifestyle factors play an important role in the development of coronary heart ...disease, and as awareness of the pathophysiology of coronary atherosclerosis has increased, lifestyle interventions play an important role in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease. However, there is a lack of research on the factors affecting coronary heart disease in female populations. Strengthening health education for women with coronary heart disease, reducing the burden of disease, improving the quality of life, and developing reasonable prevention strategies are crucial. Based on the review of the literature, this study reviews the risk factors for coronary heart disease and provides a scientific basis for awareness and early prevention of coronary heart disease in women.
Fingerprints of π-conjugated compounds are ubiquitous in nature and play a crucial part in human existence. For instance, cis-retinal, an endogenous π-conjugated molecule present in the eye, performs ...a vital role in the function of visual perception. π-Conjugated molecules have also received a great deal of attention owing to their intriguing optical properties and created a surge in optoelectronics. Varieties of π-conjugated molecules/oligomers have been developed and explored for a number of applications such as organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), organic photovoltaics (OPVs), and sensors, among others. While the extended π-delocalization in one-dimensional (1D) polymers versus oligomers produce superior optical and electronic properties, further extension of π-delocalization to the second dimension (2D) is expected to give rise even more intriguing properties as revealed by theoretical studies. As a matter of fact, graphene is the best example of 2D-conjugated polymers, but its zero-band-gap behavior is a major impediment for semiconducting applications. In contrast, it was challenging to prepare 2D crystalline polymers until the discovery of boroxine/boronate ester linked covalent organic frameworks (COFs) by Yaghi and co-workers. COFs are a new class of porous crystalline polymers in which organic building blocks are held together by covalent bonds. These polymers exhibit potential applications in gas storage, energy storage, photocatalyst, heterogeneous catalysis, sensors, etc. However, the first π-conjugated COF was realized in 2009 via the introduction of imine linker (−CN−) between the building blocks. Since then, wide varieties of COFs with various π-delocalization promoting spacers have been developed and explored their electronic and optical properties and pertinent applications. In this review, we will highlight the importance of 2D π-conjugated COFs and their achievements in developing novel functionalities.
Unlike the well-defined long-range order that characterizes crystalline metals, the atomic arrangements in amorphous alloys remain mysterious at present. Despite intense research activity on metallic ...glasses and relentless pursuit of their structural description, the details of how the atoms are packed in amorphous metals are generally far less understood than for the case of network-forming glasses. Here we use a combination of state-of-the-art experimental and computational techniques to resolve the atomic-level structure of amorphous alloys. By analysing a range of model binary systems that involve different chemistry and atomic size ratios, we elucidate the different types of short-range order as well as the nature of the medium-range order. Our findings provide a reality check for the atomic structural models proposed over the years, and have implications for understanding the nature, forming ability and properties of metallic glasses.
The prevalence of diabetes in China is among the highest in the world. For this reason, findings from the 2016 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study were used to calculate the burden of hyperglycaemia ...and diabetes in China.
Following the general analytical strategy used in GBD 2016, diabetes prevalence and mortality were analyzed by age and gender. Trends in disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) due to diabetes were assessed in 33 province-level administrative units from 1990 to 2016, and similar data were provided for chronic kidney disease (CKD) related to diabetes and, as an overall summarizing measure, for hyperglycaemia expressed as high fasting plasma glucose (HFPG).
From 1990 to 2016, all-age prevalence of diabetes rose from 3.7% to 6.6%, and all-age diabetes and diabetes-related CKD mortality rates increased by 63.5% and 33.3%, respectively, with both rates increasing more rapidly in diabetes patients aged 15–49 years than in any other age groups. In 2016, HFPG became China's sixth leading cause of DALYs, and the attributable DALYs burden was 1802.3/100,000 population. Although the number of diabetes DALYs increased by 95% from 1990 to 2016, age-standardized diabetes DALYs rates increased by only 2.3%. Also, from 1990 to 2016, rates of age-standardized DALYs due to diabetes decreased in 14 provinces, but increased in 19 provinces. High BMI Scores and diets low in whole grains, nuts and seeds were the most important risk factors for diabetes in 2016.
Diabetes and hyperglycaemia constitute a huge health burden in China. The substantial increase in diabetes-related burden represents an ongoing challenge, given the rapidly ageing Chinese population. Thus, a targeted control and preventative strategy needs to be developed at risk factor level to reduce this burden.
Dysregulation of transcription factors (TFs) is associated with tumor progression, but little is known about TF expression patterns in the context of gastric cancer (GC) metastasis. Using array-based ...profile analysis, we found that 22 TFs showed differential activities between GC cell lines with low- and high-metastatic potential. Of this group of TFs, serum response factor (SRF) was significantly upregulated in metastatic GC cells. SRF expression was frequently elevated in a panel of metastatic GC cells and tissues, and high-level expression of SRF was significantly associated with a more aggressive phenotype and poor prognosis in patients with GC. In GC cell lines, overexpression of SRF potently promoted cell migration and invasion in vitro as well as the formation of intrahepatic and pulmonary metastases in vivo, whereas loss of SRF inhibited GC cell invasion and metastasis. We also performed a microRNA microarray to screen for transcriptional targets of SRF and found that SRF transactivates miR-199a-5p and miR-199a-3p by directly binding to their promoters. We further determined that overexpression of miR-199a-5p, but not miR-199a-3p, increased GC cell invasion and metastasis. In contrast, inhibition of miR-199a-5p impaired the metastatic potential of GC cells in vitro and in vivo, and E-cadherin was identified as a direct and functional target of miR-199a-5p in GC cells. Specifically, our results showed that SRF promotes GC metastasis and the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) though miR-199a-5p-mediated downregulation of E-cadherin. The present study thus provides insight into the specific biological behavior of SRF in GC metastasis. As increased activity of the SRF/miR-199a-5p/E-cadherin pathway appears to promote GC cell EMT and metastasis, these regulators may therefore be developed as therapeutic targets or biomarkers for GC progression.
A previous genetic study has suggested that schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) share common ...disease-associated genes. However, whether individuals with first-degree relatives (FDRs) with schizophrenia have a higher risk of these major psychiatric disorders requires further investigation. This study used Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database and identified 151 650 patients with schizophrenia and 227 967 individuals with FDRs with schizophrenia. The relative risks (RRs) of schizophrenia and other major psychiatric disorders were assessed in individuals with FDRs with schizophrenia. The individuals with FDRs with schizophrenia exhibited higher RRs (95% confidence interval) of major psychiatric disorders, namely schizophrenia (4.76, 4.65-4.88), bipolar disorder (3.23, 3.12-3.35), major depressive disorder (2.05, 2.00-2.10), ASD (2.55, 2.35-2.77) and ADHD (1.31, 1.25-1.37) than were found in the total population. Several sensitivity analyses were conducted to confirm these results. A dose-dependent relationship was observed between the risks of major psychiatric disorders and the numbers of FDRs with schizophrenia. The increased risks of major psychiatric disorders were consistent in different family relationships, namely among parents, offspring, siblings and twins. Our study supports the familial dose-dependent co-aggregation of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, ASD and ADHD, and our results may prompt governmental public health departments and psychiatrists to focus on the mental health of individuals with FDRs with schizophrenia.
This study has presented an efficient coating method, namely suspension high velocity oxy-fuel (SHVOF) thermal spraying, to produce large super-hydrophobic ceramic surfaces with a unique micro- and ...nano-scale hierarchical structures to mimic natural super-hydrophobic surfaces. CeO
was selected as coatings material, one of a group of rare-earth oxide (REO) ceramics that have recently been found to exhibit intrinsic hydrophobicity, even after exposure to high temperatures and abrasive wear. Robust hydrophobic REO ceramic surfaces were obtained from the deposition of thin CeO
coatings (3-5 μm) using an aqueous suspension with a solid concentration of 30 wt.% sub-micron CeO
particles (50-200 nm) on a selection of metallic substrates. It was found that the coatings' hydrophobicity, microstructure, surface morphology, and deposition efficiency were all determined by the metallic substrates underneath. More importantly, it was demonstrated that the near super-hydrophobicity of SHVOF sprayed CeO
coatings was achieved not only by the intrinsic hydrophobicity of REO but also their unique hierarchically structure. In addition, the coatings' surface hydrophobicity was sensitive to the O/Ce ratio, which could explain the 'delayed' hydrophobicity of REO coatings.
Abstract
The changes of broad emission lines should be a crucial issue in understanding the physical properties of changing-look active galactic nuclei (CL-AGNs). Here we present the results of an ...intensive and homogeneous 6 month long reverberation mapping (RM) monitoring campaign during a low-activity state of the CL-AGN Seyfert galaxy NGC 3516. Photometric and spectroscopic monitoring was carried out during 2018–2019 with the Lijiang 2.4 m telescope. The sampling is 2 days in most nights, and the average sampling is ∼3 days. The rest-frame time lags of H
α
and H
β
are
and
days, respectively. From an rms H
β
line dispersion of
σ
line
= 1713.3 ± 46.7 km s
−1
and a virial factor of
f
σ
= 5.5, the central black hole mass of NGC 3516 is estimated to be
, which is in agreement with previous estimates. The velocity-resolved delays show that the time lags increase toward negative velocity for both H
α
and H
β
. The velocity-resolved RM of H
α
is done for the first time. These RM results are consistent with other observations before the spectral-type change, indicating a basically constant broad-line region structure during the CL process. The CL model of changes of accretion rate seems to be favored by long-term H
β
variability and RM observations of NGC 3516.

in underground reservoir or saline aquifer is one important means of mitigating greenhouse effect on the environment and enhancing oil and gas recovery. One of preconditions for the ...feasibility of such a project is well integrity of the large amounts of wells in the field, especially old abandoned wells. The evaluation of well integrity for plugged and abandoned wells is a big challenge but very important. The author introduces one comprehensive well integrity evaluation method, and then uses Monte Carlo simulation technique to estimate CO

leakage rate and the risk of exceeding a predetermined limit. The results of calculation are going to help people make decisions about the well integrity.
