While inadequate relationships in the workplace pose a significant psychosocial risk, quality interpersonal relationships can contribute to positive effects and prevent negative outcomes. Erskine’s ...model of relational needs, not yet studied in the work environment, can provide a more detailed understanding of the needs employees experience in their workplace relationships. We adapted the general Relational Needs Satisfaction Scale (RNSS) for coworker relationships and examined the factor structure of relational needs in the workplace and their connections to various work aspects. The sample comprised 273 participants, including both employees and students, in a workplace setting with coworkers. The results show that the Workplace Relational Needs Satisfaction Scale (W-RNSS) is a valid and reliable instrument ( α = 0.93 for the total scale and 0.77 < α < 0.89 for the subscales) for measuring relational needs in coworker relationships. A bi-factor model was the most suitable for describing the data ( χ 2 / df = 1.94, CFI = 0.95, TLI = 0.94, NNFI = 0.94, RMSEA = 0.06, SRMR = 0.04, AIC = 13289.27, BIC = 13506.29), confirming the previously supported 5-factor structure and the general factor. Satisfaction of relational needs was associated with higher work satisfaction, increased work engagement, greater motivation and lower burnout, underscoring the importance of quality interpersonal relationships among employees. W-RNSS shows potential for researching connections with other work aspects and practical applications in prevention and intervention strategies.
Emergency departments globally are overburdened, and emergency medicine residency is losing popularity among students and physicians. This raises concerns about the collapse of a life-saving system. ...Our goal was to identify the key workforce reasoning and question medical staff employment behavior.
This was a prospective cross-sectional study. In December 2022, medical students and pre-residency doctors in Slovenia were invited to complete a web-based questionnaire. The data were analyzed using T-test, chi-square test, Mann‒Whitney-Wilcoxon tests, and principal component analysis. Open-ended questions were hand-categorized.
There were 686 participatns who clicked on the first page and 436 of those finished the survey. 4% of participants gave a clear positive response, while 11% responded positively regarding their decision to pursue emergency medicine residency. The popularity of emergency medicine decreases significantly among recent medical school graduates upon their initial employment. People who choose emergency medicine are less concerned about its complexity and pressure compared to others. Most respondents preferred 12-hour shift lengths. The preferred base salary range for residents was I$ 3623-4529, and for specialists, it was I$ 5435-6341. The sample's primary personal priorities are achieving a satisfactory work-life balance, earning respect from colleagues, and engaging in academic activities. Factors that attract individuals to choose emergency medicine include high hourly wages, establishment of standards and norms, and reduced working hours.
Our findings indicate that enhancing compensation, establishing achievable standards and norms, facilitating a beneficial work-life equilibrium, providing assistance with initial property acquisition, stimulating participation in deficit residency programs, fostering collegiality among peers, restricting the duration of shifts, and enabling pension accrual may be imperative in attracting more individuals to pursue emergency medicine residency.
This study analyzed the psychometric properties of scores on the Slovene version of the
Questionnaire about Interpersonal Difficulties for Adolescents
(QIDA) in a sample of 1,334 adolescents (44% ...boys), ranging in age from 12 to 18 years (
M
= 15.61). Confirmatory factor analyses replicated the correlated five-factor structure of the QIDA: Assertiveness, Heterosexual Relationships, Public Speaking, Family Relationships, and Close Friendships. Internal consistency and test–retest reliability were reasonable. Correlations of scores on the QIDA with scores of neuroticism, low extraversion, and low openness, as measured by the Inventory of Child/Adolescent Individual Differences, and scores of fear of negative evaluation, and tension and inhibition in social contacts, as measured by the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents were found, revealing differential links with QIDA subscale scores. Girls reported more difficulties than boys. Age differences showed a small but significant decrease in QIDA total score over adolescence.
To conduct a study to improve diabetes knowledge through a web-based diabetes course in the general adult population. We hypothesised that participation in a web-based diabetes course would have a ...positive impact on diabetes knowledge retention.
Participants were randomly assigned to an experimental or control group. Participants in the experimental group attended an interactive web-based diabetes course. The Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire (DKQ24) was used to assess the diabetes knowledge levels. The DKQ24 was completed at the beginning and end of the observation period of 3 months. The experimental group also completed it immediately after the intervention.
At the end of the observation period, a statistically significant difference in the mean rank of DKQ24 scores was found in favor of the experimental group (p < .001). The results of the experimental group had a lower interquartile range (IQR = 3) than those of the control group (IQR = 5).
This study suggests that providing a web-based diabetes course to the general population is effective and can improve diabetes knowledge and retention.
The information system (IS) field lacks a scientifically based analytical tool for rapid delivery of IS due diligence. In 2013, a framework for IS due diligence (FISDD) was published. The work on ...this framework was continued with proceeding development and evaluation. One of the most important objectives of today's business is making savings concerning various resources. The main novelty of the upgraded framework is the replacement of some of the manually conducted questionnaires with web-based questionnaires. This novelty reduces the total time required for on-site ISDD activities by 35-50%, as has been the result of several real cases. The results demonstrate and confirm the usefulness of upgrading FISDD, which increases its efficiency in DD processes, which is the main contribution of this article.

The field of IT processes lacks a scientifically-based tool that constructs organisation-specific IT processes according to the organisation’s socio-technical characteristics.
In this paper we ...propose a solution to this problem in the form of IT process engineering (ITPE). ITPE is based on established method engineering principles which we have adapted to IT process construction.
The tool was demonstrated by having three organisations use ITPE to each construct two IT processes.
ITPE provided useful guidance in all three cases.
The study demonstrates that method engineering principles can be applied in research fields other than information system development.
The IS field lacks a scientifically based analytical tool for delivering IS due diligence. Due Diligence is the activity of identifying and measuring the risks and increasing the likelihood of ...productive investment. In this article, we propose a framework for IS due diligence development based on our generalized experiences conducting IS due diligence in more than 60 banks and financial organizations in Europe.
