Reportamos un evento de depredación el 13 de enero de 2018 de una lagartija espinosa de cabeza roja (Sceloporus pyrocephalus) por un carpintero enmascarado (Melanerpes chrysogenys) en un bosque ...tropical caducifolio en el volcán Gordo, al suroeste del Estado de México. Dicho evento consistió en la observación de un individuo de M. chrysogenys posado en un árbol sujetando con el pico a un individuo de S. pyrocephalus. Melanerpes chrysogenys se alimenta de insectos y de frutos; sin embargo, no se ha reportado que esta especie consume vertebrados. Aunque existen algunos reportes de depredación de reptiles por otro Piciformes, este registro representa el primer caso documentado de depredación de lagartijas para esta especie en México.
Registramos la presencia de un individuo de pato tepalcate (Oxyura jamaicensis) con plumaje diluido y dos de pato cucharón norteño (Spatula clypeata), uno con canoso progresivo y el otro con leucismo ...parcial en el Lago Nabor Carrillo en Texcoco, Estado de México. Estas observaciones representan los primeros registros de coloración aberrante para estas especies en México. Documentar este tipo de casos puede ayudar a entender la frecuencia de las aberraciones cromáticas, así como mecanismos de especiación en los diferentes grupos de aves.
Introducción: Los humedales cumplen una importante función ecológica como hábitats para diversos grupos de aves, en específico las de hábitos acuáticos. A pesar de su alta diversidad, en México ...existen escasos estudios sobre la composición y dinámica de la comunidad de aves en humedales. Objetivo: evaluar la dinámica espacial y temporal de la comunidad de aves acuáticas y rapaces en humedales. Métodos: para caracterizar las aves acuáticas y rapaces se realizaron transectos de distancia variable mensualmente durante noviembre de 2019 a febrero de 2022 humedales ubicados en la Zona Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México. Resultados: se registraron un total de 105 especies de aves. Los valores más altos de diversidad se encontraron en la Laguna de Zumpango (91 especies) y en el Lago Nabor Carrillo (91). La mayoría de estas especies son migratorias (63%), mientras que 30% son residentes, y 7% son introducidas. Se encontraron diferencias espaciales y temporales significativas (p<0,05) en la composición de la comunidad de aves. Conclusión: La mayor diversidad fue en Zumpango y Nabor Carrillo, y la mayoría fueron especies migratorias.
El leucismo es una aberración cromática, definida como la ausencia de melanina, que se expresa de manera total o parcial en el plumaje de las aves. Registramos la presencia de leucismo en un ...individuo adulto de gallareta americana (Fulica americana) en el lago Nabor Carrillo en Texcoco, Estado de México. La gallareta americana es un ave de amplia distribución geográfica, común en hábitats acuáticos desde Alaska hasta el norte de Sudamérica. Observamos al individuo el 29 y 31 de mayo y el 26 de junio de 2020 en el cuerpo de agua. Aunque existen diversos reportes de aves con leucismo, este registro representa el primer caso documentado de leucismo para esta especie en México.
This study reports an occurrence of Eurasian Wigeon (Mareca penelope) at Lago de Guadalupe in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico. In January, February, and March 2021, we documented one individual ...foraging and swimming. Our observation is the first record of this species in central Mexico, 650 km southwest of the closest prior record in Mexico. We concluded that the Eurasion Wigeon individual probably migrated with American Wigeon (Mareca americana) individuals.
lncRNAs are noncoding transcripts with tissue and cancer specificity. Particularly, in breast cancer, lncRNAs exhibit subtype-specific expression; they are particularly upregulated in luminal tumors. ...However, no gene signature-based laboratory tests have been developed for luminal breast cancer identification or the differential diagnosis of luminal tumors, since no luminal A- or B-specific genes have been identified. Particularly, luminal B patients are of clinical interest, since they have the most variable response to neoadjuvant treatment; thus, it is necessary to develop diagnostic and predictive biomarkers for these patients to optimize treatment decision-making and improve treatment quality. In this study, we analyzed the lncRNA expression profiles of breast cancer cell lines and patient tumor samples from RNA-Seq data to identify an lncRNA signature specific for luminal phenotypes. We identified an lncRNA signature consisting of LINC01016, GATA3-AS1, MAPT-IT1, and DSCAM-AS1 that exhibits luminal subtype-specific expression; among these lncRNAs, GATA3-AS1 is associated with the presence of residual disease (Wilcoxon test, p < 0.05), which is related to neoadjuvant chemotherapy resistance in luminal B breast cancer patients. Furthermore, analysis of GATA3-AS1 expression using RNA in situ hybridization (RNA ISH) demonstrated that this lncRNA is detectable in histological slides. Similar to estrogen receptors and Ki67, both commonly detected biomarkers, GATA3-AS1 proves to be a suitable predictive biomarker for clinical application in breast cancer laboratory tests.
Multi-drug resistant cervicovaginal Escherichia coli (CVEC) infections are a serious health problem. The aim of this study is to determine the patterns of virulence genes, antibiotic resistance and ...O-serogroups of CVEC isolated in Mexico. Two hundred strains of CVEC were isolated from women attending two Clinics at the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social. E. coli O-serogroups and virulence markers were identified by PCR. Antibiotic susceptibility was determined using the Kirby-Bauer disc-diffusion method. Serogroups O25 (50%), O75 (9%) and O15 (7.5%) were the most frequent among the CVEC strains isolated. The frequencies for antibiotic resistance were ampicillin 97%, (n = 194); carbenicillin 93.5%, (n = 187); cefalotin 77%, (n = 154); and nitrofurantoin 71%, (n = 142). The frequency of multiresistant isolates (3–12 drugs) was 197 (98.5%). The most frequent virulence genes found were feoB (91.5%), fimH (89.5%), kpsMT11 (75%), iutA (66%), and iroN (59%). One hundred and four distinct patterns of virulence markers with antibiotic-resistance genes associated with O-serogroups were identified amongst CVEC isolates. In conclusion: most CVEC strains isolated were multiresistant to antibiotics, belonged to three O-serogroups, and possessed a battery of virulence factors. This knowledge may lead to improved guidelines and standards for treating cervicovaginal infections.

Retrospective, observational, longitudinal study of renal transplants carried out from 2013 to 2017 in the Renal Transplant Unit of the National Medical Center Siglo XXI. A total of 790 transplants were performed, with surveillance for 1 year and rare events described. An analysis of frequencies and percentages of the events was performed using the statistical package SPSS version 25.
Of the 790 patients, 110 (13.92%) experienced rare events, classified into 9 types of complications.
Complications exist in renal transplantation that are often ignored or minimized. A considerable number have been observed in this study, 110 events (13.92%); this result allows us to consider multiple possibilities in a kidney transplant program, especially infectious complications (34 patients) and surgical complications (29 cases). With the increase in diabetic receptor transplantation, metabolic complications will surely increase in the coming years.
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality in women worldwide, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy has emerged as an option for the management of locally advanced breast cancer. Extensive ...efforts have been made to identify new molecular markers to predict the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Transcripts that do not encode proteins, termed long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), have been shown to display abnormal expression profiles in different types of cancer, but their role as biomarkers in response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy has not been extensively studied. Herein, lncRNA expression was profiled using RNA sequencing in biopsies from patients who subsequently showed either response or no response to treatment. GATA3-AS1 was overexpressed in the nonresponder group and was the most stable feature when performing selection in multiple random forest models. GATA3-AS1 was experimentally validated by quantitative RT-PCR in an extended group of 68 patients. Expression analysis confirmed that GATA3-AS1 is overexpressed primarily in patients who were nonresponsive to neoadjuvant chemotherapy, with a sensitivity of 92.9% and a specificity of 75.0%. The statistical model was based on luminal B-like patients and adjusted by menopausal status and phenotype (odds ratio, 37.49; 95% CI, 6.74–208.42; P = 0.001); GATA3-AS1 was established as an independent predictor of response. Thus, lncRNA GATA3-AS1 is proposed as a potential predictive biomarker of nonresponse to neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
