The pathological diagnosis of myocarditis rests on well-described histopathological criteria. Appreciation for the disease-specific sensitivity of the endomyocardial biopsy, as well as the ...phenotypical and functional nature of inflammatory infiltrates, will enhance the clinical utility of the biopsy technique. New information regarding the role of enteroviruses in immunological sensitization and the study of enteroviruses in murine models and human patients are fostering new perspectives and routes of investigation of appropriate therapeutic interventions for myocarditis.
In many distributed computing environments, collections of applications need to be processed using a set of heterogeneous computing (HC) resources to maximize some performance goal. An important ...research problem in these environments is how to assign resources to applications (matching) and order the execution of the applications (scheduling) so as to maximize some performance criterion without violating any constraints. This process of matching and scheduling is called mapping.
To make meaningful comparisons among mapping heuristics, a system designer needs to understand the assumptions made by the heuristics for (1) the model used for the application and communication tasks, (2) the model used for system platforms, and (3) the attributes of the mapping heuristics. This chapter presents a three-part classification scheme (3PCS) for HC systems. The 3PCS is useful for researchers who want to (a) understand a mapper given in the literature, (b) describe their design of a mapper more thoroughly by using a common standard, and (c) select a mapper to match a given real-world environment.
Outlines potential contributions of psychology to address the cancer problem with the overriding principle to provide a stimulus for discussion and future programmatic research efforts. Provides ...general directions for behavioral and psychological research in regards to the understanding of cancer. These contributions span description, the study of mechanisms underlying psychological and behavioral responses, and efforts to reduce incidence, morbidity, and mortality. Research training and funding are also discussed in the context of research and development. A brief discussion of dissemination of psychological and behavioral findings is also included. We present optical spectrophotometric monitoring of four active T Tauri stars (DG Tau, RY Tau, XZ Tau, RW Aur A) at high spectral resolution (\(R \ga 1 \times 10^4\)), to investigate the correlation ...between time variable mass ejection seen in the jet/wind structure of the driving source and time variable mass accretion probed by optical emission lines. This may allow us to constrain the understanding of the jet/wind launching mechanism, the location of the launching region, and the physical link with magnetospheric mass accretion. In 2010, observations were made at six different epochs to investigate how daily and monthly variability might affect such a study. We perform comparisons between the line profiles we observed and those in the literature over a period of decades and confirm the presence of time variability separate from the daily and monthly variability during our observations. This is so far consistent with the idea that these line profiles have a long term variability (3-20 years) related to episodic mass ejection suggested by the structures in the extended flow components. We also investigate the correlations between equivalent widths and between luminosities for different lines. We find that these correlations are consistent with the present paradigm of steady magnetospheric mass accretion and emission line regions that are close to the star.
We present angularly resolved spectra of T Tau North and South in the 3
micron water ice feature and K-band. Most of the water ice absorption lies
along the line of sight toward T Tau South, ...confirming that it is viewed
through stronger extinction. A decrease in ice-band absorption toward T Tau S
between December 1998 and January 2000, significant at the 2 sigma level, was
associated with an increase in its near infrared flux. Br gamma emission is
detected in T Tau North and South and H_{2} (2.12 micron) emission only toward
T Tau South, consistent with previous studies of infrared companions to T Tauri
stars. Our results suggest that the near IR variability of T Tau S is probably
caused by both variations in accretion rate and variable extinction along the
line of sight.
