So it is necessary to research to increase the utilization of ethanol extract of ...Acanthus ilicifolius leaves (A. ilicifolius L.) in encapsulations to increase the stability of antiinflammatory chemical compounds. Concentrated dyestuff extracts are often unstable, so they need to be converted into solid form, and one technique that can be done is encapsulation. Encapsulation aims to protect sensitive components of the material and reduce the degradation of active compounds in the material. The research method begins with preparing samples to be extracted with ethanol solvent, extract phytochemical screening tests, validation determination tests for the analysis method of ethanol extract levels of jeruju leaves, encapsulated formulations, encapsulated physics and chemical properties test and anti-inflammatory tests. In this research, the secondary metabolite compounds contained in the ethanol extract of Jeruju Leaves were flavonoids, phenolics, steroids, and saponins. The determination of the validation of the analysis method of ethanol extract levels of jeruju leaves was obtained by measurement using a UV-vis spectrophotometer and obtained extract levels of 1367,831 mg/g. This research used maltodextrin coating material for encapsulation formulation because it has low viscosity in many ratios, high solubility, has no taste. The freeze-dryer method was used in this study because it produces better drying quality than other drying methods. The physical property test was carried out by analysis using FTIR and SEM while the chemical properties of encapsulation obtained the highest yield proportion of 58.81%, and the highest solubility proportion of 98.76%. Anti-inflammatory testing is carried out using male mice as test animals. Anti-inflammatory testing in mice based on the Rat hind paw oedema method. The average percent inhibition of each dose administered is calculated based on the data results. The high average percent inhibition obtained for Diclofenac Na is 80%. In the research Encapsule 1:12, the 120 mg/KgBW dose had a significant percentage of inhibition of 75.55%, with Na Diclofenac dose of 10 mg/KgBW being 80%.
Ecoprint is a technique for printing colors and shapes on fabric using natural materials. Ecoprint techniques have been introduced to junior high school students because they can capture the material ...and teacher's instructions independently, think critically and creatively. The purpose of the ecoprint introduction activity is to provide knowledge about ecoprint and students' skills in utilizing local potential through natural materials or plants around the school. The methods used are lectures, demonstrations, practice, and evaluation. The questionnaires and direct observations on ecoprint products were used as evaluations for this activity. Students have been able to print motifs and colors from leaves and flowers on a cloth to produce ecoprint products according to their respective creativity.
The nanomagnetite/HA-Chitosan adsorbent has been successfully synthesized by the co-precipitation method. HA was synthesized from the peat soils of Geragai village, Tanjung Jabung Timur, Jambi ...province and chitosan isolated from marine animal shell waste around the city of Jambi. The results of FT-IR analysis showed that nanomagnetite/AH-chitosan has a spectra which was combination of the characteristic spectra of magnetite, HA and chitosan. Morphological analysis using SEM showed that nanomagnetite/AH-chitosan was in the form of fractal agglomerates. TEM image of magnetite/AH-chitosan showed that magnetite/AH-chitosan has nano scale magnetite core particles with a size between 4-22 nm. Crystallinity analysis showed that magnetite/AH-chitosan has 2θ characteristics of magnetite i.e., 30.1°, 35.4°, 43.1°, 57.0°, 62.68° and 74.5°. The magnetic saturation strength (Ms) decreased from 80.23 (magnetite) to 30.63 (magnetite/AH-chitosan) due to the coating of AH-chitosan on magnetite which was still effectively attracted by the external magnet with 96% effectiveness of adsorption of 25 mL Methylene Blue 10 mg/L.
Artisanal small-scale gold mining (ASCGM) has caused mercury contamination. However, efforts to decontaminate mercury from the ex-mining soils are still rare. This study aims to synthesize quaternary ...ammonium silica functionalized magnetite (Fe3O4/SAK) as a low price, highly available, and quickly separated adsorbent for mercury decontamination from ex-mining soils samples. The synthesis of Fe3O4/SAK and the mercury decontamination process was carried out by the co-precipitation and batch type reactor procedure, respectively. The Fourier Transform-Infra Red (FT-IR) characterization of synthesized Fe3O4/SAK informed the appearance of siloxane, silanol, methyl, methylene, and Fe-O functional groups. Crystal analysis by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) showed that the typical peaks of SiO2 and Fe3O4 were emerged at 2θ 22.8˚ and 35.52˚, respectively. Morphological studies and elemental analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX) indicated the successful functionalization Fe3O4 by SAK in the transformation of surface morphology and composition of the main elements, namely C, O, Si, and Fe. The results of characterization using Surface Area Analyzer (SAA) showed that the surface area and pore diameters were 224.98 m2/g and 36.149-38.70 Å, respectively. The optimum results for adsorbing Hg22+ metal ions were obtained at pH 4.0, and the adsorbent mass was 0.1 g. The Fe3O4/SAK has been proven to be an easily separable adsorbent after the mercury decontamination process in ex-mining soil samples with an adsorption efficiency of 43.36% (0.722 mg/g).
This research investigates the effectiveness of a project-based learning (PjBL) model integrated with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in enhancing students critical thinking ...and field study skills in Elemental Chemistry. The study aims to assess how this integrated approach influences student learning activities, including engagement with scientific literature, teamwork, cognitive skills enhancement, and the development of teaching materials for independent discovery. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining statistical analysis of quantitative data with qualitative insights from observation sheets, interviews, and student worksheets. The curriculum included soft skill training in sampling teak sawdust (Tectona grandis) and synthesizing oxalic acid, Ca, Ba, and Mg-oxalic compounds in the lab. Results showed significant improvement in student grades in the Elemental Chemistry course, with average scores in the good category ranging from 71.05% to 79.55%, indicating the PjBL model is effective. Furthermore, the development of an Elemental Chemistry learning kit specifically designed for the PjBL approach effectively enhanced student thinking skills, as evidenced by their achievements in STEM-related tasks, highlighting the potential of integrated learning method in improving educational outcomes in higher education chemistry courses.

Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic heavy metal with the active property of reacting with other components so that cadmium residues can quickly enter the food chain and cause cardiovascular, kidney, and cancer ...diseases. The purpose was to synthesize the magnetite mercaptosilicate ion imprinted polymer adsorbent material by forming Ion-Imprinted Polymer as a template, to analyze the characterization results using XRD and SEM-EDS, and to determine the adsorption test results for Cd metal ions. The results of the characterization of XRD show that there is a broad peak at a diffraction angle of 2θ= 20-220 with an amorphous structure, which is silica, and there is a high peak at a diffraction angle of 2θ= 35.55140 which indicates magnetite. The results of SEM analysis with magnifications of 500x, 1000x, and 5000x showed that the surface morphology of the particles was not uniform. For the EDS results, it can be seen that the components of the magnetite mercaptosilicate ion imprinted polymer material are elements C, O, Si, S, and Fe, with a mass percentage of 25.0%; 41.2%; 29.9%; 3.28% and 0.8%. The results of the adsorption test for the Magnetite-IIP-Mercaptosilika Material were able to adsorb Cd ions with the highest adsorption capacity of 10.536 mg/g at a concentration of 100 mg/L. Then the selectivity coefficient value of the Ion Cd metal ion is 2.32 greater than 1, indicating that the selectivity of the magnetite mercaptosilicate ion imprinted polymer material is much higher for Ion Cd metal ions than for Cu and Cr ions with a selectivity coefficient of 0.1 and 0.26.
Platinum is a valuable metal that is widely used in industry, electronics, and catalysts. The use of Platinum has a significant impact on the production of waste, necessitating effective metal ...recovery. This study investigated Platinum (IV) recovery from wastewater using a positively charged and magnetically separable Magnetite/Silica-Ammonium (MSA). The MSA was prepared by co-precipitation procedure of silica-decorated quaternary ammonium in the Fe3+/Fe2+ solution. The characterization result of the MSA by FT-IR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM-EDX, and Vibration Sample Magnetometer (VSM) demonstrated the success of MSA synthesis. The application of MSA to the Pt (IV) solution occurred at pH optimum 6,0 with the easy and quick retraction of MSA-loaded Pt (IV) by 29.3 emu/g magnetic strength of an external magnet. The adsorption isotherm study followed the Freundlich model (R2=0.9895) with the KF=2.57×10-2 mol/g. The monolayer capacity by Langmuir showed the remarkable performance of 139.09 mg/g adsorption capacity through the ion exchange interaction mechanism based on the Dubinin-Radushkevich energy (ED-R=8,3 kJ/mol). The kinetics study was fitted well to the Pseudo-second-order model indicated the fast adsorption of Pt (IV) into the MSA surface.
Hydroxyapatite (HA) is an alloplastic material that is commonly used as a substitute for bone grafts or bone grafts because it has bioactive properties, namely osteoconduction. This study aims to ...improve or develop the function of hydroxyapatite to become a strong and resilient biological device that can withstand loads for appropriate functions such as bone implants. Therefore, it is necessary to modify the structure, among others, by the reinforcement process (composite formation) with other materials.The doping of hydroxyapatite/Al2O3 in this study was carried out using the hydrothermal method. The hydrothermal method is one of the hydroxyapatite synthesis methods carried out at high pressure and temperature to achieve equilibrium. The material used in this study was papai shrimp as a source of calcium. The temperature has an effect in this study where the higher the doping temperature used, the higher the degree of crystallinity, particle size homogeneity, and porosity value. From the doping results, it is known that a temperature of 300°C produces a degree of crystallinity of 54.32% and a crystal size of 3.75 nm with a porosity value of 99.38%. This result is much better than the undoped hydroxyapatite in the previous study.
