This study investigates consumer online purchase intentions in emerging markets by focusing on the impact of country of origin (COO), trust, and satisfaction. The findings emanate from an analysis of ...the online survey completed by 987 Indian online shoppers. The partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) on SmartPLS was used for analyzing the data. The results indicate that COO plays a vital role in influencing online purchase intentions with the mediating effect of trust and satisfaction. The study finds that COO cues enhance consumer trust and satisfaction, thereby leading to purchase intention. The results indicate that online retailers operating in India, originating either from India or developed countries like the USA should use their country brand to build popularity. Furthermore, this study helps to understand the influence of COO on online purchase intentions in an emerging market like India more comprehensively.
•Temporal characterization of marine energy resources, at varying time scales.•Characterized wave, tidal, and ocean currents, and compared to wind and solar.•Data based exposition of grid benefits ...for wave power at high renewable scenarios.•Data based exposition of higher capacity adequacy and stability for wave power.•Detailed discussion on market implications of grid integration of marine energy.
In this paper, the applicability of marine renewable energy (MRE) for potential grid applications is presented. We show that many of the unique value streams from marine-based electricity generation resources stem from their inherent temporal characteristics, especially when compared to wind and solar. Specifically, in this work, we evaluate the timing value for three types of MRE resources: (a) tidal, (b) wave, and (c) ocean currents. First, through a suite of novel metrics, such as resource availability, persistence, and versatility, we evaluate the temporal value characteristics of these resources. Second, through a more grid-oriented numerical study, we comment on the potential ramifications of those temporal characteristics in context of energy balancing and effective load carrying capability for one marine-based resource i.e., wave. Finally, we further our understanding of the relative advantages that may be leveraged by operating wave-based generation in tandem with more established renewable resources, such as wind and solar. Our results indicate that compared to wind and solar, MRE resources are consistently more available and persistent on an hourly level throughout an entire year of operation. In addition, wave resources are also seen to reduce the balancing requirements within the power system. Our work focuses on sites specific to the United States (US) and a parallel study for a location in Great Britain (GB). Results are found to be consistent for sites in both the US and GB, implying that the grid benefits discussed in this work could apply to a number of locations globally.

The urinary bladder primarily functions as a reservoir for urine. Apparently, it serves only a mechanical and passive role in the urinary tract, but closer scrutiny reveals that it has several ...meaningful endocrine interactions. This vital organ has an intricate plexus of neurons that release neurohormones concerned with the functioning of the bladder. Endocrine disorders, most notably diabetes, can cause a broad spectrum of bladder dysfunction. The current review explores the bladder as a source of neurotransmitters, a target for organ damage due to uncontrolled endocrinopathy, a beneficiary of hormonal therapy, and a tool to improve endocrine health.
The practice of endocrinology in South Asia poses many challenges but simultaneously offers unique opportunities. The population in this region is predisposed to diabetes and cardiovascular disease ...at a much lower body mass index compared to Caucasians. Dietary deficiencies, higher prevalence of infection and distinct environmental and genetic factors further complicate the presentation of endocrine disorders. Over the past few decades, important breakthroughs have been made to confront these challenges. Collaboration among the endocrine fraternity of the South Asian countries will help to consolidate these gains and pave the way forward for a healthier region.

Fever is usually thought to be of an infectious or inflammatory etiology. In this brief communication, we explore the multifaceted connections between fever and endocrine dysfunction. Impaired ...resistance to infection often leads to fever in conditions like diabetes and Cushing's syndrome. Additionally, several endocrine disorders, including hyperthyroidism, subacute thyroiditis, carcinoid syndrome, and pheochromocytoma, can manifest as fever. Furthermore, fever can be an adverse effect of various endocrine treatments, such as bisphosphonates and antithyroid drugs. We refer to these scenarios as 'endocrine fever.' Increased awareness of these clinical associations can aid in prompt diagnosis and management of these conditions.
Background: Mechanistically, subcutaneous ultra-rapid lispro (URLi) is faster than lispro. Whether this translates into a better post-prandial glucose (PPG) and glycemic control in type-1 diabetes ...(T1DM) and type-2 diabetes (T2DM) is unclear. Hence, we undertook this meta-analysis. Methods: Databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving patients with T1DM/T2DM receiving URLi in intervention-arm, and placebo/prandial insulin as control. The primary outcome was a change in PPG. Secondary outcomes were alterations in glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), time in range (TIR), and adverse events. Results: Data from six RCTs (3687 patients) were analyzed. Lispro was the control arm in all RCTs. T1DM patients receiving mealtime URLi had lower HbA1c mean difference (MD) −0.07%; 95% confidence interval (CI): −0.12 to − 0.01; P = 0.02; I2 = 42% and 1-h PPG MD − 1.18 mmol/L; 95% CI: −1.91 to − 0.44; P = 0.002; I2 = 100%. T1DM patients receiving post-meal URLi had comparable HbA1c MD 0.07%; 95% CI: −0.01 to 0.15; P = 0.07; I2 = 55% and 1-h PPG MD 0.22 mmol/L; 95% CI: −0.80 to 1.24; P = 0.67; I2 = 100%). T1DM patients on pumps receiving URLi had comparable TIR MD 1.70; 95% CI: −0.29 to 3.69; P = 0.09; I2 = 98%, lower time in blood glucose <3 mmol/L with increased infusion-set reactions. T2DM patients receiving mealtime URLi had lower 1-h PPG MD − 0.66 mmol/L; 95% CI: −0.69 to − 0.63; P < 0.00001; I2 = 0%(LH), 2-h-PPG MD − 0.96 mmol/L; 95% CI: −1.00 to − 0.92; P < 0.00001; I2 = 0%, higher FPG MD 0.18 mmol/L; 95% CI: 0.11–0.24; P < 0.00001; I2 = 20%, and higher HbA1c MD 0.07%; 95% CI: −0.06 to 0.08; P < 0.00001; I2 = 0%. Conclusion: Pre-meal URLi is better than lispro with regard to PPG control. Post-meal URLi is as good as lispro for PPG control. Post-meal URLi is inferior to pre-meal URLi for PPG control.
Prediabetes is a commonly encountered condition that bears a significant risk of progression to diabetes. Obesity has reached pandemic proportions. Hormonal and metabolic imbalances are the key factors that lead to obesity. South Asian populations have a unique phenotype, peculiar dietary practices, and ...a high prevalence of consanguinity. Moreover, many lower middle-income countries lack appropriate resources, super-specialists, and affordability to manage this complex disorder. Of late, there has been a substantial increase in both obesity and diabesity in India. Thus, many more patients are being managed by different types of bariatric procedures today than ever before. These patients have many types of endocrine and metabolic disturbances before and after bariatric surgery. Therefore, these patients should be managed by experts who have knowledge of both bariatric surgery and endocrinology. The authors propose "Barocrinology", a novel terminology in medical literature, to comprehensively describe the field of obesity medicine highlighting the role of knowing endocrine physiology for understating its evolution, insights into its complications and appreciating the changes in the hormonal milieu following weight loss therapies including bariatric surgery. Barocrinology, coined as a portmanteau of "baro" (weight) and endocrinology, focuses upon the endocrine and metabolic domains of weight physiology and pathology. This review summarizes the key pointers of bariatric management from an endocrine perspective.
