This report focuses on the clinical course and treatment of an infant male who had a progressively enlarging tongue mass initially thought to be an infantile hemangioma but was later found to be an ...infantile fibrosarcoma. Treatment included surgical excision with anticipated difficult mask ventilation with active rhino/enterovirus infection bronchiolitis and recent croup. Complete surgical excision is the mainstay of treatment, and the patient did have negative margins after complete surgical re-excision. The patient has surveillance MRI scans and remains without fibrosarcoma recurrence. This case report highlights complex pediatric airway management and the need for vigilance in healthcare when common presentations, such as infantile hemangioma, also present with a concurrent rare disease at a different anatomic location, such as infantile fibrosarcoma in this case.
Purpose:To investigate the oral health needs and comorbidities among patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) undergoing oral rehabilitation under general anesthesia (GA) at a university ...hospital.
Methods: Records of patients with ASD who underwent oral
rehabilitation under GA between January 2016 and May 2019 were reviewed to identify comorbid conditions and oral health needs. Statistical analysis consisted of descriptive and bivariate analyses (alpha = 0.05).
Results:A total of 160 patients from three to 18 years of age
fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Seventy-eight percent were male and 69 percent had public insurance. Be- havioral issues, such as anxiety, aggression and nonverbal status, were observed more frequently than reported in the ASD literature. Dental caries, poor oral hygiene and gingivitis were
the most common dental conditions observed. Radiographs, sealants, stainless steel crowns and extractions were the most common treatments rendered. Bivariate analysis revealed that subjects who had eight to 15 comorbidities were likely to be older.
Conclusions: Patients with
ASD have many dental needs and may have comorbid medical conditions that directly affect the safe delivery of GA and dental treatments. As patients with ASD age, the number of comorbidities increases.
ABSTRACT The 163 comets observed during the WISE/NEOWISE prime mission represent the largest infrared survey to date of comets, providing constraints on dust, nucleus size, and CO + CO2 production. ...We present detailed analyses of the WISE/NEOWISE comet discoveries, and discuss observations of the active comets showing 4.6 m band excess. We find a possible relation between dust and CO + CO2 production, as well as possible differences in the sizes of long and short period comet nuclei.
This work presents improvements to the widely used NREL PVWatts photovoltaic system energy model to improve modeling accuracy for typical fixed and one axis system designs. The aim is to calculate ...losses in the PV system assuming typical modern system design practices, while maintaining simplicity by keeping the required set of input parameters small. These improvements allow users to more credibly and quickly evaluate competing system designs in early stage feasibility. Common submodels for module cover, spectral, snow, tracker, transformer, plant controller, and self-shading losses, in addition to a bifacial gain option, are incorporated into the PVWatts model, and are shown to improve PVWatts' system performance prediction capabilities without major impact to ease of use. We anticipate including these improvements in a future release of NREL's open source PVWatts code, and some of the features may become available in the System Advisor Model (SAM) desktop software as well as the popular PVWatts web application.
For the 30 MWe SEGS VI parabolic trough collector plant, one task of a skilled plant operator is to maintain a specified set point of the collector outlet temperature by adjusting the volume flow ...rate of the heat transfer fluid circulating through the collectors. For the development of next generation SEGS plants and in order to obtain a control algorithm that approximates an operator’s behavior, a linear model predictive controller is developed for use in a plant model. The plant model is discussed first in this work. The performance of the controller is evaluated for a summer and a winter day. The influence of the control on the gross output of the plant is examined as well.

A detailed model for PV plus DC-connected batteries was developed. This model was compared to an existing ACconnected battery model in the System Advisor Model (SAM) tool using a hypothetical ...Honolulu residence with a PV plus storage system. The stand-alone PV system was shown to provide the most value; however due to the increased difficulty of PV systems being approved for grid interconnection in Hawaii, it is valuable to install an AC or DC connected battery to enable full PV self-consumption under a less restrictive interconnection option. In that case both battery systems enabled full PV selfconsumption at the residence, requiring no power to be exported to the grid. The DC-connected battery system captured energy from the PV array which would have also been clipped due to inverter limitations. For a PV system with DC/AC ratio of 1.23, the battery configurations produced net-present values within 1% of each other, but when the DC/AC ratio increased to 1.85, the DC-connected system increased the net-present value by 13%.
