A preshower detector consisting of plastic scintillating plates with optical-fiber readout was tested at the Fermilab meson beamline. The detector was placed at a depth of about 1.5
X
0, followed by ...an electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeter, and exposed to positron, positively charged pion and positive muon beams with energies in the range of 5–227 GeV. Multianode phototubes, HAMAMATSU R5900-M16, were used for the photon readout. The efficiency for detecting two minimum ionizing particles with noise occupancy of <1% was 90–100% for gains of (1–4)×10
5. It was also found that by requiring an appropriately large signal in the preshower detector, the rate of charged pions depositing a large fraction of energy in the electromagnetic calorimeter could be reduced by a factor of 1.4–2.0 (1.4–2.8) while keeping 95% (90%) efficiency for positrons.
We present measurements of the inclusive branching fractions for the decays D+-->Xe+ nu(e) and D0-->Xe+ nu(e), using 281 pb(-1) of data collected on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector. ...We find B(D0-->Xe+ nu(e)) = (6.46+/-0.17+/-0.13)% and B(D+-->Xe+ nu(e)) = (16.13+/-0.20+/-0.33)%. Using the known D meson lifetimes, we obtain the ratio Gamma(D+)sl/Gamma(D0)sl = 0.985+/-0.028+/-0.015, confirming isospin invariance at the level of 3%. The positron momentum spectra from D+ and D0 have consistent shapes.

The LHCb experiment at the LHC plans to massively increase its data taking capabilities by running at a higher luminosity with a fully upgraded detector around 2016. This scheme is independent of ...(but compatible with) the plans for the SLHC upgrades. The silicon detector will be upgraded to provide a 40
MHz readout and to be able to cope with the increased radiation environment. This paper describes the options currently under consideration. A highlight of the R&D so far undertaken is a beam test during summer 2009 using the Timepix chip to track charged particles. Preliminary results are presented, including a measurement of the resolution achieved by the

We report on the calibration and performance of a large lead liquid-argon electromagnetic calorimeter used by experiment E706 at Fermilab. The reconstructed π
0 mass was used to calibrate the energy ...response of the calorimeter. The systematic uncertainty in the linearity and uniformity of the mean-energy response of the calorimeter after calibration was found to be less than ±0.5% for the sample of data analyzed. Detector characteristics, including sampling fluctuations and position resolution, are discussed.
Using data collected with the CLEO III detector at the CESR e+e- collider, we report on a first observation of the decay Upsilon(3S)-->tau+tau-, and precisely measure the ratio of branching fractions ...of Upsilon(nS), n=1, 2, 3, to tau+tau- and mu+mu- final states, finding agreement with expectations from lepton universality. We derive absolute branching fractions for these decays, and also set a limit on the influence of a low mass CP-odd Higgs boson in the decay of the Upsilon(1S).
