The present study was done to isolate and characterize two strains of phosphate solubilizing bacteria from rhizospheres of acacia, sugar beet, and wheat, then determine synergic effects of nanosilica ...and these strains on the vegetative growth of
land cress
plant. Isolates identification was performed using physiological, morphological, biochemical tests, and 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid sequencing. Nanosilica was extracted from
Equisetum telmateia
and characterized via X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, and X-ray fluorescence techniques. The size and the purity of extracted silica powder were about 30 nm, 97.5 %, respectively. Two strains, namely,
Pseudomonas stutzeri
and
Mesorhizobium
sp. were the most efficient strains to grow and solubilize phosphorus in the presence of 860
mM
NaCl and various pH conditions. The highest growth of these two strains was observed at 0.05 and 0.07
ppm
of nanosilica. The highest amount of dry weight of shoot and root of
land cress
plant was recorded with the simultaneous application of these strains in combination with nanosilica. The combination of nanosilica and these strains enhanced the soil nitrogen and phosphorus content and the vegetative growth of
land cress
plant.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women with increasing incidence. Hence, finding a diagnostic factor and/or potential drug target could lead to an earlier diagnosis or a ...more effective therapeutic protocol. It is shown that substance P (SP) through its receptor neurokinin-1 (NK1R) could initiate tumor cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and migration. This was a case–control study on 41 women with breast cancer and 34 healthy controls. Serum level of SP was measured using an ELISA method, and immunohistochemistry staining was performed to study NK1R expression in different cell compartments. Assessing serum SP values of patients showed significantly higher levels than those of healthy individuals. However, no significant correlation was found between SP levels and tumor criteria, but between SP and HER-2. Moreover, the percentage, intensity of staining as well as tissue distribution of NK1R were significantly higher in tumor tissues as compared with controls. Increased serum SP levels and NK1R tissue distribution were observed in patients with breast cancer as compared with their controls, highlighting the involvement of SP/NK1R complex in breast cancer incidence. NK1R profound expression in tumor cell cytoplasm and its significant correlation with the majority of cancer features can be of importance to be taken into consideration as a possible potential therapeutic target in future targeted therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, cytoplasmic expression of NK1R can be suggested as a potent prognostic factor as it has shown significant correlation with TNM and tumor grade.
The crystal structure of Escherichia coli nitrate reductase A (NarGHI) in complex with pentachlorophenol has been determined to 2.0 Å of resolution. We have shown that pentachlorophenol is a potent ...inhibitor of quinol:nitrate oxidoreductase activity and that it also perturbs the EPR spectrum of one of the hemes located in the membrane anchoring subunit (NarI). This new structural information together with site-directed mutagenesis data, biochemical analyses, and molecular modeling provide the first molecular characterization of a quinol binding and oxidation site (Q-site) in NarGHI. A possible proton conduction pathway linked to electron transfer reactions has also been defined, providing fundamental atomic details of ubiquinol oxidation by NarGHI at the bacterial membrane.
Structural studies of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) reductases were hampered by modification of the active site during purification. We report an X-ray absorption spectroscopic analysis of the molybdenum ...active site of Escherichia coli DMSO reductase contained within its native membranes. The enzyme in these preparations is expected to be very close to the form found in vivo. The oxidized active site was found to have four Mo−S ligands at 2.43 Å, one MoO at 1.71 Å, and a longer Mo−O at 1.90 Å. We conclude that the oxidized enzyme is a monooxomolybdenum(VI) species coordinated by two molybdopterin dithiolenes and a serine. The bond lengths determined for E. coli DMSO reductase are very similar to those determined for the well-characterized Rhodobacter sphaeroides DMSO reductase, suggesting similar active site structures for the two enzymes. Furthermore, our results suggest that the form found in vivo is the monooxobis(molybdopterin) species.
The long standing issue of separating resonant from non-resonant processes in extreme nonlinear optics is resolved. The theoretical formalism is applied to high harmonic generation (HHG) in solids ...and reveals a deeper view into the dominant laser and material dependent mechanisms. Mid-infrared driven HHG in semiconductors is dominated by the resonant interband current. As a result of the dynamic Stark shift, virtual processes gain in importance in near-infrared driven HHG in dielectrics. Finally, our analysis identifies limitations of microscopic one-electron-hole theories.
Pulmonary synovial sarcoma is a rare neoplasm recently recognized as a distinct entity and characterized by t(X;18) translocation and production of at least 2 fusion genes, SYT-SSX1 and SYT-SSX2. We ...report a case of primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma with the SYT-SSX2 phenotype and a rapidly progressive downhill course. Previous reports have suggested that the soft tissue synovial sarcomas with SYT-SSX2 phenotype have a favorable clinical outcome. To the best of our knowledge, this is also the first report of CD117 (c-Kit) expression in a pulmonary synovial sarcoma. A 45-year-old woman presented with left chest pain and was found to have a left lower lobe tumor that was originally diagnosed as a sarcomatoid carcinoma. After the patient underwent chemotherapy and brachytherapy, the specimen from a left pneumonectomy showed a large spindle cell tumor, which was reclassified as a synovial sarcoma based on the results of immunophenotyping and molecular genetic studies. Differentiation between sarcoma and carcinosarcoma is crucial for implementing appropriate therapy. Furthermore, if the tumor expresses c-Kit, it may respond to target-based therapy.
