In this work, we want to highlight the potential of lithium as a target for spin-dependent dark matter search in cryogenic experiments, with a special focus on the low-mass region of the parameter ...space. We operated a prototype detector module based on a Formula omitted target crystal in an above-ground laboratory. Despite the high background environment, the detector sets a competitive limit on spin-dependent interactions of dark matter particles with protons and neutrons for masses between Formula omitted and Formula omitted.
Localization and modeling of radioactive contaminations is a challenge that ultra-low background experiments are constantly facing. These are fundamental steps both to extract scientific results and ...to further reduce the background of the detectors. Here we present an innovative technique based on the analysis of

U decay chains, developed to investigate the contaminations of the ZnSe crystals in the CUPID-0 experiment. This method allows to disentangle surface and bulk contaminations of the detectors relying on the different probability to tag delayed coincidences as function of the

Abstract
American states differ in their protection of workers, acceptance of organized labor, dominant industrial cultures, and regarding labor unions’ capacity and political power. In this article, ...I examine declining union membership in the states and analyze various laws that limit the political power of unions and assess the consequences of these developments. I also document and explain a recent resurgence of labor organizing, political resistance, and work stoppages. There is a seeming contradiction between a labor movement that is both declining as well as gaining strength. However, a common theme in each of these trends is the centrality of state governments and politics regarding labor policy and union influence.
We evaluated outcomes with the sirolimus (SRL) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) combination regimen (SRL/MMF) in solitary kidney transplant recipients transplanted between 2000 and 2005 reported to ...the Scientific Registry of Renal Transplant Recipients. Three‐and‐a‐half percent received SRL/MMF (n = 2040). Six‐month acute rejection rates were higher with SRL/MMF (SRL/MMF: 16.0% vs. other regimens: 11.2%, p < 0.001). Overall graft survival was significantly lower on SRL/MMF. SRL/MMF was associated with twice the hazard for graft loss (AHR = 2.0, 95% C.I., 1.8, 2.2) relative to TAC/MMF, also consistent in both living donor transplants (AHR = 2.4, 95% C.I., 1.9, 2.9) and expanded criteria donor transplants (AHR = 2.1, 95% C.I., 1.7–2.5). Among deceased donor transplants, DGF rates were higher in the SRL/MMF cohort (47% vs. 27%, p < 0.001). However, adjusted graft survival was also significantly inferior with SRL/MMF in DGF‐free patients (AHR = 1.9, 95% C.I., 1.6–2.3). In analyses restricted to patients who remained on the discharge regimen at 6 months posttransplant, conditional graft survival in deceased donor transplants was significantly lower with SRL/MMF compared to patients on TAC/MMF or CsA/MMF regimens at 5 years posttransplant (64%, 78%, 78%, respectively, p = 0.001) and across all patient subgroups. In conclusion, SRL/MMF is associated with inferior renal transplant outcomes compared with other commonly used regimens.
Retrospective analysis of SRTR recipients receiving sirolimus plus mycophenolate revealed that, compared with other commonly used regimens, this combination was associated with higher rejection rates and lower graft survival, as well as increased delayed graft function in deceased donor transplants.

The results verify our understanding of the background sources in CUORE-0, which is the basis of extrapolations to the full CUORE detector. The obtained energy resolution (full width at half maximum) in the region of interest is
5.7

. Based on the measured background rate and energy resolution in the region of interest, CUORE-0 half-life sensitivity is expected to surpass the observed lower bound of Cuoricino with one year of live time.
Summary
Literature reports describe kiwi fruit as a food with significant effects on human health, including anti‐oxidant and anti‐inflammatory activity. Fresh fruit or raw kiwi fruit extracts have ...been used so far to investigate these effects, but the molecule(s) responsible for these health‐promoting activities have not yet been identified. Kissper is a kiwi fruit peptide displaying pore‐forming activity in synthetic lipid bilayers, the composition of which is similar to that found in intestinal cells. The objective of this study was to investigate the kissper influence on intestinal inflammation using cultured cells and ex‐vivo tissues from healthy subjects and Crohn's disease (CD) patients. The anti‐oxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties of kissper were tested on Caco‐2 cells and on the colonic mucosa from 23 patients with CD, by challenging with the lipopolysaccharide from Escherichia coli (EC‐LPS) and monitoring the appropriate markers by Western blot and immunofluorescence. EC‐LPS challenge determined an increase in the intracellular concentration of calcium and reactive oxygen species (ROS). The peptide kissper was highly effective in preventing the increase of LPS‐induced ROS levels in both the Caco‐2 cells and CD colonic mucosa. Moreover, it controls the calcium increase, p65‐nuclear factor (NF)‐kB induction and transglutaminase 2 (TG2) activation inflammatory response in Caco‐2 cells and CD colonic mucosa. Kissper efficiently counteracts the oxidative stress and inflammatory response in valuable model systems consisting of intestinal cells and CD colonic mucosa. This study reports the first evidence supporting a possible correlation between some beneficial effects of kiwi fruit and a specific protein molecule rather than generic nutrients.
Recent demonstrations of growing economic inequality in the United States raise normative concerns about the political representation of all but the very wealthiest citizens. Building on existing ...cross-national work on the roles of unions in welfare states, I provide evidence that organized labor, as a political institution, limits unequal income distributions in the U.S. states. The states are useful to our understanding of labor’s influence on inequality as states differ in their acceptance of labor unions, base levels of inequality, political preferences, industries, and levels of development but are all nested within a single overarching national framework. Over the 39-year period examined, states where unions maintain more members remain more equal within the labor market and after redistribution via government transfer. These effects persist after accounting for state-level policy, demography, and economic conditions. However, states where union membership has the largest influence on inequality have also seen growing attempts to reduce unionization rates. Overall, I find that unions are still able to limit the growth of economic inequality in spite of declining levels of union membership.
