We have examined the spin structure of the proton in the region of the nucleon resonances (1.085 GeV < W < 1.910 GeV) at an average four momentum transfer of Q^2 = 1.3 GeV^2. Using the Jefferson Lab ...polarized electron beam, a spectrometer, and a polarized solid target, we measured the asymmetries A_parallel and A_perp to high precision, and extracted the asymmetries A_1 and A_2, and the spin structure functions g_1 and g_2. We found a notably non-zero A_perp, significant contributions from higher-twist effects, and only weak support for polarized quark--hadron duality.
Phys.Rev.C73:044607,2006 A pioneering experiment in Lambda hypernuclear spectroscopy, undertaken at
the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jlab), was recently
reported. The experiment ...used the high- precision, continuous electron beam at
Jlab, and a special arrangement of spectrometer magnets to measure the spectrum
from {nat}C and 7Li targets using the (e,e' K+)reaction. The 12B hypernuclear
spectrum was previously published. This experiment is now reported in more
detail, with improved results for the 12B hypernuclear spectrum. In addition,
unpublished results of the 7He hypernuclear spectrum are also shown. This later
spectrum indicates the need for a more detailed few-body calculation of the
hypernucleus and the reaction process. The success of this experiment
demonstrates that the (e,e'K+) reaction can be effectively used as a high
resolution tool to study hypernuclear spectra, ant its use should be vigorously
pursued.
The differential cross section for D( gamma,d)(pi)0 has been measured at deuteron center-of-mass angles of 90z and 136z. This work reports the first data for this reaction above a photon energy of 1 ...GeV, and permits a test of the apparent constituent counting rule and reduced nuclear amplitude behavior as observed in elastic ed scattering.
We report the results about chestnuts harvested by two different machines (Perla 55 and Cimina). Chestnuts were analyzed at harvest time and during the mid term storage. Thanks to the modifications ...introduced at the end of the first year of experimentation, no quality differences between the mechanical and hand harvested chestnuts were found. We evaluated the breakeven point for harvesting costs at 10 ha
A prototype of the multiwire drift chambers to be used in the high-momentum spectrometer (HMS) at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) has been designed and constructed. The ...prototype chamber has been tested recently in a 150-MeV pi /sup +/ beam with good results. The prototype chamber has 6 planes with a resolution per plane of about 94+or-11 mu m (sigma). This resolution is relatively constant up to 2 kHz wire/sup -1/ mm/sup -1/. The design of the full-sized HMS drift chambers has been finalized, based upon the work reported here.< >
