Infrared-to-visible upconverters converting low-energy infrared to higher-energy visible light without bringing in complicated readout integrated circuits have triggered enormous excitement. However, ...existing upconverters suffer from limited sensing wavelengths, low photon-to-photon (p–p) efficiency, and high minimum detectable infrared power. Here, we reported the colloidal quantum-dot (CQD) upconverters with unprecedented performance. By using HgTe CQDs as the sensing layer, the operation spectral ranges of the upconverters are, for the first time, extended to short-wave infrared. More importantly, the resistance-area products of the HgTe CQD photodetectors are carefully optimized by interface engineering to match with the visible light-emitting diodes so that the quantum efficiency and sensitivity of upconverters can be maximized. The integrated upconverters demonstrate a high p–p efficiency of nearly 30% and a low detection limit down to 20 μW cm–2.
•A trap-mode PbSe mid-infrared photodetector with decreased-temperature processing method.•PbSe sensitization by introducing PbI2 treated PbSe CQDs.
In this paper, we investigate a trap-mode PbSe ...mid-infrared photodetector with decreased-temperature processing method. Usual PbSe mid-infrared photodetectors need the sensitization process requiring a high temperature of 300–600 °C in oxygen-rich and iodine-rich atmospheres, which would damage the silicon-based readout integrated circuits chip. In this work, we demonstrate a new method for PbSe sensitization at a mild temperature of 170 °C, by introducing PbI2 treated PbSe CQDs. Compared with the untreated PbSe photodetector, the response speed and the photocurrent-dark current ratio of the trap-mode PbSe photodetector are improved by 13–15 times and 2–3 times, respectively. The effects of annealing temperature, content of PbI2, and deposition time of PbSe bulk film on the photocurrent-dark current ratio and response speed of trap-mode PbSe photodetectors are also discussed.
Background:
To investigate the association between sepsis and the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms.
Methods:
Databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMbase, CNKI, Wanfang Data, and ...VIP Data were systematically searched. The association was assessed using odds ratios (ORs), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The statistical tests were performed using Review Manager 5.4.
Results:
We identified a total of 5 studies. The relationship between VDR gene polymorphisms (Apa I, Bsm I, Taq I, and Fok I), and incidence of sepsis was investigated. The results of this meta-analysis showed that the allelic contrast model (F vs f,
P
= .03, OR = 0.65, 95% CI = 0.44–0.95), dominant genetic model (FF vs Ff + ff,
P
= .02, OR = 0.53, 95% CI = 0.30–0.91), and codominance genetic model (FF vs ff,
P
= .03, OR = 0.39, 95% CI = 0.16–0.91) of VDR Fok I locus increased the risk of sepsis, and the lack of association between the VDR Fok I gene polymorphism and the risk assessment of sepsis, based on the ethnic subgroup analysis, might be attributable to the small sample size. The risk of sepsis with Apa I, Bsm I, and Taq I did not appear to be correlated.
Conclusion subsections:
This meta-analysis revealed that the VDR Fok I polymorphism is closely associated with the susceptibility to sepsis, and patients with sepsis have lower 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels. VDR Fok I gene mutations may change the risk of sepsis.
The etiology of premature ovarian failure (POF) is mainly related to inflammatory diseases, autoimmune diseases, and tumor radiotherapy and chemotherapy; however, its specific pathogenesis has not ...been clarified. Vitamin D (VD), a fat-soluble vitamin, is an essential steroid hormone in the human body. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are meshwork structures that are formed when neutrophils are stimulated by inflammation and other factors and are closely associated with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Notably, VD inhibits NET formation and intervenes in the development of POF in terms of inflammatory and immune responses, oxidative stress, and tissue fibrosis. Therefore, this study aimed to theorize the relationship between NETs, VD, and POF and provide new ideas and targets for the pathogenesis and clinical treatment of POF.
With high quantum efficiency, unique bandgap, and narrow emission band, all-inorganic CsPbI3 halide perovskite nanocrystals have been widely acknowledged as competitive candidates for pure red ...light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, the large-scale manufacturing and stability of CsPbI3 perovskites are the main obstacles for practical LEDs. In this work, by Mg2+/Yb3+ codoping, we successfully improve the luminous intensity (192%) in an ambient environment. What is more, these ionic doped CsPbI3 perovskite nanocrystals are thermally stable at 120 °C. Based on these perovskite nanocrystals, we also fabricate large-scale patterned LEDs (25.4 × 25.4 mm). At a bias voltage of 6 V, the fabricated LEDs exhibit a luminance of 749 cd m–2. At a current density of 6.4 mA cm–2, the fabricated LEDs achieved an external quantum efficiency of 10.9%. This result is expected to fuel the rapid growth of large-area pure red LEDs.
To prove that serum vitamin D (VD) levels are strongly associated with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) disease activity, the association between serum VD levels and key monitoring indicators of AS ...disease activity has been analyzed, such as the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-reactive protein (CRP).
Studies published in PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure by August 30, 2022 were searched, and 6 studies finally met the selection criteria. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), ESR, CRP levels, and correlation coefficients between serum VD and BASDAI, ESR, CRP in AS, and control in these studies were extracted for the meta-analysis.
When compared to controls, patients with AS had considerably lower blood 25(OH)D levels (MD = -7.53 ng/mL, 95% CI, -9.78 to -5.28, P < .001) and significantly higher ESR and CRP levels (ESR: MD = 11.75 mm/h, 95% CI, 4.20 to 19.31, P = .002; CRP: MD = 15.36 mg/L, 95% CI, 4.95 to 25.77, P = .004). Additionally, a negative correlation was discovered between serum VD levels and BASDAI, ESR, and CRP (Fisher' Z = -0.34, -0.38, -0.35, respectively).
The findings of our meta-analysis demonstrated a negative correlation between serum VD levels and the main monitoring indices of disease activity in patients with AS and verified that the differences in the continent and ethnicity may be one of the major contributors to this finding.

•Graded porous scaffold with ultrahigh pore connectivity was designed and fabricated.•Mg2+ doping enhanced angiogenesis, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterium in vitro.•The developed ...product promoted tissue integration for in-situ orbital reconstruction.•The developed product surpassed the clinically available orbital implants.
Losing an eye to various reasons at any age may have a major impact on one’s self-image, except for requiring to adapt monocular vision. The conventional metal oxide or polymer implants for orbital reconstruction, involving the vulnerable postoperative administration (migration, exposure), are always challenged due to deficiency of some critical efficacy attainability. While coralline hydroxyapatite ceramics offer alternatives, they come with the insufficient infection prevention and tailor-made manufacture. This underscores the insistent need for personized multifunctional orbital materials. In this context, the functional orbital implants are emerging as a promising solution for orbital reconstruction, especially accompanying with self-antibacterial and sufficient integration with host tissue. Herein we developed the porous Ca-Zn-silicate bioceramic implants to seamlessly adapt to the clinical tailor-made requirements. Our study introduced the dilute magnesium dopant into hardystonite (Ca2ZnSi2O7; HT) bioceramic and fabricated precisely tuning gradient pore architectures (Triply radial structures) via digital light processing technique. Notably, benefiting from its gradient pore topologies and chemical compositions, our investigations unveiled the proposed HT-based implants containing 4 %Mg substitution yielded desirable surface reactivity, affording prominent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and rapid vascularization (within 2 weeks after implantation), in comparison to the clinically available polymeric or bioceramic products (MEDPOR® & Hydroxyapatite®). Beyond this, our multifunctional implants exhibited exceptional structural stability and biocompatibility in vitro and in vivo. Given these impressive attributes, our findings hold promising potential in revolutionizing the field of orbital reconstruction medicine, offering the next-generation advanced silicate bioceramics for crafting personizing and precise implantation strategy.
•Children from low socioeconomic status (SES) families exhibit high anxiety mediated by increased parental anxiety.•Children from low SES families exhibit an increase in pre-bedtime cortisol but a ...decrease in cortisol awakening response.•The relationship between low SES and altered HPA-axis integrity in children is mediated by parental and child anxiety.
Socioeconomic status (SES) disparities have profound impacts on child development and health, which are linked to negative emotions and alterations in the integrity of stress-sensitive hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA)-axis system. However, its underlying psychophysiological mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here we investigate how family SES, in concert with parental anxiety, affects children’s anxiety and their integrity of HPA-axis system in two studies involving a total of 1318 children and their parents. In Study 1 with a cohort of 1088 children and their parents, we found that low-SES children relative to high-SES ones experienced a higher level of anxiety mediated by increasing parental anxiety. In Study 2 with an independent cohort of 230 children and their parents, we found that low-SES children exhibited an increase in pre-bedtime basal cortisol but a decrease in cortisol awakening response (CAR). Structural equation modeling (SEM) further revealed that the association between low SES and children’s reduced CAR was mediated by increased parental and child anxiety. Our findings suggest that low-SES children are more vulnerable to anxiety and altered HPA-axis integrity, most likely mediated through increased parental anxiety.
