The oral lichenoid disease (OLD) includes different chronic inflammatory processes such as oral lichen planus (OLP) and oral lichenoid lesions (OLL), both entities with controversial diagnosis and ...malignant potential. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EFGR) is an important oral carcinogenesis biomarker and overexpressed in several oral potentially malignant disorders.
To analyze the EGFR expression in the OLD to find differences between OLP and OLL, and to correlate it with the main clinical and pathological features.
Forty-four OLD cases were studied and classified according to their clinical (Group C1: only papular lesions / Group C2: papular and other lesions) and histopathological features (Group HT: OLP-typical / Group HC: OLP-compatible) based in previous published criteria. Standard immunohistochemical identification of EGFR protein was performed. Comparative and descriptive statistical analyses were performed.
Thirty-five cases (79.5%) showed EGFR overexpression without significant differences between clinical and histopathological groups (p<0.05). Histological groups showed significant differences in the EGFR expression pattern (p=0.016). Conlusions: All OLD samples showed high EGFR expression. The type of clinical lesion was not related with EGFR expression; however, there are differences in the EGFR expression pattern between histological groups that may be related with a different biological profile and malignant risk.
A study of indirect CP violation in D0 mesons through the determination of the parameter AΓ is presented using a data sample of pp collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 ...fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector and recorded at the center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC. The parameter AΓ is the asymmetry of the effective lifetimes measured in decays of D0 and D0 mesons to the CP eigenstates K- K+ and π- π+. Fits to the data sample yield AΓ(KK)=(-0.35±0.62±0.12)×10(-3) and AΓ(ππ)=(0.33±1.06±0.14)×10(-3), where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results represent the world's best measurements of these quantities. They show no difference in AΓ between the two final states and no indication of CP violation.
The kinematic dependences of the relative production rates, $f_{\Lambda_b^0}/f_d$, of $\Lambda_b^0$ baryons and $\bar{B}^0$ mesons are measured using $\Lambda_b^0 \rightarrow \Lambda_c^+ \pi^-$ and ...$\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow D^+ \pi^-$ decays. The measurements use proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb$^{-1}$ at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, recorded in the forward region with the LHCb experiment. The relative production rates are observed to depend on the transverse momentum, $p_T$, and pseudorapidity, $\eta$, of the beauty hadron, in the studied kinematic region $1.5 < p_T < 40$ GeV/$c$ and $2 < \eta < 5$. Using a previous LHCb measurement of $f_{\Lambda_b^0}/f_d$ in semileptonic decays, the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_b^0 \rightarrow \Lambda_c^+ \pi^-) = \Big( 4.30 \pm 0.03 \,\, ^{+0.12}_{-0.11} \pm 0.26 \pm 0.21 \Big) \times 10^{-3}$ is obtained, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, the third is from the previous LHCb measurement of $f_{\Lambda_b^0}/f_d$ and the fourth is due to the $\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow D^+ \pi^-$ branching fraction. This is the most precise measurement of a $\Lambda_b^0$ branching fraction to date.
The CP-violating asymmetry a_{sl}^s is studied using semileptonic decays of Bs and anti-Bs mesons produced in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC, exploiting a data sample ...corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0/fb. The reconstructed final states are Ds^(+/-)\mu ^(-/+), with the Ds^(+/-) particle decaying in the \phi\pi^(+/-) mode. The Ds^(+/-)\mu ^{-/+) yields are summed over Bs and anti-Bs initial states, and integrated with respect to decay time. Data-driven methods are used to measure efficiency ratios. We obtain $a_{sl}^s$ = (-0.06 +/- 0.50 +/- 0.36)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
Methode. In einer vergleichenden Analyse zur Effizienz von 4 Antibiotikagaben zur Infektionsprophylaxe nach aseptischen Operationen ohne Fremdkörperimplantation wurden 140 Patienten in 4 Gruppen ...eingeteilt. Amoxicillin-Ac.-Clavulanic i. v. wurde in Gruppe 1 präoperativ in einer 1-maligen Dosis, in Gruppe 2 5 Tage lang verabreicht. Cefazolin wurde in Gruppe 3 als 1-malige Tagesdosis, in Gruppe 4 5 Tage lang als Tagesdosis gegeben. Ergebnisse. Die Ergebnisse waren in allen 4 Gruppen identisch. Diskussion. Die Therapie mit der "single dose" ist preiswerter, bequemer zu applizieren, und mit einem minimalen Risiko der Antibiotikaresistenzbildung verbunden. Die Behandlung mit Cefazolin ist preiswerter als die mit Amoxicillin-Ac.-Clavulanic. Zur Infektionsprophylaxe empfehlen wir präoperativ bei Erwachsenen die 1-malige Dosis von 2 g Cefazolin i. v. Methods. This study evaluates the clinical efficiency of four regimens of antibiotic prophylaxis against wound infection in aseptic oral and maxillofacial surgery that does not involve implantation of foreign material and included 140 adult patients randomly distributed into four groups. Patients from two groups received prophylactic amoxicillin/clavulanate in a single-dose regimen or a 5-day regimen, respectively. Subjects from the other two groups received cefazolin in a single-dose regimen or a 5-day regimen, respectively. Results. Clinical prophylactic efficiency proved to be equal for the four types of antibiotic regimens. Discussion. Single-dose regimens are more economical, easier to administer, and carry a lower risk of inducing bacterial resistance. Amoxicillin/clavulanate is more expensive than cefazolin. For aseptic maxillofacial surgery that does not involve implantation of foreign material, we recommend preoperative single-dose antibiotic prophylaxis with cefazolin 2 g i.v. The \CP-violating charge asymmetry in $B^{\pm}\rightarrow \phi K^{\pm}$ decays is measured in a sample of $pp$ collisions at 7 TeV centre-of-mass energy, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of ...1.0 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment. The result is $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(B^{\pm}\rightarrow \phi K^{\pm}) = \rm 0.022\pm 0.021 \pm 0.009$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. In addition, a search for the $B^{\pm}\rightarrow \phi \pi^{\pm}$ decay mode is performed, using the $B^{\pm}\rightarrow \phi K^{\pm}$ decay rate for normalization. An upper limit on the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(B^{\pm}\rightarrow \phi \pi^{\pm})< 1.5\times 10^{-7}$ is set at 90% confidence level.
A search for the rare decays $B^0_s \to\mu^+\mu^-$ and $B^0 \to\mu^+\mu^-$ is performed at the LHCb experiment. The data analysed correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ ...collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and 2 fb$^{-1}$ at 8 TeV. An excess of $B^0_s \to\mu^+\mu^-$ signal candidates with respect to the background expectation is seen with a significance of 4.0 standard deviations. A time-integrated branching fraction of ${\cal B}(B^0_s \to\mu^+\mu^-) = (2.9^{+1.1}_{-1.0})\times 10^{-9}$ is obtained and an upper limit of ${\cal B}(B^0 \to\mu^+\mu^-) < 7.4\times 10^{-10}$ at 95% confidence level is set. These results are consistent with the Standard Model expectations.
