The silicon vertex detector (SVD) is a four-layer double-sided strip detector installed at the heart of the Belle II experiment, taking data at the high-luminosity B-Factory SuperKEKB since 2019. SVD ...has been operating smoothly and reliably, showing a stable and above-99% hit efficiency, and a large signal-to-noise ratio in all sensors. In June 2022 the data-taking of the Belle II experiment was stopped for the Long Shutdown 1, primarily required to complete the vertex detector (VXD) with the inner two-layer DEPFET detector and to upgrade several components of the accelerator. This article reports on the excellent performance of SVD in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio, the hit position resolution, as well as the hit-time resolution. We briefly describe the challenges and delicate phases of the VXD re-installation and the SVD status for operation starting in early 2024. In SVD layer 3, which is closest to the interaction point, the average occupancy has been less 0.5%, well below the estimated limit for acceptable tracking performance. However, higher machine backgrounds are expected at increased luminosity, and so also increased hit occupancy. To enhance the robustness of offline software in a high-background environment, new algorithms of background suppression using the excellent SVD hit-time information have been developed, which allows a significant reduction of the fake rate, while preserving the tracking efficiency.
With the increasing luminosity also the radiation levels are expected to increase, with possible deterioration of the sensor performance. The SVD integrated dose is estimated by the correlation of the SVD occupancy with the dose rate measured by the diamonds of the radiation monitor and beam-abort system.
The effects of radiation damage are starting and in good agreement with our expectations. So far, no harmful impact due to the radiation damage on the detector performance has been observed.
Cupriavidus pauculus is a Gram negative rod that is usually isolated in water and has been extraordinarily isolated in patients with vascular access and / or immunosuppression. In this work we ...present a series of cases of patients with positive blood cultures for cupríavidus pauculus, during a short period of time in our hospital center. The only characteristic related to all cases was the use of parenteral nutrition. It highlights the rareness of the microorganism and the susceptibility identified in the antibiogram, which may be useful for future cases.
The aim of this study was to investigate the viability of Pediococcus acidilactici ATCC 8042 and Lactobacillus plantarum ATCC 8014 in a freeze-dried capsules system prepared with sodium alginate and ...gum arabic using the extrusion technique. The capsules made with alginate 2% (w/v)/gum arabic 2% (w/v) showed higher hardness (7.12 ± 0.71 N), with highly cohesive (0.81 ± 0.02) and elastic (0.99 ± 0.00) features on the Texture Profile Analysis (TPA), as well as higher sphericity with 1.75 ± 0.12 mm y 1.73 ± 0.13 mm diameter axes and regularity in their surface by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The use of skimmed milk at 10% as a cryoprotector in the freeze-drying process allowed the obtention of high viability percentages (88% a 96%) for both strains. Best results of viability for P. acidilactici encapsulated was with the use of alginate 2% (w/v)/gum arabic 2% (w/v) (92%±2.65), and L. plantarum with the use of alginate 2% (w/v) (84.71%±10.33) during the gastrointestinal environment challenge.
In this study, an immunoproteomic approach was used to identify immunodominant proteins from Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri isolates. Membrane proteins, extracted through TX-114 phase partitioning, ...were separated using mono- and two-dimensional electrophoresis and detected by Western blotting with pooled sera from naturally infected goats. A total of 27 immunoreactive spots, corresponding to 13 different proteins, were identified using nanoLC–ESI-MSMS. Function annotation revealed that most of these proteins were metabolic enzymes involved in carbohydrate and energy metabolism. The immunogenic proteins identified in this study: pyruvate dehydrogenase, dihydrolipoamide acetyltransferase, dihydrolipoyl dehydrogenase, phosphate acetyltransferase, phosphopyruvate hydratase, adenine phopshoribosyltransferase, transketolase, translation elongation factor G, translation elongation factor Ts, FMN-dependent NADH-azoreductase, peptide methionine sulfoxide reductase, inorganic diphosphatase and trigger factor may be used as biomarkers for the serological diagnosis of contagious agalactia caused by M. mycoides subsp. capri.
Aims
To determine the impact of hypothyroidism on the bladder and urethral functions as well as in the activation of the pubococcygeous (Pcm) and bulbospongiosus (Bsm) during micturition.
Methods
...Age‐matched control and methimazole‐induced hypothyroid female rabbits were used to simultaneously record cystometrograms, urethral pressure, and the reflex activation of Pcm and Bsm during the induced micturition. Urodynamic and urethral variables were measured. Activation or no activation of the Pcm and Bsm during the storage and voiding phases of micturition were categorized as 1 or 0. Significant differences (P ≤ 0.05) between control and hypothyroid groups were determined with unpaired Student‐t or Mann‐Whitney tests.
Results
One‐month induced hypothyroidism increased the residual volume and threshold pressure while the opposite was true for the voided volume, maximal pressure, and voiding efficiency. Urethral pressure was also affected as supported by a notorious augmentation of the urethral resistance, among other changes in the rest of measured variables. Hypothyroidism also affected the reflex activation of the Pcm in the voiding phase of micturition.
Conclusions
Our findings demonstrate hypothyroidism impairs the bladder and, urethral functions, and reflex activation of Pcm and Bsm affecting the micturition in female rabbits.

The Belle II experiment is taking data at the asymmetric SuperKEKB collider (KEK, Japan), which operates at the Υ(4S) resonance. The vertex detector is composed of an inner two-layer pixel detector ...(PXD) and the silicon vertex detector (SVD), made of four layers of double-sided silicon strip detectors. A deep knowledge of the system has been gained since the start of operations in 2019 by assessing the high-quality and stable reconstruction performance of the detector. The very high hit efficiency and large signal-to-noise ratio are monitored via online data-quality plots. The good cluster-position resolution is estimated using the unbiased residual with respect to the track, and it is in reasonable agreement with the expectations. The SVD dose is estimated by the correlation of the SVD occupancy with the dose measured by the diamond sensors of the radiation-monitoring and beam-abort system. First radiation damage effects are measured on the sensor current and strip noise are shown not to affect the performance. Six samples of the shaped particle signal are recorded utilizing the multi-peak mode of the APV25 front-end chip and used to determine the hit timing with a precision of 2 to 3 ns. Recently a method to compute the time of collision from SVD hit time information has been implemented and verified with simulations and on data.
The packaging nets used for bell peppers act as a form of protection. However, the manufacturing is based on polymers that cause serious environmental problems. The effects of nets made of ...biodegradable materials, such as poly(lactic) acid (PLA), poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT), and cactus stem residues, were evaluated on four different colors of 'California Wonder' bell peppers stored over a 25-day storage period under controlled and ambient temperature conditions. Compared to commercial polyethylene nets, the bell peppers kept in the biodegradable nets did not show notable differences with respect to color, weight loss, total soluble solids, and titratable acidity. However, there were significant differences (
< 0.05) in terms of phenol content, carotenoids (orange bell peppers), anthocyanins, and vitamin C, with an overall tendency to show a higher content in those kept in PLA 60%/PBTA 40%/cactus stem flour 3% compared to commercial packaging. In addition, the same net notably reduced the development of bacteria, fungi, and yeasts during the storage of red, orange, and yellow bell peppers. As postharvest packaging for bell peppers, this net could be considered a viable option for the storage of this product.

We present the novel implementation of a non-differentiable metric approximation and a corresponding loss-scheduling aimed at the search for new particles of unknown mass in high energy physics ...experiments. We call the loss-scheduling, based on the minimisation of a figure-of-merit related function typical of particle physics, a Punzi-loss function, and the neural network that utilises this loss function a Punzi-net. We show that the Punzi-net outperforms standard multivariate analysis techniques and generalises well to mass hypotheses for which it was not trained. This is achieved by training a single classifier that provides a coherent and optimal classification of all signal hypotheses over the whole search space. Our result constitutes a complementary approach to fully differentiable analyses in particle physics. We implemented this work using PyTorch and provide users full access to a public repository containing all the codes and a training example.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented disruptions to healthcare, including direct impacts on service delivery related to autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Caregiver-mediated tele-assessment ...offers an opportunity to continue services while adhering to social distancing guidelines. The present study describes a model of tele-assessment for ASD in young children, implemented in direct response to disruptions in care caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We present preliminary data on the outcomes and provider perceptions of tele-assessments, together with several lessons learned during the period of initial implementation.
