Purpose: Their production processes involve several risks and repetitive tasks and adoption of penalizing postures, which can cause musculoskeletal disorders and occupational accidents. The objective ...of this paper is to elucidate the situation of Occupational Health and Safety in the automotive sector in the Agulhas Negras region and in Brazil.
Methodology/Approach: For this bibliographic research was carried out to characterize and define the processes and concepts pertinent to the economic activities of the sector; collect and treat the most frequently registered data and elaborate a comparative study for better visualization of the scenarios.
Findings: The result was the identification of different behaviours of the curves, which showed the national scenario being linear and constant, while the regional one proved to be unstable, with many variations over the years.
Research Limitation/Implication: The research was developed in a region of the State of Rio de Janeiro, and it is recommended to conduct a global survey.
Originality/Value of paper: The analysis of the characteristics of occupational accidents, with the most frequent type of injury, the most affected body parts, the groups of causative agents, and the most notified occupations in accidents.
Angina bullosa haemorrhagica (ABH) is characterized by the recurrent appearance of blood blisters on the oral mucosa, mainly in adults' soft palate. In general, the blisters rupture spontaneously, ...lacking the necessity for biopsy. We report the clinical features of 23 ABH cases, emphasizing the clinical behavior and the management of these conditions.
A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was performed. A total of 12,727 clinical records of oral and maxillofacial lesions from four dental services in Brazil were analyzed. Clinical data were collected from the clinical records and evaluated.
The series comprised 12 males (52.2%) and 11 females (47.8%), with a mean age of 56.8 ± 14.6 years (ranging: 24-82 years) and a 1.1:1 male-to-female ratio. Most of the lesions affected the soft palate (n = 15, 65.2%). Clinically, the lesions presented mainly as an asymptomatic (n = 17, 73.9%) blood-filled blister that ruptured after a few minutes or hours, leaving an erosion. The masticatory trauma was the most frequent triggering event. No patient had coagulation disorders. A biopsy was performed in only four cases (17.4%). Treatment was symptomatic with a favorable outcome.
ABH is still poorly documented in the literature, and its etiology remains uncertain. ABH mainly affects the soft palate of elderly adults and has a favorable evolution in a few days. The therapeutic approach is often focused only on the relief of symptoms. However, it can share some clinical features with more serious diseases. Therefore, clinicians must recognize these lesions to avoid misdiagnosis.
This article aims to analyze the levels of waste of components used in destructive testing for releasing the assembly line of an automotive parts factory. In this way, it aims to apply an improvement ...that involves the reduction of the amount of parts destroyed daily, consequently reducing their monthly costs. For this, based on the case study methodology, the percentages of discard in relation to sales of all parts currently produced were surveyed, in order to identify the line that has more discarded components and, from this, to analyze the waste factors, based on the Lean Manufacturing concepts. After the waste analysis and the application of process improvement, there was a reduction in the cost of parts for destruction. The cost, which was 0.71% of the total monthly sales, became 0.19%.
Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant initiated a large reforestation programme after the expropriation of the areas destined for the formation of the reservoir. This study aimed to evaluate the ...effectiveness of forest restoration of the Seasonal Semideciduous Forest in the Upper Paraná Atlantic Forest ecoregion, Brazil, using epigaeic ant assemblages as bioindicators, by comparing ant species richness and composition in the Reservoir Protection Strip with adjacent areas, such as the primary forest of the Iguaçu National Park and the Permanent Preservation Area located on a rural property and agricultural areas. In total, 171 ant species were identified. Ant species richness was higher in forest than in agricultural areas and did not differ among forest areas. However, ant species composition in forest areas, regardless of the restoration technique used, was not similar to the primary forest, possibly due to variation in forest recovery time. This study highlights the great value of the Iguaçu National Park as a conservation unit. Also, it reveals that the efforts for the creation and maintenance of the Reservoir Protection Strip, which remains without anthropic interventions for years, might indeed lead to a complete recovery of the ant species composition over time, reinforcing their great importance for biodiversity conservation.
Sporotrichosis is a chronic and subacute mycosis causing epidemiological outbreaks involving sick cats and humans in southeastern Brazil. The systemic disease prevails in cats, and in humans, the ...symptoms are restricted to skin in immunocompetent individuals. Under these conditions, the prolonged treatment of animals and cases of recurrence justify the discovery of new treatments for sporotrichosis. This work addresses the antifungal activity of silver salts of Keggin-type heteropolyacid salts (Ag-HPA salts) such as Ag

The history of industry is marked by revolutions, the Fourth Industrial Revolution provides opportunities for sustainability, and means to reduce environmental degradation and social inclusion. This ...article aims to identify which factors impact the sustainability of an organization. The exploratory research was carried out by means of literature review and bibliographic research to achieve the objective of conducting a bibliometric study, identifying the evolution of publications, and the authors that make up this field of knowledge. It is necessary for companies and industries to be introduced to the global changes that Industry 4.0 has introduced in the manufacturing environment, making it possible to develop sustainable processes and products.
Conventional axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) has recently become less radical. The treatment morbidity effects of reduced ALND aggressiveness are unknown. This article investigates the ...prevalence of the main complications of ALND: lymphedema, range-of-motion restriction, and arm paresthesia and pain.
This cross-sectional study included 200 women with invasive breast cancer who underwent breast-conserving surgery (82.5%, n = 165) or mastectomy (17.5%, n = 35) with ALND from 2007 to 2011. Arm perimetry was used to assess lymphedema, defined as a difference >2 cm in the upper arm circumference between the nonsurgical and surgical arms. Range-of-motion restriction was assessed by evaluating the degree of arm abduction. Paresthesia was measured in the inner and proximal arm regions. Arm pain was assessed by directly questioning the patients and defined as either present or absent.
The average (±SD) time between ALND and morbidity evaluation was 35 ± 18 months (range, 7-60 months). The average dissected lymph node number per patient was 14 ± 4 (range, 6-30 lymph nodes). Only 3.5% (n = 7) of the patients presented with lymphedema. Single-incision approaches to breast tumor and ALND (P = 0.04) and the presence of a postoperative seroma (P = 0.02) were associated with lymphedema in univariate analysis. Paresthesia was the most frequent side effect observed (53% of patients, n = 106). This complication was associated with increased age (P < 0.0001) and a larger dissected lymph node number (P = 0.01) in univariate and multivariate analysis. Additionally, 24% (n = 48) of patients had noticeable limited arm abduction. Among the patients, 27.5% (n = 55) experienced sporadic arm pain corresponding to the surgically treated armpit. In multivariate analysis, the pain risk was 1.9-fold higher in patients who underwent ALND corresponding to their dominant arm (95% CI, 1.0-3.7, P = 0.04).
Conventional ALND in breast cancer patients can result in unwanted complications. However, the current lymphedema prevalence is lower than that of the other analyzed side effects.
Most machine learning applications in quantum-chemistry (QC) data sets rely on a single statistical error parameter such as the mean square error (MSE) to evaluate their performance. However, this ...approach has limitations or can even yield incorrect interpretations. Here, we report a systematic investigation of the two components of the MSE, i.e., the bias and variance, using the QM9 data set. To this end, we experiment with three descriptors, namely (i) symmetry functions (SF, with two-body and three-body functions), (ii) many-body tensor representation (MBTR, with two- and three-body terms), and (iii) smooth overlap of atomic positions (SOAP), to evaluate the prediction process’s performance using different numbers of molecules in training samples and the effect of bias and variance on the final MSE. Overall, low sample sizes are related to higher MSE. Moreover, the bias component strongly influences the larger MSEs. Furthermore, there is little agreement among molecules with higher errors (outliers) across different descriptors. However, there is a high prevalence among the outliers intersection set and the convex hull volume of geometric coordinates (VCH). According to the obtained results with the distribution of MSE (and its components bias and variance) and the appearance of outliers, it is suggested to use ensembles of models with a low bias to minimize the MSE, more specifically when using a small number of molecules in the training set.
Testicle tumors are a rare entity among men population, accounting for only 1-1.5% of all can-cers among men. The stromal tumors of the sexual cord correspond just 4% of all testicular cancers. Only ...10% of them are malignant. The major representative of the sex cord-stromal tumors is the Leydig cell tumor, corresponding to 75 to 80% of the total. It has bimodal age incidence, involving children and adults between 30 and 60 years. We report the caso of a 91-year-old man with malignant Leydig cell tumor, presenting increase of the volume of scrotum, local pain and hyperemia. The are few cases in the literature, only 1 with pacient above 85 years old.
In psoriatic arthritis (PsA) almost all qualitative studies have been performed in European populations. This work aimed to evaluate the impact of PsA in Brazilian and French subjects, as well as to ...explore cultural differences in the experience of disease and to recognize domains important for patients living with PsA outside Europe.
A qualitative study was conducted in two university hospitals in Brazil and France; outpatients fulfilling Classification Criteria for PsA participated in individual interviews regarding the impact of PsA; interviews were conducted in the local language. The sample size was defined by saturation; interviews were recorded and transcribed and content analysis was performed.
Fifteen patients were interviewed in Brazil and 13 in France. Mean disease duration was 16.5 ± 12.5 years (range: 8 months to 47 years) and 14.4 ± 8.4 years (range 12 months to 29 years) for Brazilian and French subjects, respectively. A broad impact was perceived: 67 codes emerged from the interviews and were grouped in 41 categories. Although 2/3 of categories were common to both nationalities, some important health domains from the perspective of PsA patients from a non-European background were brought to light including sexual dysfunction, emotional impact of psoriasis and impact of prejudice on social and professional life.
This study highlights the importance of assessing the impact of PsA on a national level, emphasizing the common cross-cultural aspects but also revealing domains of interest for patients with PsA living outside Europe which merit further study.
