In the large-volume limit \(V\to\infty\) with \(V << 1/m_{\pi}^4\) the mass-dependent chiral condensate is predicted to satisfy exact finite-volume scaling laws that fall into three major ...universality classes. We test these analytical predictions with staggered fermions and overlap fermions in gauge field sectors of fixed topological charge \(\nu\).
We confront exact analytical predictions for the finite-volume scaling of the chiral condensate with data from quenched lattice gauge theory simulations. Using staggered fermions in both the ...fundamental and adjoint representations, and gauge groups SU(2) and SU(3), we are able to test simultaneously all of the three chiral universality classes. With overlap fermions we also test the predictions for gauge field sectors of non-zero topological charge. Excellent agreement is found in most cases, and the deviations are understood in the others.
Acute pancreatitis verified at laparotomy occurred in the 37th week in 1 of 4 women who developed excessive hypertriglyceridemia (type V hyperlipoproteinemia) during pregnancy. The ...hypertriglyceridemia was associated with and possibly caused by deficiency of lipoprotein lipase, measured as the NaCl sensitive component of post-heparin lipase activity. A severely fat-restricted diet controlled the hypertriglyceridemia in 1 of the patients, followed during a second pregnancy.
An experimental and theoretical study has been undertaken on the lattice dynamics of 119mSn atoms on substitutional sites in the diamond lattices of the Group IV elements Si, Ge and alpha -Sn. A ...critical review on the applicability and the relevance of various dynamical models for substitutional impurity atoms in a diamond lattice is given. New calculations are presented in the framework of an extension of Mannheim's model to the diamond and zincblende lattices. The calculations are based on the phonon densities-of-states from an adiabatic bond-charge model for the Group IV elements. Unexpected large changes of the impurity-host force constants as compared to the host--host force constants are found for substitutional Sn in Si and Ge, whereas the result from the model for the perfect lattice agree reasonably well with the experimental values for alpha -Sn.31 refs.--AA
