We show that the differences between the Plastic Ball and DIOGENE experiments on sideward flow make it possible to asses independently, within the transport description of collisions, the effect of ...density dependence and momentum dependence of the nucleon optical potential. We estimate that the nuclear compressibility ital K lies between 180 and 235 MeV.
We construct nucleonic microscopic optical potentials by combining the Green's function approach with the coupled-cluster method for 40Ca and 48Ca. For the computation of the ground states of 40Ca ...and 48Ca, we use the coupled-cluster method in the singles-and-doubles approximation, while for the A = ±1 nuclei we use particle-attached and particle-removed equation-of-motion method truncated at two-particle–one-hole and one-particle–two-hole excitations, respectively. Our calculations are based on the chiral nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon interaction NNLOsat, which reproduces the charge radii of 40Ca and 48Ca, and the chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction NNLOopt. In all cases considered here, we observe that the overall form of the neutron scattering cross section is reproduced for both interactions, but the imaginary part of the potential, which reflects the loss of flux in the elastic channel, is negligible. Furthermore, the latter points to neglected many-body correlations that would appear beyond the coupled-cluster truncation level considered in this work. We show that, by artificially increasing the parameter η in the Green's function, practical results can be further improved.

Constraints on the EoS for symmetric matter (equal neutron and proton numbers) at supra-saturation densities have been extracted from energetic collisions of heavy ions. Collisions of ...neutron-deficient and neutron-rich heavy ions now provide initial constraints on the EoS of neutron-rich matter at sub-saturation densities. Comparisons are made to other available constraints.
Methodology is presented for analysis of two-particle azimuthal angle correlation functions obtained in collisions at ultrarelativistic energies. We show that harmonic and di-jet contributions to ...these correlation functions can be reliably decomposed by two techniques to give an accurate measurement of the jet-pair distribution. Results from detailed Monte Carlo simulations are used to demonstrate the efficacy of these techniques in the study of possible modifications to jet topologies in heavy ion reactions.
