EMMPRIN, also known as Basigin or CD147, is a transmembrane glycoprotein member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed basally in cells that regulate physiological processes of the ...cardiovascular, nervous, and immune systems. However, EMMPRIN is also capable of interacting with different proteins, like VEGFR, SMAD4, Integrin, MCT, CyPA, GLUT1, CAIV, Annexin II, Cav-1, CAML, etc., and regulating signaling pathways that stimulate the cell processes of proliferation, apoptosis, metabolism, adhesion, invasion, migration, metastasis, tumor immune response, and angiogenesis processes, which favors the development of different types of cancer. EMMPRIN is the first protein reported that favors cancer development due to its ability to interact with extracellular, intracellular, and membrane proteins. In conclusion, EMMPRIN regulates several proteins associated with the development of tumor processes. Therefore, blocking the expression of EMMPRIN can be a therapeutic target, and the analysis of its expression can be used as an important biomarker in cancer.
Even after rehabilitation, post stroke patients remain disabled. The Post Stroke Checklist (PSC) was developed to highlight unmet needs of community-dwelling stroke patients. The present study set ...out to validate Post Soft Care-App, designed to administer the PSC using smartphones and tablets, in order to monitor unmet needs in chronic patients. Fifty-three patients and fifteen physiotherapists were enrolled. The therapists administered the PSC to patients using the app, and then completed a structured questionnaire on its usability and utility. The Post Soft Care-App highlighted the following unmet needs: increased spasticity (56.6%), reduced independence in activities of daily living (47.2%), reduced mobility (45.3%), absence of secondary prevention (45.3%). Therapists positively evaluated Post Soft Care-App as useful, practical, quick to complete (96.2%), and effective in helping improve communication with patients (75.5%). The Post Soft Care-App can be considered a valid assessment tool for helping therapists to monitor functional outcomes in chronic patients.

In this work we extend the high-order discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element method to inviscid low Mach number flows. The method here presented is designed to improve the accuracy and efficiency ...of the solution at low Mach numbers using both explicit and implicit schemes for the temporal discretization of the compressible Euler equations. The algorithm is based on a classical preconditioning technique that in general entails modifying both the instationary term of the governing equations and the dissipative term of the numerical flux function (full preconditioning approach). In the paper we show that full preconditioning is beneficial for explicit time integration while the implicit scheme turns out to be efficient and accurate using just the modified numerical flux function. Thus the implicit scheme could also be used for time accurate computations. The performance of the method is demonstrated by solving an inviscid flow past a NACA0012 airfoil at different low Mach numbers using various degrees of polynomial approximations. Computations with and without preconditioning are performed on different grid topologies to analyze the influence of the spatial discretization on the accuracy of the DG solutions at low Mach numbers.

This work concerns a numerical estimation of the generalised fractal dimension of six river networks in Southern Italy, extracted from digitised maps on a 1:25,000 scale. The estimation is carried ...out through the method introduced by Pawelzik and Schuster, based on an extension of the correlation integral by Grassberger and Procaccia. We analysed the spectra of the generalised dimensions
D
q
and the multi-fractal spectra
f(α). The results are in agreement with the ones previously obtained through the use of standard box-counting techniques: they indicate that the investigated river networks are multi-fractal structures, with support dimensions ranging between 1.7 and 1.9, and appear not to be plane-filling sets. In the case of the Corace river, the multi-fractal spectrum of the whole river network approaches the envelope of the spectra of substructures corresponding to different hortonian stream orders.
Budd-Chiari syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by obstruction of hepatic venous outflow involving either the hepatic veins or the inferior vena cava. Risk factors include thrombophilia and ...myeloproliferative disorders, and symptoms are often unspecific. We present a case of a 60-year-old woman admitted to our medical unit for ascites and abdominal pain. Although her medical history significant for a mixed connective tissue disease and a mild increase of the transaminases had raised the suspicion of autoimmune hepatitis, the demonstration on computed tomography of the absence of outflow in the terminal tract of the supra-hepatic veins allowed a correct diagnosis. The contribution of radiological imaging is fundamental in the diagnosis of this rare and elusive pathology.
Visceral arterial pseudoaneurysms are uncommon vascular abnormalities affecting renal or splanchnic arteries. They can be complications of chronic pancreatitis, blunt or penetrating abdominal trauma, ...or surgical, endoscopic and interventional radiological procedures. Visceral arterial pseudoaneurysms can be life-threatening because of hemorrhagic shock secondary to rupture and massive bleeding. We report an unusual case of rupture of a pseudoaneurysm of a digiunal artery in the pancreatic duct.
