The cross section for the reaction ep-->e(')ppi(+)pi(-) was measured in the resonance region for 1.4<W<2.1 GeV and 0.5<Q2<1.5 GeV(2)/c(2) using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Laboratory. The data ...show resonant structures not visible in previous experiments. The comparison of our data to a phenomenological prediction using available information on N(*) and Delta states shows an evident discrepancy. A better description of the data is obtained either by a sizable change of the properties of the P13(1720) resonance or by introducing a new baryon state, not reported in published analyses.
An overview of software efforts for the CLAS detector in CEBAF Hall B is given. Although the CLAS collaboration is faced with problems which cannot be compared directly to those at Halls A and C ...there is a certain overlap in software development all three experimental areas can benefit from. Several examples are presented.
New cross sections for the reaction e p -> ep eta are reported for total center of mass energy W = 1.5--1.86 GeV and invariant momentum transfer Q^2 = 0.25--1.5 GeV^2. This large kinematic range ...allows extraction of important new information about response functions, photocouplings, and eta N coupling strengths of baryon resonances. Expanded W coverage shows sharp structure at W \~ 1.7 GeV; this is shown to come from interference between S and P waves and can be interpreted in terms of known resonances. Improved values are derived for the photon coupling amplitude for the S11(1535) resonance.
