As information technologies evolve, it has become necessary to examine the changes which have taken place in the top business scopes for both investors and entrepreneurs. To provide an understanding ...for the trends of the top business scopes in the current market, this article conducts a concurrent text and time series methodology to analyze the stocks in the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ) from 2012 to 2017. There is evidence that artificial intelligence and blockchains gained increasing importance for companies during that period. The authors contend that their findings in this paper question the status quo of promising business scopes for companies in the U.S. market.
The critical roles of integrins in thrombosis have enabled the successful development and clinical use of the first generation of integrin antagonists as represented by abciximab (Reopro), ...eptifibatide (Integrilin), and tirofiban (Aggrastat). These integrin αIIbβ3 antagonists are not only potent antithrombotics but also have significant side effects. In particular, their induction of ligand-induced integrin conformational changes is associated with thrombocytopenia. Increased bleeding risk prevents integrin antagonists from being used at higher doses and in patients at risk for bleeding. To address the ligand-induced conformational changes caused by current integrin antagonists, compounds that minimally induce conformational changes in integrin αIIbβ3 have been developed. Recent studies on the mechanisms of integrin signaling suggest that selectively targeting integrin outside-in signaling mechanisms allows for potent inhibition of thrombosis, while maintaining hemostasis in animal models.
Probabilistic uncertainty analysis quantifies the effect of input random variables on model outputs. It is an integral part of reliability-based design, robust design, and design for Six Sigma. The ...efficiency and accuracy of probabilistic uncertainty analysis is a trade-off issue in engineering applications. In this paper, an efficient and accurate mean-value first order Saddlepoint Approximation (MVFOSA) method is proposed. Similar to the mean-value first order Second Moment (MVFOSM) approach, a performance function is approximated with the first order Taylor expansion at the mean values of random input variables. Instead of simply using the first two moments of the random variables as in MVFOSM, MVFOSA estimates the probability density function and cumulative distribution function of the response by the accurate Saddlepoint Approximation. Because of the use of complete distribution information, MVFOSA is generally more accurate than MVFOSM with the same computational effort. Without the nonlinear transformation from non-normal variables to normal variables as required by the first order reliability method (FORM), MVFOSA is also more accurate than FORM in certain circumstances, especially when the transformation significantly increases the nonlinearity of a performance function. It is also more efficient than FORM because an iterative search process for the so-called Most Probable Point is not required. The features of the proposed method are demonstrated with four numerical examples.

Upon vascular injury, platelets are activated by adhesion to adhesive proteins, such as von Willebrand factor and collagen, or by soluble platelet agonists, such as ADP, thrombin, and thromboxane ...A(2). These adhesive proteins and soluble agonists induce signal transduction via their respective receptors. The various receptor-specific platelet activation signaling pathways converge into common signaling events that stimulate platelet shape change and granule secretion and ultimately induce the "inside-out" signaling process leading to activation of the ligand-binding function of integrin α(IIb)β(3). Ligand binding to integrin α(IIb)β(3) mediates platelet adhesion and aggregation and triggers "outside-in" signaling, resulting in platelet spreading, additional granule secretion, stabilization of platelet adhesion and aggregation, and clot retraction. It has become increasingly evident that agonist-induced platelet activation signals also cross talk with integrin outside-in signals to regulate platelet responses. Platelet activation involves a series of rapid positive feedback loops that greatly amplify initial activation signals and enable robust platelet recruitment and thrombus stabilization. Recent studies have provided novel insight into the molecular mechanisms of these processes.
Reliability is an important element in the performance of hydrokinetic turbines. It is also a driving factor of the system lifetime cost. In this paper, we perform time-dependent reliability analysis ...for the blades of a river-based horizontal-axis hydrokinetic turbine. Based on the stochastic representation of the monthly river velocity and material strength, a limit-state function is established with the classical blade element momentum method. In the limit-state function, a failure is defined as the event when the flapwise bending moment exceeds the allowable moment that corresponds to the ultimate strength of the material. The upcrossing rate method is employed to calculate the time-dependent reliability of the hydrokinetic turbine blade over its design life period. The results indicate that setting a proper cut-out river velocity is important for the reliability of the hydrokinetic turbine blade.

The monitoring of winter wheat Fusarium head blight via rapid and non-destructive measures is important for agricultural production and disease control. Images of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are ...particularly suitable for the monitoring of wheat diseases because they feature high spatial resolution and flexible acquisition time. This study evaluated the potential to monitor Fusarium head blight via UAV hyperspectral imagery. The field site investigated by this study is located in Lujiang County, Anhui Province, China. The hyperspectral UAV images were acquired on 3 and 8 May 2019, when wheat was at the grain filling stage. Several features, including original spectral bands, vegetation indexes, and texture features, were extracted from these hyperspectral images. Based on these extracted features, univariate Fusarium monitoring models were developed, and backward feature selection was applied to filter these features. The backpropagation (BP) neural network was improved by integrating a simulated annealing algorithm in the experiment. A multivariate Fusarium head blight monitoring model was developed using the improved BP neural network. The results showed that bands in the red region provide important information for discriminating between wheat canopies that are either slightly or severely Fusarium-head-blight-infected. The modified chlorophyll absorption reflectance index performed best among all features, with an area under the curve and standard deviation of 1.0 and 0.0, respectively. Five commonly used methods were compared with this improved BP neural network. The results showed that the developed Fusarium head blight monitoring model achieved the highest overall accuracy of 98%. In addition, the difference between the producer accuracy and user accuracy of the improved BP neural network was smallest among all models, indicating that this model achieved better stability. These results demonstrate that hyperspectral images of UAVs can be used to monitor Fusarium head blight in winter wheat.

The interaction of glycoprotein Ib-IX-V with its ligand, von Willebrand factor, is dually controlled by von Willebrand factor conformation and intracellular signal-mediated regulation of glycoprotein Ib-IX-V receptor function that requires the zeta isoform of the 14-3-3 protein family (14-3-3zeta). Glycoprotein Ib-IX-V signaling is mediated by the Src family of protein kinases, phospholipase C, calcium elevation, phosphoinositol 3-kinase, and multiple amplification mechanisms including the nitric oxide-cGMP pathway, the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway, the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif pathway, and ADP and thromboxane A2 pathways.
Progress in understanding the mechanism(s) regulating glycoprotein Ib-IX-V should help develop inhibitors and modifiers that interfere or augment its von Willebrand factor binding function and thus be useful for treating thrombosis and bleeding disorders. Characterization of intracellular molecules and pathways in glycoprotein Ib-IX-V signaling has implications in the development of new agents and for the use of existing drugs that affect glycoprotein Ib-IX-V signaling.
Mass remote sensing data management and processing is currently one of the most important topics. In this study, we introduce ScienceEarth, a cluster-based data processing framework. The aim of ...ScienceEarth is to store, manage, and process large-scale remote sensing data in a cloud-based cluster-computing environment. The platform consists of the following three main parts: ScienceGeoData, ScienceGeoIndex, and ScienceGeoSpark. ScienceGeoData stores and manages remote sensing data. ScienceGeoIndex is an index and query system, a spatial index based on quad-tree and Hilbert curve which is combined for heterogeneous tiled remote sensing data that makes efficient data retrieval in ScienceGeoData. ScienceGeoSpark is an easy-to-use computing framework in which we use Apache Spark as the analytics engine for big remote sensing data processing. The result of tests proves that ScienceEarth can efficiently store, retrieve, and process remote sensing data. The results reveal ScienceEarth has the potential and capabilities of efficient big remote sensing data processing.
