A study was performed on 19 types of oral appliances for snoring/obstructive sleep apnea. The appliances were categorized into two groups, mandibular advancers and tongue advancers. A set of limited ...criteria was developed by which an appliance could be evaluated, and the criteria were weighted. Evaluations were then performed on the appliances, and they were rated according to satisfaction of criteria. The rating table should help a dentist in selecting an appliance that will be accepted by the patient and effective in treating snoring/obstructive sleep apnea.

•Fish skin-based wound dressing systems are promising scaffolds for burns treatment.•The coating of fish skin with graphenic materials inhibits biofilm formation.•The electrostatic ...repulsion of skin and bacteria improves the antibiofilm activity.
Wound dressings based on natural materials, such as fish skin, represent an important strategy for the treatment of burns. Despite their utility, contamination of these natural materials with bacteria (planktonic and biofilm forms) introduces significant risks to patients under treatment. This disadvantage can be overcome by modifying the material’s surface to prevent bacterial deposition through chemical or physical interactions. In this work, functional graphenic materials (FGM) with tunable surface charges were incorporated into tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fish skin as a part of a strategy to control the biofilm adhesion on surfaces. The antibiofilm activity was evaluated against S. aureus and K. pneumoniae due to the biofilm-forming properties of these bacterial strains. FGM-modified tilapia skin samples possess a strong capacity to reduce biofilm formation on the tilapia fish skin with a higher antibiofilm activity against Gram-positive bacteria, compared to Gram-negative bacteria. Negatively charged FGMs were more effective than positively charged FGMs in preventing biofilm formation on the impregnated tilapia skin xenografts: negatively charged Claisen graphene achieved an 88.8% reduction in biofilm formation on the tilapia skin. Overall, this study demonstrates the utility of FGM-impregnated tilapia skins as a treatment for burn wounds due to their ability to modulate bacterial adhesion.

We have studied two-body charmless decays of the B meson into the final states rho(0)rho(0), K(*0)rho(0), K(*0)K(*0), K(*0)K(*0), K(*+)rho(0), K(*+)K(*0), and K(*+)K(*-) using only decay modes with ...charged daughter particles. Using 9.7x10(6) BB pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we place 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions (1.4-14.1)x10(-5), depending on final state and polarization.
The tau decays to six-pion final states have been studied with the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. The measured branching fractions are B(tau(-)-->2pi(-)pi(+)3pi(0)nu(tau)) = ...(2.2+/-0.3+/-0.4)x10(-4) and B(tau(-)-->3pi(-)2pi(+)pi(0)nu(tau)) = (1.7+/-0.2+/-0.2)x10(-4). A search for substructure in these decays shows that they are saturated by intermediate states with eta or omega mesons. We present the first observation of the decay tau(-)-->2pi(-)pi(+)omega(nu)tau and the branching fraction is measured to be (1.2+/-0.2+/-0.1)x10(-4). The measured branching fractions are in good agreement with the isospin expectations but somewhat below the conserved-vector-current predictions.

The CLEO III detector has recently commenced data taking at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR). One important component of this detector is a four layer double-sided silicon tracker with 93% ...solid angle coverage. The design and operation of the CLEO III silicon vertex detector is described in this report. This detector consists of four layers of double-sided silicon wafers covering 93% of the solid angle. ...After initially meeting its signal-to-noise and spatial resolution design goals, the
