Fermilab is involved in the development of new generation high-field accelerator magnets using state-of-the-art Nb sub(3)Sn strands produced using different technologies. Two 1-m long models-mirror ...configuration and dipole magnet-were fabricated recently at Fermilab based on powder-in-tube (PIT) Nb sub(3)Sn strands with small effective filament size. This paper describes the parameters of superconducting strands and cable, the details of magnet design and fabrication procedure, and reports the results of PIT coil testing.

Fermilab is developing and investigating different high-field magnets (HFM) for present and future accelerators. The HFM R&D program focused on the 10-12 T magnets based on Nb/sub 3/Sn superconductor ...and explored both basic magnet technologies for brittle superconductors-wind-and-react and react-and-wind. Magnet design studies in support of LHC upgrades and VLHC were conducted. A series of 1-m long cos-theta dipole models based on the wind-and-react technique was fabricated and tested. Three 1-m long flat racetracks and the common coil dipole model, based on a single-layer coil and react-and-wind technique, were also fabricated and tested. Extensive theoretical and experimental studies of electro-magnetic instabilities in Nb/3/Sn strands, cables and magnets were performed and led to a successful 10 T dipole model. This paper presents the details of Fermilab's HFM program, reports its status and major results, and formulates the next steps for the program.

It was observed during the early part of Run II that dipole corrector currents in the Tevatron were changing over time. Measurement of the roll for dipoles and quadrupoles confirmed that there was a ...slow and systematic movement of the magnets from their ideal position. A simple system using a digital protractor and laptop computer was developed to allow roll measurements of all dipoles and quadrupoles. These measurements showed that many magnets in the Tevatron had rolled more than 1 milli-radian. To aid in magnet alignment a new survey network was built in the Tevatron tunnel. This network is based on the use of free centering laser tracker. During the measurement of the network coordinates for all dipole, quadrupole and corrector magnets were obtained. This paper discusses roll measurement techniques and data, the old and new Tevatron alignment network.
Healthy and tasty: these attributes define edible wild (
Diplotaxis tenuifolia) and salad rocket (
Eruca sativa), for their glucosinolate profile, that was characterised by variation in some key ...components. Ample variability was also detected in other
Diplotaxis, with extremely glucosinolate-rich species, and strongly characterised profiles, revealing likely taxonomic affinities among taxa previously examined by other criteria, and suggesting potentials of exploitation.
Leaf glucosinolates of 42
Diplotaxis and 21
Eruca accessions were studied. Total content ranged from 0.25 to more than 70

wt. The 13 clusters, defined on the basis of glucosinolate composition, belonged to two glucosinolate-rich groups, characterised by the prevalence of a single component, and one low-glucosinolate group, with a profile not dominated by any individual component. A sinigrin-rich cluster (
D. ibicensis,
D. berthautii,
D. ilorcitana,
D. siettiana,
D. tenuisiliqua,
D. brevisiliqua, and
D. virgata) and a gluconapin-rich cluster (
D. catholica,
D.siifolia,
D. virgata, and
D. ollivieri) included all the species previously classified in the
nigra phylogenetic lineage.
D. virgata was confirmed to be a critical taxon, with one accession slightly diverging from the others.
D. siifolia subsp.
vicentina was separated from the others in a glucobrassicin-rich cluster.
D. harra, a rather isolated representative of sub-genus
Hesperidium, clustered together
D. assurgens in a sinalbin-rich cluster. Another well defined cluster was represented by
D. brachycarpa (gluconasturtin). The two sub-species of
D. erucoides were well differentiated by their glucosinolate profile. The low glucosinolate species:
D. tenuifolia,
D. viminea,
D. cretacea,
D. muralis (subgenus
Diplotaxis), and
E. vesicaria, all previously included in the
rapa/oleracea lineage, belonged to seven less defined clusters, mainly differing on the presence/absence or the relative abundance of some components (glucoraphanin, glucolepidin, 4-hydroxy-glucobrassicin, 4-phenylbutyl gls, glucoerucin and neoglucobrassicin). The data support previous taxonomic works. Glucosinolate-rich taxa, with well characterised profiles may be suitable for industrial uses, whereas the variability of edible
D. tenuifolia and
E. vesicaria may represent a basis for breeding horticultural types.
The goal of the Mu2e experiment at Fermilab is to search for charged-lepton flavor violation by looking for neutrino-less muon to electron conversion in the field of the nucleus. The Mu2e ...experimental apparatus utilizes a complex magnetic field in the muon generation and momentum and charge selection process. Precise knowledge of the magnetic field is crucial. It is planned to map the solenoid field with calibrated three-dimensional (3-D) Hall probes up to 10 -5 accuracy. This article describes a new design of a Hall probe calibration system that will be used to calibrate 3-D Hall probes to better than 10 -5 accuracy for the Mu2e solenoid field mapping system.

The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab plans to search for charged-lepton flavor violations by looking for neutrino-less muon to electron conversions in the field of the nucleus. A complex solenoid system ...and precise knowledge of its magnetic field play a major role in the experimental approach Mu2e has chosen. It is essential to map the solenoid field up to 10 -4 accuracy. This article describes the design of the Field Mapping System Mu2e will use to measure the magnetic field. Two different mechanical mapper systems, a survey-based position determination of the in-house calibrated three-dimensional Hall probes, a motion control system, and a data acquisition and readout system are presented.
The seed oils of three accessions of Nigella sativa and N. damascena, sown on different dates, were obtained by Likens-Nickerson hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC/MS. The main components of N. ...sativa oil were p-cymene (33.8 %) and thymol (26.8 %), with only small amounts of thymoquinone (3.8 %). N. damascena oil was characterized by almost 100% sesquiterpenes, of which beta-elemene (73.2 %) represented about three-quarters of the total amount.
