Spinal dysraphisms are lesions that can be identified at ultrasound screening examination from the second trimester of pregnancy, the majority being localized in the lumbosacral region. We present ...the case of prenatal ultrasound diagnosis of a 18 weeks fetus with cervical open dysraphism, a rare localization of open spinal dysraphisms. The alteration of cerebral normal anatomy was first identified; further examination showed the spinal defect with cervical location associated with a posterior cystic mass, the meningomyelocele.
Neural tube defects (NTD) are a heterogeneous group of malformations resulting from failure of normal neural tube closure before the fourth and fifth week of embryologic development. The three most ...common forms of NTD are: anencephaly, encephalocele and spinal dysraphism. Less common forms of neural tube defects include iniencephaly, amniotic bands and other types of spinal abnormalities including scoliosis/cyphosis, sacral agenesis, limb-body wall complex, diastematomyelia. The most part of these abnormalities are accessible to the ultrasound diagnosis in the midtrimester and sometimes even in the late first trimester of the pregnancy. This kind of abnormalities can occur in isolation or in association with other anomalies, which can also be characterized with ultrasound. In this pictorial essay the ultrasonographic aspects of the NTD will be discussed.
A very large number of the adult population suffers from hypertension, a condition that does not always show symptoms making patients unaware that they are suffering from this disease. Even patients ...with diagnosed hypertension do not check their blood pressure regularly, which is a major health problem. This paper presents the development and testing process for a wearable (bracelet) devices for monitoring people with heart problems. This device extends the functionality of common activity trackers by measuring the ECG and determining if the person who wears it has fallen.
In this paper we report a scoring system to predict whether a patient intoxicated with cardiotoxic substances will require vasopressor inotropic support (VIS) during hospitalization. This new ...methodology is based on a statistics study that analyzes several characteristics of the patient upon admission and identifies those that are correlated with VIS necessity. The selected items are then used in a multi-criteria analysis to compute a score for each patient, regarding his risks to require VIS.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the epidemiology and treatment of children and adolescents with acute metformin poisoning admitted in the Toxicology Department - "Grigore Alexandrescu" Children ...Emergency Hospital Bucharest. Metformin poisoning represents a diagnosis and treatment challenge in children and adolescents as severe complications can occur rapidly due to metabolic acidosis and low cellular energy levels. The paper proposes some useful hints about the moment when the haemodialysis treatment should impose because that decision that is not closely related to the doctor experience.
