One of the core questions of quantum physics is how to reconcile the unitary evolution of quantum states, which is information-preserving and time-reversible, with evolution following the second law ...of thermodynamics, which, in general, is neither. The resolution to this paradox is to recognize that global unitary evolution of a multi-partite quantum state causes the state of local subsystems to evolve towards maximum-entropy states. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate this effect in linear quantum optics by simultaneously showing the convergence of local quantum states to a generalized Gibbs ensemble constituting a maximum-entropy state under precisely controlled conditions, while introducing an efficient certification method to demonstrate that the state retains global purity. Our quantum states are manipulated by a programmable integrated quantum photonic processor, which simulates arbitrary non-interacting Hamiltonians, demonstrating the universality of this phenomenon. Our results show the potential of photonic devices for quantum simulations involving non-Gaussian states.
Nowadays, large benign lateral spreading lesions (LSLs) and sessile polyps in the colorectum are mostly resected by endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). A major drawback of EMR is the polyp recurrence ...rate of up to 20%. Snare tip soft coagulation (STSC) is considered an effective technique to reduce recurrence rates. However, clinical trials on STSC have mainly been conducted in expert referral centers. In these studies, polyp recurrence was assessed optically, and additional adjunctive techniques were excluded. In the current trial, we will evaluate the efficacy and safety of STSC in daily practice, by allowing adjunctive techniques during EMR and the use of both optical and histological polyp recurrence to assess recurrences during follow-up.
The RESPECT study is a multicenter, parallel-group, international single blinded randomized controlled superiority trial performed in the Netherlands and Germany. A total of 306 patients undergoing piecemeal EMR for LSLs or sessile colorectal polyps sized 20-60 mm will be randomized during the procedure after endoscopic complete polyp resection to the intervention or control group. Post-EMR defects allocated to the intervention group will be treated with thermal ablation with STSC of the entire resection margin. Primary outcome will be polyp recurrence by optical and histological confirmation at the first surveillance colonoscopy after 6 months. Secondary outcomes include technical success and complication rates.

Moreover, endoscopists will be allowed to use adjunctive techniques to remove remaining adenomatous tissue during the procedure. Finally, adenomatous polyp recurrence during follow-up will be defined by histologic identification.

Abstract
Background and Aims
The COVID-19 risk and disease course in inflammatory bowel disease IBD patients remains uncertain. Therefore, we aimed to assess the clinical presentation, disease ...course, and outcomes of COVID-19 in IBD patients. Second, we determined COVID-19 incidences in IBD patients and compared this with the general population.
Methods
We conducted a multicentre, nationwide IBD cohort study in The Netherlands and identified patients with COVID-19. First, we assessed the COVID-19 disease course and outcomes. Second, we compared COVID-19 incidences between our IBD study cohort and the general Dutch population.
Results
We established an IBD cohort of 34 763 patients. COVID-19 was diagnosed in 100/34 763 patients 0.29%; 20/100 of these patients 20% had severe COVID-19 defined as admission to the intensive care unit, mechanical ventilation, and/or death. Hospitalisation occurred in 59/100 59.0% patients and 13/100 13.0% died. All patients who died had comorbidities and all but one were ≥65 years old. In line, we identified ≥1 comorbidity as an independent risk factor for hospitalisation (odds ratio OR 4.20, 95% confidence interval CI 1.58–11.17,; p = 0.004). Incidences of COVID-19 between the IBD study cohort and the general population were comparable (287.6 95% CI 236.6–349.7 versus 333.0 95% CI 329.3–336.7 per 100000 patients, respectively; p = 0.15).
Conclusions
Of 100 cases with IBD and COVID-19, 20% developed severe COVID-19, 59% were hospitalised and 13% died. A comparable COVID-19 risk was found between the IBD cohort 100/34 763 = 0.29% and the general Dutch population. The presence of ≥1 comorbidities was an independent risk factor for hospitalisation due to COVID-19.

The Münster Arteriosclerosis Study (MAS) is a prospective, longitudinal epidemiological study on an industrial population in Westfalia aimed to establishing clinical and laboratory data with possible ...relationship to cardiovascular events. The data presented here describe the baseline measurements of fibrinogen, factor VIIc and factor VIIIc from the recruitment of 2880 male and 1306 female persons and their relationship to age, gender, bodyweight, smoking, alcohol, pill-using and menopause. The correlations were made by means of a multiple regression analysis. We found an increase of those coagulation factors with age, a correlation of F VII and fibrinogen with body-weight index and of fibrinogen with cigarette smoking. No correlation was found for alcohol consumption. F VIII and F VII were significantly higher after onset of menopause and F VII and fibrinogen in women using the pill.

In this paper, we report the demonstration of the largest universal quantum photonic processor to date: a low-loss 12-mode fully tunable linear interferometer with all-to-all mode coupling based on stoichiometric silicon nitride waveguides.
Hybrid integrated semiconductor laser sources offering extremely narrow spectral linewidth, as well as compatibility for embedding into integrated photonic circuits, are of high importance for a wide ...range of applications. We present an overview on our recently developed hybrid-integrated diode lasers with feedback from low-loss silicon nitride (Si 3 N 4 in SiO 2 ) circuits, to provide sub-100-Hz-level intrinsic linewidths, up to 120 nm spectral coverage around a 1.55 μ m wavelength, and an output power above 100 mW. We show dual-wavelength operation, dual-gain operation, laser frequency comb generation, and present work towards realizing a visible-light hybrid integrated diode laser.
Here, we present the development and characterization of the novel PhenTAA macrocycle as well as a series of Ni(R2PhenTAA)n complexes featuring two sites for ligand-centered redox-activity. These ...differ in the substituent R (R = H, Me, or Ph) and overall charge of the complex n (n = −2, −1, 0, +1, or +2). Electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques (CV, UV/vis–SEC, X-band EPR) reveal that all redox events of the Ni(R2PhenTAA) complexes are ligand-based, with accessible ligand charges of −2, −1, 0, +1, and +2. The o-phenylenediamide (OPD) group functions as the electron donor, while the imine moieties act as electron acceptors. The flanking o-aminobenzaldimine groups delocalize spin density in both the oxidized and reduced ligand states. The reduced complexes have different stabilities depending on the substituent R. For R = H, dimerization occurs upon reduction, whereas for R = Me/Ph, the reduced imine groups are stabilized. This also gives electrochemical access to a Ni(R2PhenTAA)2– species. DFT and TD–DFT calculations corroborate these findings and further illustrate the unique donor–acceptor properties of the respective OPD and imine moieties. The novel Ni(R2PhenTAA) complexes exhibit up to five different ligand-based oxidation states and are electrochemically stable in a range from −2.4 to +1.8 V for the Me/Ph complexes (vs Fc/Fc+).
