It addresses how they mystified one another about what was wanted, who wanted it, and at whose expense, in the prelude to, onset of, and chronicity of the sexual relationships. In so doing, an expanded conception is offered of mystification as an emergent and ongoing quality of an interpersonal field, rather than a singular act performed by one person on another. Such a conception allows for a more nuanced and contextualized understanding of how child sexual trauma begins, continues, and remains secret for so long
During the early days of the campaign and Trump administration, popular opinion suggested that the threat to LGBTQ civil rights achievements posed by a Trump administration would be minimal, given ...Trump's lack of explicit anti-LGBTQ animus. This optimism has been tested. In this article, I argue that, in fact, the potential destructive effect on LGBTQ rights is real but that detecting it requires an appreciation for unconscious projection and distortion. Donald Trump may at times espouse LGBTQ rights with his words, but through his deeds and associations with social conservative groups-who contain and act out his disavowed anti-LGBTQ hostility-he communicates an unconscious message of rejection and hate. Such mystification mirrors what LGBTQ individuals have often encountered in their upbringings and poses insidious threats to our basic security and self-worth. Psychoanalysts are well-positioned for decoding such mixed messages, and it behooves us as a field to bring our skills to bear on the effects of these messages, particularly on LGBTQ youth.
ABSTRACT Given the gap in the literature regarding the peak of oxygen consumption (VO2peak) for adolescents of both sexes, this study aimed to propose an equation to predict the VO2peak in healthy ...adolescents using the Modified Shuttle Test (MST). This is a cross-sectional study with 84 healthy adolescents between 12 and 18 years old, female and male. The MST is an external paced test, in which the speed increases at each minute. Two MST were performed with at least 30 minutes of rest between them. The test with the longest walked distance was considered for analysis. VO2 was directly monitored by an open circuit spirometry. Mean age was 14.67±1.82 and the walked distance was 864.86±263.48m. Variables included in the prediction equation were walked distance and sex, explaining the VO2peak variability of 53% during MST performance. The prediction equation for VO2peak with the MST was: predicted VO2peak=18.274+(0.18×Distance Walked, meters)+(7.733×Sex); R2=0.53 and p<0.0001 (sex: 0 for girls, 1 for boys). This MST equation, proposed to predict VO2peak in healthy adolescents of both sexes, can be used as a reference to assess exercise capacity in healthy adolescents and to investigate cardiopulmonary function in adolescents with reduced functional capacity.
RESUMEN Dada una laguna en la literatura con respecto a la ecuación para predecir el consumo máximo de oxígeno (VO2) en adolescentes de ambos sexos, el objetivo de este estudio es proponer una ecuación para predecir el VO2máximo en adolescentes sanos usando el shuttle test modificado (MST). Se trata de un estudio transversal, realizado con 84 adolescentes sanos con edades entre 12 y 18 años, de ambos sexos. El MST es una prueba de campo dictada por una señal sonora que indica el aumento de velocidad cada minuto. Se realizaron dos MST con al menos 30 minutos de descanso entre ellos. Para el análisis se consideró la prueba con mayor distancia recorrida. El monitoreo del VO2 fue realizado directamente por espirometría de circuito abierto. La edad media fue de 14,67±1,82 años; y la distancia recorrida, de 864,86±263,48m. Las variables incluidas en la ecuación de predicción fueron la distancia recorrida y el sexo, que explicaron el 53% de la variabilidad del VO2máximo durante la realización del MST. La ecuación de referencia para el VO2máximo predicho con el MST fue VO2máximo previsto=18,274+(0,18×Distancia recorrida, en metros)+(7,733×Sexo); R2=0,53 y p<0,0001 (sexo: 0 para chicas, 1 para chicos). La ecuación MST propuesta para predecir el VO2máximo en adolescentes sanos de ambos sexos puede utilizarse como una referencia para evaluar la capacidad de ejercicio en adolescentes sanos y para investigar la función cardiopulmonar en adolescentes con capacidad funcional reducida.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar ganhos genéticos obtidos por diferentes índices de seleção aplicados a múltiplos caracteres agronômicos de sorgo-sacarino (Sorghum bicolor). Foram ...feitas avaliações de 189 progênies F5 e sete testemunhas, em delineamento de blocos incompletos, com três repetições. Mensuraram-se os caracteres produtividade de matéria verde, teor de sólidos solúveis totais, extração de caldo, teor de sacarose no caldo e sólidos solúveis totais por hectare. Analisaram-se os índices de soma de postos de Mulamba e Mock (ou índice de ranks), da soma dos valores padronizados (ou índice Z), índice padronizado pela média e índice padronizado pela média modificado. As correlações e as percentagens de coincidência na seleção das progênies foram elevadas entre o índice Z, o índice padronizado pela média e o índice padronizado pela média modificado. Entre os índices de seleção testados, o de soma de postos de Mulamba e Mock foi o menos eficiente. A seleção simultânea de progênies de sorgo-sacarino permite ganhos genéticos expressivos para todos os caracteres mensurados.
Aim The aim of this research was to evaluate the effects of bone marrow mononuclear cell (BMC) transplantation in rats with toxic acute liver damage induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄). Methods ...Cells from male Wistar rats were obtained using Ficoll density gradient and 0.2 ml (1 × 10⁶ cells) were injected into the portal vein of female rats (n = 15) 24 h after damage. Sham group (n = 15) was performed injecting only vehicle in CCl₄-treated animals. Survival, liver histology, number of mitosis and apoptosis, and identification of stained donor cells were observed 72 h after damage. ALT levels were measured at 0 h, 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h after injury. Results Donor cells could be detected in recipient rats' livers by fluorescence staining and Sry PCR. The treated group revealed a significant improvement in survival rate after 72 h (p = 0.003). There was also a significant increase in the number of mitotic events in treated livers (p = 0.029). This result was confirmed using an in vitro cell proliferation assay in isolated hepatocytes treated with conditioned medium from BMC. ALT was reduced in the treated group after 72 h (p = 0.034). Conclusions Results indicate that BMC transplantation has potential as a new therapeutic option for acute liver disease and suggest that these cells may contribute to hepatic recovery through release of mitotic cytokines.
This paper examines whether religion and spirituality (R/S) should be incorporated into treatment for patients with serious mental illness. This question merits attention, especially in light of the ...strong presence of R/S in the United States and, in particular, among members of ethnic minorities. While the literature is somewhat mixed, prior research supports the view that incorporating adaptive R/S elements into treatment for patients with serious mental illness is beneficial, particularly for patients who do not exhibit severe psychotic symptoms. Drawing from our experiences in developing a family-focused Culturally-Informed Therapy for Schizophrenia (CIT-S), we will also highlight the importance of addressing spiritual issues within minority populations. In the second half of this paper, we will present several case illustrations of how R/S issues were used in CIT-S to help patients make sense of adverse situations and obtain much-needed support and coping resources outside the treatment room. Findings from this study indicate that religion and spirituality can often be incorporated into treatment in a way that coalesces with patients’ values and enhances treatment gains. Future research should investigate how therapists’ own R/S values interact with those of their clients, and whether congruency in R/S values has any impact on treatment efficacy.
Abstract Introduction Acute liver failure (ALF) is characterized by a rapid loss of hepatic function, with high mortality. Acetaminophen (APAP) intoxication and viral hepatitis are common causes of ...ALF. Several studies have shown the capacity of adult bone marrow cells to differentiate in hepatocytes, suggesting their use for treating ALF. Aim In the present study, we tested the use of adult derived mononuclear bone marrow fraction to improve the survival of Wistar rats with APAP-induced ALF. Methods Forty-eight female Wistar rats pre-induced with phenobarbital were given APAP in a single dose of 1 g/kg via intraperitoneal injection. Bone marrow mononuclear cells were purified from male rats using FICOLL gradient and injected through the portal vein in a volume of 0.2 mL containing 1 × 106 cells stained with DAPI. Treatment was administered 24 h after APAP injection. The sham group ( n = 24), received 0.2 mL of saline through the portal vein 24 h after APAP administration. Survival, liver histology and ALT levels were observed. Results Survival 72 h post-APAP administration was 33% in the sham group and 70.8% in the group receiving bone marrow cells. Liver histology in treated animals showed less intense necrosis and the presence of DAPI-positive cells. Conclusions We have shown that bone marrow derived cells are capable of significantly increasing the survival rate of APAP-induced ALF in 37.5% (95% CI, 27.8–40.3%).

Case examples of CIT‐S with participating families are provided, along with a discussion of interesting and challenging cultural issues that we have encountered during the pilot phase of this treatment study

Empós tais considerações, nos concentramos abordar a situação do empresário individual no Brasil e a criação de uma nova espécie societária que garante a limitação da responsabilidade do empresário individual, nos moldes similares à experiência portuguesa.
The scope of this essay is to analyze aspects of individual limited liability company in the Brazilian legal system, which raises the issue of the requirement of minimum capital contribution to the ...company’s constitution. Therefore, we seek to expose initially the historical responsibility of the individual entrepreneur, and then the current context of Portuguese single shareholder private companies. After these considerations, we focus on addressing the situation of the individual entrepreneur in Brazil and the creation of a new species of corporation that guarantees the limitation of liability to the individual entrepreneur in a manner similar to the Portuguese experience.
